What is the difference between the Dolphins and Jets?

On Defense:
Secondary:
Each teams have great talent on defense but NY Jets are better forcing turnovers. Miami Dolphins are suffering with such situation and I assume it's going to upgrade int stats this season, but Green Gang has a big edge here.
Linebackers:
When Miami cut Crowder, Dolphins lost some Defense IQ but won on potential with AJ Edds, Marvin Mitchell and Kevin Burnett. If Mike Nolan can get the best of these guys there's a little advantage at ILB compared to Jets. At OLB it's pretty close but again, Dolphins have great talent and could be considered a step forward here. The greatest weakness of the Dolphins since Sparano arrived was covering man to man big TEs. This year such situation might change.
D-line:
Both fronts look strong and hard for any run-offense, but the main factor is depth. Miami has a great defensive line that could survive some injuries during the season. I can't say for sure the same on Jets.

On Offense:
Running backs:

With no more Ronnie & Ricky on backfield, Miami lose a lot of running power. The addition of Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas change the style of running attack, but as Bush is too raw and Thomas is too young, none of them have the strength to drill on solid defenses at red zone. Jets are solid on their running corpses, have a big lead over Dolphins on RB.
Wide receivers:

Both teams have big name receivers, Brandon Marshall is the biggest star of Miami's roster while Plaxico Burress & Santonio Holmes lead NY. Mental issues concern on Marshall, while coming from jail Burress won't be full recovered, but that could be more than enough for Sanchez. Dolphins own a great repertory of receivers with Davone Bess, Brain Hartline & speeder Clyde Gates. There's no obvious lead so I declare a tie on receivers.
Tight ends:
Antony Fasano doesn't bring what Dustin Keller represents for Jets. No question, advantage Jets.
O-line:
Big part of the payroll of both teams is invested on big protectors of the passer. But Miami have struggled adjusting and making severe experiments. Jets have a solid unit so they have a lead here.
Quarterback:
Individually it's fair to say that Chad Henne has the arm to throw longer passes but Mark Sanchez has matured better. The key factor is trust.
Rex Ryan have trusted on Sanchez since day one and have pushed the kid to lead his team no matter what, including 4th quarter returns, playoff, MNF, etc.
Tony Sparano was an unexperienced Head Coach and never gave such confidence to young passer Henne, always asking him to focus on avoiding ints. This has impacted wrong on Chad who under a new offensive coordinator and with a bigger leadership role, looks as a revamped version of himself on his contract year.
My two cents go for Henne.

Special teams
This is the hardest part to predict of any pre-season squad, but both teams look promising here with a tie in both units.

OVERALL
Both teams have ferocious 4-3 defenses, young QB out of competition, great receivers and a run-first approach of offense. So the biggest difference is red zone efficiency.

The only got damn difference between the teams is that one fan base believes and expects their team to win and the other fan base waits and expects bad things to happen. Talent wise both teams are dead even.

I know a lot of Dolphin fans like to think this way, but it really isn't true. The Dolphins do have some talented players, but it's not even close to being dead even. There's a reason why the Jets are one of the favorites to win the Superbowl at 8-1, and the Dolphins are sitting at 40-1. Sorry to all the over-the-top Fish fans out there, but I have to break it to you ... the Jets aren't overrated, and they don't suck. They're one of the better teams in the league.

These guys know what they're doing, and teams with "dead even" talent would never sit this far apart on the board. I gaurantee you, if the jets were sitting at 40-1 right now there would be HUGE money coming in on them, and if the Dolphins were sitting at 8-1 there's not a person in the world who would take the bet.

The Jets are right there, right now ... and the Dolphins are still climbing the mountain.

Revis. The ability to shutdown one receiver and allow increased blitzing cannot be under-valued.

Second, their receiving core is going to be sick! Holmes, Burress (who looks like he was never out of football), and Derrick Mason.

The good thing is they still have Sanchez to limit them...

The Jets are *******.

haha...somehow I have never seen that video before...I love it....not as much as the micone dolphins song, that is the perfect song....but this was pretty good and will still make it on my ipod. thanks bro

I dont think anyone can really tell.

We saw the new offense the other night. well, its a helluva lot better than what we were doing. So I dont think we really can make comparisons. I do know that sanchez throws a much better slant pass than chad.

Our defense last year had twenty + dropped INT's. I dont see that happening again. I think this defense will kick some butt. It will be more coverage though than sack driven IMO. But what the hell do I know? We simply have to make bigger plays.

The difference to me is not between the two teams, but more the diff between this year and last years dolphins team. We killed ourselves on offense due to bad coaching and gameplanning (roll dice). We have found tgeh right players to spread this offense out. The matchups will be different. The margin of playoff and not is really not that far off since we made the neccessary changes this offense needs. The Jets really have stood still. We have not(for the better). That is all i can tell at this point.

And we also saw that we are still unable to hit the long ball. Unless Henne can start hitting the deep receivers, having speedsters like Gates won't matter and our new offense will be limited to short to mid range passes.

Uhhh...typo...or you don't know what the **** you are talking about...

The difference is...

As Dolphin fans we keep making Jet threads and Jet fans don't think twice about us.

I guess you haven't visited Jets boards very often... They talk about the "Dolphags" about as much. Hell there's a thread on JN about the L.Johnson signing lmao.

Last year? It's pretty simple. The Jets were outstanding at running the ball. They had a very good OL. We were pretty bad on both counts. That puts too much on the young QB to make plays, especially when you're playing from behind. For all the talk about the Dolphin defense being "top 6", that's purely rethorical. We allowed about 20 points per game. The Jets defense was much better than that.

This year? I'd like to think the Jets running game, OL and defense will all be a little worse, as they've lost bits and pieces here and there and have some aging players. The Dolphins OL and running game, however, are a big question mark again this year. A lot rides on Bush's shoulders. But our defense could take a big step forward as the young players we have mature.

I believe this year it will fall more on the QBs to set these two teams apart. It will depend on who makes the most progress this year, Sanchez or Henne. If you look at it rationally and impartially, getting past the "Sanchez just wins" and "Henne sucks" madness, it's too close to call.

Still, I'll give the Jets the edge because of OL and running game.

The difference is...

As Dolphin fans we keep making Jet threads and Jet fans don't think twice about us.

OH NO, believe me, they think about us plenty..unless you have not talked or seen a Jets fan in a while, you can be sure a Jets fan thinks about the Dolphins the moment they think football and Jets. We will always be on a Jets fans mind...trust me.

As was proved when we won the division a few years ago.. any team is one injury away from being an also ran. personally I can see Brady running for his life this year.

why do you see this? the oline is intact from last year with the exception of Stephen Neal, who missed the second half of 2010 anyway. the oline also got younger and more athletic with the addition of Nate Solder who's looked good and Marcus Cannon has been getting healthier and could possibly make it off the PUP list before the season begins.

Miami will be better this year not only player wise but with an improved offensive OC and a new ability to strike quickly. Jets had that ability over us in the past. We will suprise some people this year and more so will suprise alot of our own fans.

I'll bet if given the choice between Henne and Sanchez, 31 teams would take Sanchez over Henne, hell maybe even all 32.
