It is not silly at all. If no major changes were made to the Dolphins roster from 08 to 10 and they went from winning 1 game to 11 games to 7 games, I would say that yes, they were a bad team. In 07 when the Dolphins only had 1 win the starting qbs were Trent Green (5 games), Cleo Lemon (7 games), and John Beck (4 games) The leading receiver for the team was Marty Booker. Ronnie Brown only started 7 games and Ricky only played in 1 game. That is a very different roster from 07 to 08. In 09 we lost Pennington after week 3. My point is, major key players changed from year to year which made the win / loss record change like it did. The Dolphins are a good team that needs more consistent QB play. If we had a healthy Pennington in 08, 09, 10. The Dolphins are easily a 10 win team each year. They were not because they did not have consistent qb play, not becasue they are / were a bad team.
The Bengals on the other hand have been nothing but average / bad for a very long time. From 09 to 10 it could be argued that the Bengals upgraded their roster, and still only won 4 games. In 09 the Bengals only beat 1 team (outside their own division) with a winning record.
You can think that it was some great accomplishment for the Jets to beat them, but they were bad! They were the weakest team in the playoffs, AFC or NFC.
First let me say that it was the correct call, and I believe it is so clear that had it been ruled an incomplete pass, it would have easily been overturned.
In regards to bad calls, I strongly disagree. Sometimes the Refs bad calls cost the deserving winner the game. If that happens, you can't just say, well yeah it was a bad call, but the better team won becasue they made the plays they needed to earlier in the game. No! They won the game becasue the Ref blew it. (See Miami vs Pitt) I look at the game in reality. Sure I enjoy a win no matter how it came to pass, but the reality is sometimes you win because of lucky breaks and bad calls. It is just funny to me when a team / fans beats their chest over those kinds of wins.
I think it would have been a 53 or 54 yard attempt, and he was not that far off on a 57 earlier in the game. He has a career long of 57, and made a 54 yard field goal in week 15 against Cincy. I agree that he has always choked in the playoffs, and that kind of proves my point that the Jets were fortunate to face them.
I'm glad you finally said that. If you see that as reality, why can't you see the Jets run to the AFCC games in reality?
Wrong. How you get to the AFCC game the last 2 years makes you elite or fortunate / lucky. Elite teams only change in a hurry if the nucleus changes, or a major injury to a key player happens. If the Jets go 6-10 without any major injuries, it would just prove that they were never elite.
Had the Jets faced Bal instead of a bad Cincy team in 09, they also would have been humiliated.
Wait a minute....are you saying that the Dolphins were fortunate / lucky that Holmes dropped that pass? Are you saying that the Dolphins would not have won had that not happened? Are you saying that the Jets were better and should have won?
How do I reply to that nyjunc? I think it goes something like, the dolphins were the better team. Vontea Davis was screaming loudly at him which had everything to do with him dropping it. The great teams get those kind of breaks and....I can't remember the rest.
