What REDSKIN fans are saying about Sage

The redskins did not do a smart move here. The Dolphins certainly did. Sage was a 4th round talent that we got a year later for a 7th round pick. And when that happens its usually because the guy ends up sucking or not being impressive, but thats not the case with Sage. The bottom line with Spurrier, is when Spurrier got there and Danny told him to draft Patrick Ramsey, Spurrier KNEW that Sage was going to be the last one standing without a chair when it all came down to it. It didn't matter how well Sage did in preseason or in training camp.

I'm not a Sage homer but he definitely deserved a roster spot over Danny Woeful. Maybe not over Shane Matthews because Matthews is the only one on the roster with starting experience...so its really hard to compare Matthews and Rosenfels. Since when is Steve Spurrier an "expert" on QBs??? Yeah, Shane Matthews, Danny Woeful, Jesse Palmer, and Doug Johnson...WHOA BOY now THEMS are some DAMN GOOD QBs!!!

Sheesh...of those 4 two that have probably the better prospects are the two that Spurrier hated, Palmer and Johnson.

This is just obvious blatant Spurrier right here...keepin his own and gettin rid of the leftovers. I'm surprised he didn't make a huge push with Danny to grab Clinton Portis and trade Stephen Davis somewhere else. He's already at odds with standout 1st round pick Rod Gardner and I'm sure Rod will be gone and replaced with a Spurrier-ite within a year or two.

One thing to really watch for, is Spurrier trying to pull off a trade next year that will send Patrick Ramsey and a 1st or 2nd round pick to some team in order to draft Rex Grossman. I'm sure Spurrier likes his own in this case just as he's shown with Woeful and Matthews, and in this case even a blind monkey with alzheimers could see that Rex has more talent than both Woeful and Matthews combined. And I'm sure Rex would not mind playing for his old coach with a bunch of ex-gators.

How much ya wanna bet Spurrier's makin constant phone calls to Mike Shanahan right now offering Stephen Davis for Clinton Portis straight up.

Yea CK..I can't believe he has problems with Rod, but he has and Rod their best receiver IMO..and he will prove it again and again..like he did in his rookie campaign..Steve's a bit much..There's some good talent on the Skins..hope he doesn't hurt them too much.

If Spurrier was offering that(which you have no idea) he would be a fool due to experience and cap hit for Davis.

Shanahan would run all the way to the AFC title with that deal. Davis is a top-5 back and Portis is a small rookie who hasn't done anything yet.

why would Spurrier want Portis so bad?....he's an ex-cane not a gator.;)

Oh yeah my bad. I kept confusing Portis with Graham the Florida RB.

But still I wouldn't be surprised if Spurrier tried to swing a deal next year Ramsey and a 1st for Rex Grossman who he'd probably start immediately (and since the system is the fun'n'gun he'd arguable be the most ready to start of any rookie since...well...since ever)

Spurrier's just an oddball. I mean he may or may not succeed but I don't remember a coach in a long time who will just brazenly go his own way, and unabashedly put his own mark on any football team at the expense of talent.

Anyone who thinks Sage Rosenfels was kicked off that team because he was the least talented quarterback, is a bit misguided.

You know why I think Spurrier is an expert on QBs?? Because he won the Heisman Trophy and played QB at the NFL level. Then he developed a fast, almost unstoppable offense on the college level.

It's not that Spurrier doesn't know QBs. He just likes "his type" of QBs.

Also, I don't see Spurrier making a lot of phone calls regarding trades and such. Snyder, Joe Mendes, and Vinny Cerato make those kinds of decisions. This is Snyder's team. Spurrier will certainly make his mark and be the coach and stuff. But if those three guys want a player on the team, that player is gonna be on the team.

Spurrier developed a system that took advantage of inferior college players. It will tank in the NFL if he thinks he can take inferior players and dominate NFL caliber players. If you're tryin to say he knows QBs enough to know which ones are good on an NFL level, you're crazy. Sage Rosenfels over Danny Woeful any day of the week twice on sunday.

Spurrier knows Matthews and Wuerffel, and he knows they won a lot of games with his offensive system on the college level. He doesn't know Sage. He has no prior experience with Sage. He was still hesitant about making the trade though. He feels more comfortable with his ex-Gators in his system because they have proven they can win in that system, though not on the NFL level yet.

He kept Matthews and Wuerrful for one reason, they both already know his system!!!! Rosenfels doesn't, and even though he is more talented, Matthews and Wuerrful have a lot of experience with his style!!!!
