What was the most disapointing loss in Dolphin history?

I'm surprised this thread made it to post #95 before someone mentioned the loss in the season-opening "scrimmage" against Houston. That was the date that the Dolphins' organization went into the death spiral that led to our worst season since the George Wilson era.

The Denver playoff game example does not prove anything - we were without Jason Taylor and Tim Bowens. If we had them, different game entirely (not saying we would have won, just different).

No. 1 would be '74 playoff game with Oakland.

No. 2 for me would be Super Bowl XVII. Thought they had what it took to win.
The D wearing down surprised me.

No. 3 would be Super Bowl XIX. I know the Niners were tough, but again I thought Miami had what it took.

No. 4 would be the '85 AFC Championship game against the Pats.

No. 5 for me would be San Diego but in the '94 season.

No. 6 would be the '81 SD game.

Any team that played Chicago that day was going to get slaughtered so maybe you are lucky you got upset by NE?

You can't say that with absolute certainty, Miami was already in the Bears head with the beating we put on them on Monday night, they might not have played the same, also some teams match up differently with some teams than others do.

Perhaps the Bears great defense was just not built to contain the passing attack of Miami that year.

The best team in history went 17-0.

No Miami '72 was not the best, Heck their '73 team was better. Chi '85, SF '84 & '89, Pitt '78 were all better teams.

They were there for the jax playoff game right? you didn't lose 20-17, you lost 38-3.

Prove it....

You think had Miami beaten NE in 1985 they would have beaten the Bears in the SB? The bears wanted the dolphins so bad, I think it may have been worse than 46-10 which the Pats lost by. In the reg seasonanything can happene especially on home in front of a grea mon Night crowd but in the SB you would have been blown out worse than the year before. You barerly beat 8-8 Cle int he div rd then lost to a team you hadn't lost to at home since the 70s and you think you would have beaten the bears again?

Only one team was perfect, you can have your opinion but you can't prove it.

No one can dispute perfection 17-0.

In the Bears head? You beat them once at home on a mon night. You weren't in their heads, there is NO doubt they would have easily beat you in New Orleans.

Being that I'm "young" I only remember so many games. But the game that killed me was:

Miami at San Diego, AFC Divisional Playoff

Good ol' Pete Stoyanovich. FG would've taken us to the AFC Championship.

When was that? 90, 91? I was 11 or 12. I cried too

I am young also, so Id say this game definitely did it to me... i think i cried being under 10

I think what we're sayiing is it was possible, if we beat them once we could do it again.

Do you really think "any given sunday" doesn't apply to Super Sunday also?

definitely the 1994 chargers AFC championship game. Pete Stoyanovich hit the post on a 54 yard field goal to advance to the superbowl.

Jets Dolphins Monday Night Football Game the disgraceful comeback i went to bed for sure thinking the phins won

the jaguars dolphins game 62-7 on Dan Marinos last game.
