What was the most disapointing loss in Dolphin history?

'85 Bears-Dolphins SUPER BOWL???

Ok, people. I love my 'Fins and everything and would have absolutely loved to have seen an '85 Bears-Dolphins SUPER BOWL... but...

I challenge ANYONE to go back and watch that Monday Night game against the Bears and tell me...

1. Who started at QB for the Bears that game. Oh. Uh-hummm. Thank you.
2. If MAYBE - just maybe - Ditka didn't have the W-R-O-N-G gameplan in (on purpose??? fix??? seriously, watch the damn game and tell me something doesn't smell bad)... anyway, wrong gameplan in place for playing the 'Fins DEFENSE... forget Marino and our offense... the Bears lost that game for not grinding the damn ball out with Walter and keeping Marino on the bench (watch the second half closely - Bears had made adjustments but the game was already out of reach).
3. How many lucky breaks did Miami get in that game (remember the tipped pass that ended up flying waaaay up in the air and eventually caught for a TD [I think] by Clayton [again, I think].

Seriously, I remember watching that game when I was like 14 and getting all GEEKED up about it... lost my voice from screaming I was so happy. The memory of that game stayed with me for years. Then, the year we got Ricky, I got GEEKED UP AGAIN for my 'Fins and I decided to take a walk thru memory lane... bought that game tape... listen... I was SOOOOO disappointed. People's memories do fail them, folks. That game was a joke. If ever I thought a pro football game was fixed... this one sure looks like it. Watch Ditka on the sidelines if you doubt. THEN come back and post here.

Looking back, I'd love to have seen Miami play Chicago in the Super Bowl... if only to see if that MNF game was BS (fixed/thrown/whatever) or not.

Finally, I think people's memories are REALLY selective. For as much as Miami AS A TEAM played sloppy in the AFC Championship game against New England... Marino stunk it up that night, people. Again, go back and watch the tape. It's sad, but it was signs of what was more to come and, coincidentally, exactly what scouts had felt would be Marino's drawback (coming out of college)... Danny Boy never could lose a battle to win the war... that is, he FORCED THE DAMN BALL too much. Egos like his are prone to that mistake. Sorry, but the worst thing that ever happened to Marino was for Strock to have left the team. But that's another thread.

Peace. And don't be hating if I'm not all gushing and sh*t about Marino on the eve of his enshrinement. He's done a lot for football and the 'Fins, specifically, but I'd say his off-field efforts are as much or more to be recognized right now than his play. On the field... he was great... but he wasn't prefect. What's sad is, he could have been... if (as I suggest) he'd checked that titanic ego at the door. That's my only beef with Marino, really. Kinda makes me think of Carl Lewis. Imagine these two yelling at the top of their lungs in a hotel lobby check-in arguing for the last room...
"I'm CARL LEWIS!!!" "I'm DAN MARINO"
"I'M CAAAARL LEEEWIS!!!" "I'M DAN FREAK'n MARIIIINO!!!" And so on.

The last one

I have to disagree I was kind of hoping Miami would lose the last game. Different from pick 2 to pick 11.

Send me a tape... :)

I feel you on Marino.....you could see it when he made "that face"....the face that said, it was YOUR fault not mine. I hated that face. I knew when I saw it, that we were going to lose.

You know, InFINS, I think I taped that other infamous NE game (from '02) over it. You still want me to send that tape now? :rofl3:

And, man, that's the thing with "professional" athletes sometimes... actors, musicians, doctors, big businessmen, etc, too... it seems the more success and mastery people tend to have in their given field... the more they be think'n they be people'z mast'a or something! DAMN! :D

No seriously, all ghetto aside, it's sad that even a guy like Dr. Phil-psycho-whatever-his-name is and everyone's beloved (why, I will never understand) Oprah-my-sh*t-don't-stink-and-why-haven't-you-kissed-my-butt-yet Winfrey (sp?)... why do famous/rich/powerful people either A) become outright a**holes or B) walk the rope on the issue and then shrug their shoulders like if to say, "Hey, what do you want - I'm famous."

Seriously, you want to be rich/famous/powerful... just remember this one thing (and I'm not all that religous, mind you):

'To those whom much has been given... much is expected.'

Off the field, Dan Marino did MUCH to give back to not only his immediate community but the community at-large. I just hope someone makes it a point to spell that out at the enshrinement. I think we all lose focus sometimes about the things that are really important and that matter. A person's character and conduct may not necessarily be MORE important than their success or - in the case of an athlete, their stats, victories, rings, etc - but character and conduct should, at least, be AS important.

In this case, OK - so what? so Dan doesn't wear a ring - but as far as for what he's done off the field... Dan Marino IS a Super Bowl MVP.

Sorry for the rant/preach'n.

for me the worst was in San Diego 1994. I told my wife that it was Dan's last chance for a trip to the superbowl.

Sadly I was right. :(

Nice kick Stoyo!! :fire:

Yeah that Riggins run, even though our quarterback was horrible that day I still felt we could win that one with defense, we were leading going into the 4th quarter.

I'll never forget that play where Bokamper almost put it away after batting Thiesmans pass into the air near their goalline and Thiesman got to it just before Bokamper preventing and interception and touchdown.

OHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Pain. The Horror. That was absolutely crushing.

Miami - San Diego

For me it's that heroic comeback against San Diego, which we eventually ended up losing. Second place (a close second) would be leading against San Francisco in the Super Bowl (and losing) and a close third would be leading against Washington (and losing) also in the Super Bowl. Thankfully I was working in all three cases and missed seeing all of them happen.

Every loss is dissappointing, but I'll say the most dissappoiting win was against the Bronco's in Ricky's first season. By the end of that game we had lost Jay Feebler (thumb), Chris Chambers (Concussion) and Oronde Gadsden (wrist). I feel that game cost us the Super Bowl because I truly felt we were the best team in the NFL that year. It was great how we won, but the ramifications of that game still have a profound effect on me to this day.

That truly may have been the worst win in Dolphin history. You're spot on.

Boy did you hit the nail on the head.
That without a doubt was the most dissapointing loss.

That team was better than the Patsies but played one of the sloppiest games I've ever seen. It was definitely Marinos best shot at a title. Adding insult to injury it was the last game ever played at the Orange Bowl putting an everlasting damper on the Phins impressive success while playing in the Orange Bowl.

My father on the other hand would say the 74 playoff loss to the Raiders, fortunately I was young enough that I barely remember that travesty!

That wasn't the last game ever played in the Orange Bowl. The Fins were still in the Orange bowl in 1986. Joe Robbie opened in 1987.

Wow, after reading all these I`ve come to the conclusion, that we`ve had a helluva lot of heartbreakers in our history. It seems as if God is saying "I`ll give you an undefeated season, another SB win the year after...then nothing but pain and suffering for the next 30 years."

Lol!!! I have a buddy who swears Shula made a deal with the devil to get the undefeated season and 2 world Championships, but thereafter the Franchise would be cursed until the great Don Passes.

No Miami '72 was not the best, Heck their '73 team was better. Chi '85, SF '84 & '89, Pitt '78 were all better teams.

Yes the '72 team is the best. None of the other teams mentioned went undefeated.

For me it was the 94 playoff loss to the San Diego chargers where we were up big in the first half and then went scoreless in the second half. Stoyo missed a makeable field goal at the end stopping Marino from a second shot at the SuperBowl.

Ramble all you want, you still haven't proven a thing....

Any given Sunday, junc, any given Sunday.....

You had NO chance against Chicago- NONE. That was an all-time great team, you got lucky and beat them once. They would have embarrassed you and you know you had no chance. They beat the Pats 46-10 and the Pats had just beaten you guys on your home field. What do you think they would have done to you?

Yes the '72 team is the best. None of the other teams mentioned went undefeated.

W/ all due respect to that '72 team it was not the greatest. It was one of the greatest but not the greatest. They also had the worst opponents win % of any SB Champion, their opponents that year had around a 30% win %. That's not good. Your 1973 team was better despite having 2 losses.

Beat Jets twice, jets were 7-7
BeatBuf twice, Buf was 4-9-1
beat bal twice, Bal was 5-9
Beat NE twice, NE was 3-11
Beat KC, KC was 8-6
Beat Hou, hou was 1-13
Beat Minny, Min was 7-7
Beat SD, SD was 4-9-1
Beat SL, SL was 4-9-1
Beat NYG, NYG was 8-6

51-86-3, that's a .36% win %. You did not play one single playof team that reg season. Do you think that contributed to 14-0? There's no doubt you were the best team and you deserve all the credit for not losing but no playoff teams in the reg season? and in the playoffs you won by 6 against Cle, 4 against Pitt and 7 against Was. That's a total difference of 17 points. Let's take Chi '85. They outscored playoff opponents 91-10 and in the reg season they faced 5 playoff teams and their reg season opponents win % was 51%.

The '72 team was great but it was not the best of all-time.

In the Bears head? You beat them once at home on a mon night. You weren't in their heads, there is NO doubt they would have easily beat you in New Orleans.

Yes there is absolutely zero doubt about the possible outcome of a game that was never played.

There is NO doubt that this is the typical mindless drivel of a typical Jets fan.
