I like Miller and feel he could do much better with good blocking up front but he's not very good at pass protection and has not been as good as I had hope in the passing game. I believe we need an up grade there. I also like Clay but he's more of a HB than a real TE. We need to keep on using him but I'd like to have a seam TE and red zone target. But which of the 2 do we need more at this point. RB or TE? Just curious what everyone thinks. Imo, we need a RB more cause at least we have Clay. Wouldn't mind a vet RB that knows how to pick up the blitz in free agency. However, at 19 I'd not mind drafting a top TE.

About equal, and for similar reasons. Miller and Clay are good complimentary players but neither one is the top dog in a first rate offense.

One factor to keep in mind is that this is a great offseason for tight ends. There are several good ones in free agency and this is the best draft year for tight ends since 2010. Running backs are generally easier to find but this isn't the best year for them in FA or the draft. As I've said many times the guy I'd target in FA is Toby Gerhart.

RB. Not close.

If this team doesn't form a strong running game, it's not going anywhere.

I agree with Walrus that it's a weak off season for RB, but the one exception is a big exception. If Jeremy Hill keeps on the straight and narrow, he's going to be a star.

of course we need to fix the oline in order for everything else to work but as much as an line can help a RB, a RB can also make an oline look better. It's been a long while since we had a top RB.

There are a few things to mull over. First is how good are the current players. Clay is real solid, Miller/Thomas mediocre. Second, how many impact plays do you get from each position? A seam threat TE probably still only gets 2 or 3 catches a game in the seam route. It's not that easy a route to complete. A RB will touch the ball 20 times and will have key carries on short yardage, maybe 5 times a game? Can you get the same quality player with a given pick? So if you get the best TE in Ebron, is the best RB that good? Is the next best TE a seam threat? Is there a big WR who could add some bulk?

All of that overlaps the question. Keep in mind a seam threat TE also offers a big target in the red zone, something you just can't defend.

I disagree. Clay more TDs than any other Dolphin this year. Clay was on pace for the best season my any TE in Dolphin history until teams took him out of the game the last two games and schemed against him. He was Tannehill's best comfort target.

We simply cannot finish a game with 29 yards rushing anymore. Our Starting RB had 709 yards rushing and 2 Tds.
Think about that.

I think Philbin prefers an excuse not to run the ball. When Reggie Bush was yanked from the game so quickly it didn't make a lot of sense because we didn't know Philbin yet. Now it's simple to rationalize once we managed an entire season averaging 21.8 rushes per game.

Since we're going to throw the ball anyway I'd prefer the seam tight end.

If Philbin changes course with Lazor and runs the ball sufficiently I'll be happy but surprised. Philbin has already made the one mistake you can't make several times, rationalizing lack of commitment to the running game with low yards per rush early in the game. Aponte doesn't control all the messaging. Or perhaps she is similarly clueless and doesn't realize it's a dumb thing to say.

Our YPPA Differential will continue to suffer if we don't run the ball, and without good YPPA Differential the team is either a weakling or a fraud.

You take an elite running back over and elite catching tight end 10/10 times and it's not even close. An elite back does so much more for your offense and flexibility than a seam tight end ever could in my opinion.

What? Carlos Hyde is gonna be a beast in the NFL. He's a rare breed. Who the **** is Jeremy hill? Lol.

Well, the answer is simple. Ask yourself two questions, and tell me which scenario you would be more comfortable with.

1.) We do NOTHING at TE, but secure an every down RB.

2.) We do NOTHING at RB, but secure a secure a seam threat TE.

For me, I'd take #1 every time. Clay played like a top 10 TE last season, and Egnew flashed momentarily. Miller and Thomas played like steaming sh*t. Rushing for TWO( thats 2, or 1+1 or 3-1. TWO) yards, I can't even finish my thought because the memory of the TB game blinded me.

Think about that.

The running game needs more work than tight end, but fixing the running game is more about getting better offensive linemen than finding a #1 RB, which is a position that barely even exists anymore. So while I think we need a new running back -- preferably an early down hammer to match Miller's speed -- I think we also need a legitimate #1 tight end and as a result the need for each position ends up about equal, if not in the TE's favor (since running backs are traditionally easier to find). If the question was about a #1 tight end versus a new offensive line it would have been a no brainer.

The way the rules work in the modern NFL there's no position that offers a more dominant matchup advantage than having a tight end in Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Tony Gonzalez or Julius Thomas mold. No defense has someone physically able to matchup against those players because colleges haven't yet started putting those kinds of athletes on defense. Eventually they will, but until then every team that has one of those players will reap the rewards.

Might not be popular but we need a good blocking RB and TE.This team as it stands has neither

Clay is decent, Egnew is Crap. Sims has potential. Is Keller coming back?

Daniel Thomas and Miller are Garbage. We need a RB.
