What's so great about Philbin?

But what was his involvement on his super bowl team. I mean an O.C. that doesn't call plays? That never sat right with me. He must have done something else good for G.B. to keep around and for Miami to think he was Head Coach material.

Getting Aaron Rodgers ready and putting him into a position to succeed, leads to more things. I could mention coaches thats have made the leap, but you have your agenda and thoughts, and isn't worth the time.

Game time adjustments and putting the offensive game plan together in GB, while winning a SB.

I've noticed how you gave thumbs down to people in this thread who don't like Philbin. I here i was looking for your posts to see what your opinion was. I'm disappointed in your response quick frankly. Your reference is from Green Bay.

This is a "what-have-you-done-for-me-lately" league. To be honest, what Philbin did in Green Bay is cloudy as it is clear as his reputation as being a decent coach.

But I will challenge you respectfully to answer this question posed by the OP as to what has Philbin does in his tenure as Miami Dolphins Head Coach that's so great?

Most of us don't care about Green Bay. I personally Don't care what the Dolphins did in 2012 anymore. But Philbin as a QB guru has overseen Tannehill regressing. Adjustments have been criticized all year.

So please, give us your opinion. Because it's easy to "thumb down" everyone and not add to the conversation.

Tannehill has regressed? must not have been watching the same team...

Sure we can get all caught up in the numbers, which is what everyone hangs their hat on.

The only stat I care about are wins.

The playoffs is the only barometer for me to a successful season.

Tannehill **** the bed in the final 2 games. So yeah, regression.

Getting to 8-8 was an over achievement considering the talent we had. When you get 8 wins with 6-win talent, that's coaching. When your GM refuses to listen to your OL needs, you lose 4 offensive starters throughout t the season, dealing with bullygate, and still manage 8 wins - that's coaching right there. And lets not forget the development of Tannehill and Clay.

The Dolphins are on the cusp of being a playoff team, why would anyone want to start all over from scratch, when you can try to continue to build on a team that can be pretty good?

This is why I wanted Ireland fired along with Sparano. The team at that time was average with some bright spots (half-decent running game, 3rd ranked rushing defense, defense didn't give up to many points), but they really needed upgrades at the playmaker positions (including QB) and better coaching/playcalling. Ross should have brought in a new GM who could draft/sign those playmakers and a better coaching staff, and hopefully they would've turned most of those FGs into TDs. They wouldn't have to start over; they just needed to improve/upgrade what was already there.

Instead, Ross keeps Ireland and hires Philbin. Philbin wants a completely different offense installed. He doesn't have the personnel for this new offense, but he runs it anyway. Ireland still can't put together an o-line. The strength of the team (rushing defense) was completely ruined by Philbin, Coyle, and Ireland's scheme and personnel changes, and in 2 years it dropped from 3rd to 24th. Philbin's offensive plan uses the short passing game in place of a strong running game, and the result has been a one-dimensional offense with too many stalled drives. They struggle to score points, and were shut out for entire halves numerous times. Half-time adjustments were a rarity. On top of all that, the team always starts out slow and does not seem ready at the beginning of games. There was no consistency at all... they were 4-3 against teams that made the playoffs, but 4-5 against teams that missed the post-season. While winning teams occasionally have a few bad games, they don't pull a complete Jeckyll & Hyde from one game to the next!

While they have some talent, something is awfully wrong with this team. IMO, the past two seasons have been a complete waste. If Ross would have just cleaned house back then Miami may be in the playoffs today.

if wins is all you care about, how is a 1 game improvement, a regression?

There was a lot wrong with Sparano though, compared to Philbin. Lots of questionable time management with Sparano. His love for settling for FG's, etc. I do agree, it probably would have been better to bring in a new GM and HC, when sparano was fired. Perhaps Philbin and a new GM?

The same intelligence displayed by Bill Belichick.

I think this may turn out to be a problem for Philbin.

I've had a long standing theory that stupid coaching decisions undermine a football team. Not all players have rocks for brains so when they see a coach do something stupid it takes some of the wind out of their sails, even if its just a little its probably enough to ensure the team will fail. Andy Reid with his terrible clock management against the Colts has probably doomed that team until he's gone now for instance.

I've had an epiphany this week after a season of arguing strategy with the feeble minded, I think Philbin might have the same problem with his team being undermined by stupidity but for the exact opposite reason. I hope I'm wrong but he's probably just too progressive for the average football player.

All,

When the first man claimed the earth was round for the first time -- do you think he was considered a genius by his peers or a moron?

You guys are all talking about how a 1 game improvement is something we should all be happy about.

Over achievement? ****ing monumental collapse. Lack of leadership. Lack of putting players in a position to succeed. Lack of motivating this team to win one ****ing game to change the fortunes of this franchise.

All the **** we're going through today isn't signs of progression.

Unless you've grown so accustomed to mediocrity, you hang your hat on the teeniest bit of change.

We're not in the playoffs. We could've have been. But this team clearly regressed when all the chips on the table. Who cars about beating NE when you stink vs Buffalo and NYJ.

You play to WIN.. Period. You play to get into the playoffs and win championships.

No, one more game means nothing. Means just the same **** different day.
