Simple. He gets a offer to start for the MInnesota Vikings. Throwing to Randy Moss, Chris Carter with one of the most underrated backs of all time Robert Smith.

Analysts were saying they would be the clear favorites from the NFC.

Rather then selling out and, what at the time looked like a sure shot at one last SB, he decided to retire a Phin.

Regardless of how much people questioned his ethics or his teamwork, he ended his career as classy as you could.

great post. i felt the way about dan that i did about ray bourque. he deserved the opportunity, if he went id cheer for him, and wish him the best, if he did go and won a title with minny id have no resentment at all. but your right

The play that best describes Marino to me would be any of the hundred or so plays where he completes the pass to a covered (or double covered) WR. I imagine it must have been maddening for DCs to know they called the right D and that Marino still completed the pass. Marino was never great at reading defenses, but he had soo much physical ability and confidence that it didn't matter.

ive said it a million times before. this game is not that hard when you have the physical gifts dan had, like rafael just stated, dan could pick a guy regardless of who was on him, and throw it to the exact spot he needed to 40 yards downfield. when you can put the ball exactly where you want it, who needs to be able to read a defense

Too many plays to decide from.Ican think of 420 really good ones:lifter:

94 Pats, more to it then touchdown

This is my first post/reply ever to any dolphins site, but I had to comment. The 94 game, back from injury (supposedly his time was done). The whole game was what makes Marino, well Marino.

The new young gun, Bledsoe, trying to show he was the new man in the NFL (both throw for 400 yards), but Marino has the never say die attitude. The touchdown pass on Fourth Down is forever in my mind, but people forget one other HUGE MOMENT. Marino, ran (well its called running to be respectful to the man), but he ran for 10 yards for a first down to keep the drive alive. That is the Marino we all know, he maybe ran for 200 yards his whole career, but when the team needed him to he got the first down with his legs not arm. The bodies around him in the mood it just was classic.

One other throw I have in my mind and am wondering if some one can give me the details (do I have the right team and WR).

I belive there was 7 seconds left, we are down by 4 and its 4th down vs. Falcons, Marino throws a bullet to Fryer or OJ for the win. Does anyone remember this. It was a day game and outside.

any game against the jets with the score over 30 points and

it was duper/clayton and marino vs todd/toon and wesley walker...

loved those games..

He Limped to a 1st down and that was one of my fav. plays... All the pregame shows were talking about how he could barely walk and if he gets hit he was done. Runs for a 1st down and throws for 400+ with like 3TD.. Marino back nuff said.

The two minute drill (any of them) IMO thats where Marino was most dangerous and you really seen his intensity come out.

Ding ding ding! I was going to say that.

Remember the time he was knocked down or sacked(can't remember) and Dan reached up and grabbed the player by the jersey as if to say "never again you SOB!" I also respect Dan for sticking with ONE team through out his entire career, he respected Wayne and the organization. At his retirement party when Wayne was announced the fans booed him, Dan grabbed the microphone and said "hey, don't be that way" ....He's a true sports icon!!!

I'll put the Steeler's play second. First for me was the opening game of the 94 season against New England when he was coming of the injury and people questioned if he would still be able to play. Late in the game with the Dolphins behind, 4th and long with the game on the line he throws a long touchdown to Fryar to win it. That's what Marino was about. The guts to throw the ball anywhere anytime under any circumstance. And he would do it when they needed it most.

This is exactly the play I was thinking.
