For now, let's forget about overall pass blocking, hits and hurries, and just focus on how we keep Tannehill of his back fewer than 58 times by projecting where we are going to do that.
We had 7 team sacks on defenders being unblocked on the blitz. I'm thinking that Lazor and Benton can cut that to maybe 4.
Tannehill too 3 for holding the ball too long. That was good with Foles taking 6. The same would be fine.
TE's gave up 2 Don't see any room to improve.
RB's gave up 5. Maybe we can cut that to 2 or 3.
So, with little luck, we cut 5 sacks.
On to the OL, who gave up 41 sacks. This is not exact, with all our changes but, close enough.
McKennie & Martin gave up 14 sacks. Albert gave up 4 but, missed 4 games, and is coming to a new team. Let's **** him for 6, and w save 8.
Pouncey only gave up 2. Hope for the same.
Clabo gave up 11. I'm thinking that James, as a rookie, gives up 10.
Jerry gave up 5. The average for an OG is 4. I don't see Shelly being any better.
Cog gave up 6, Brenner 1, and Garner2. Maybe Dallas in between Albert and Pouncey, gives up 4.
Based on the above, we may be able to cut down to 40 but, that is being pretty optimistic.
Blitz:
I believe the blitz will at times still be a probelm, I believe it will probably be less then last year though. From 7 to
5 sacks
Ryan Tannehill (Holding too long):
Tannehill (like most young QBs) will have moments when he will get mixed up and have to eat it, and with such a fast paced offense, mistake will happen, including overthinking at times to hold longer then should. From 3 to
3 sacks (I expect improvement by the end of the year).
TE:
I agree with Southbeach, should be no change. From 2 to again
2 sacks
RB:
With Moreno, Miami should have better blocking from the RBs, but he may not be on the field as much as people expected considering how much better Miller has been looking running with the ball. Miller still is not going to be that effective a blocker, so the amount will get better but probably by not as much as we hope. From 5 to
4 sacks
LT:
The Biggest difference will come from here. As SB said, Albert gave up only 4 sacks in 12 games (That’s about a 3rd of a sack each game, so in 16 games, that would come out to 5 sacks), but I expect even better stats from Albert this year then last. From 14 sacks to
3 sacks.
LG:
This is the tricky one, how good will a 1st year starting guard (coming back from injury) look, well so far Dallas has looked good (pads will tell us much much more), and he will be in the middle of two premium linemen to help him. From 9 sacks to
6 sacks.
Center:
Pouncy is one of the best Centers in the league, and will have something to prove from last year. From 2 sacks last years to at worse
2 sacks again.
RG:
This is the area that might actually get worse pass blocking. Even though Jerry had another inconsistent year, Shelly’s specialty is run blocking, yet very bad pass-blocking. We can only hope as he gets more experience pass blocking, he will get better. From 5 sacks to
7 sacks
LT:
James is going to be a rookie playing RT, going against some tough pass-rushers in our division alone, so there is no reason I should feel as confident as I do with him pass blocking, but I really have a good feeling about him, he will still have bad growing pains, but still think by mid-season, he should be at least solid. From 11 sacks to
6 sacks.
So it will go from 58 sacks in my opinion to
38.
