Who are you willing to get rid of for...

Definitely would be Travis Minor, I really don't see any way he can make the team with Ricky returning. Some people said Lamar Gordon or Kay Jay Harris would be cut before Travis Minor because he's a special teams player, I find ridiculous. Out of all our RB's, no doubt in mind... Minor.

why would cutting harris be ridiculous? if he doesn't play special teams, of course... i'm not advocating one thing or another, but minor's a pretty good special teams player, and you don't just plug people in there. all aspects of the game are important.

...Ricky Williams? I continue to be surprised at the number of fans on this site that can't wait for Ricky to come back to this team. Have any of you really thought this through? Some thoughts to ponder about this move:

1. One of our RB prospects will have to be cut to make room for him. This will be a player with great potential that we will lose to make room for a player that is on the downside of his career.

2. Many of you seem to think Ricky will come back as strong as he used to be...nothing could be further from the truth. He has already had his best season, he will not reach that level again. Expect Ricky (with a full season) to put up average YPC and total yards, and maybe even less.

3. Salary. Ricky will not come for the league minimum. He is going to make good money, so is Ronnie Brown. That is a lot of money for the RB position that could be better spent on some OL or secondary help. Plus, you will be paying him for a maximum of 12 games after his suspension. All I heard about during draft time was value, and how we should discard some of our best players (that aren't head cases and have never quit) so that we could get the best value. How is Ricky Williams a value at this point?

4. Team chemistry. I see many of you think that the team has forgiven him. Are you sure? Do you really believe Zach and JT are going to really say what they feel about the situation to the press? Saban is evaluating everyone, what he wants will not be openly second guessed or criticized by the players.

5. Many of you have said you will welcome him back if his "head is in the game" and he "really wants to win". What makes you think this is any more than a way out of an $8.6 million settlement?

6. Ricky can't be trusted. This is perhaps the biggest issue. Suppose Ronnie goes down, and Ricky starts carrying the load again. Maybe he gets too many carries in the game...will he be there the next week? Suppose he hits a club, and someone fires up a joint and offers him a toke...is he going to refuse? Suppose the Fins stun the NFL and make it to the playoffs...will Ricky dress for the game, or will he put on a dress and go clubbing?

I cannot conceive of any way that Ricky coming back is a good thing. This decision will come back to bite Saban in the end.

I'm willing to get rid of the 52nd best player on our roster, doesn't have to be a back if we have a talented player we don't want to lose, theres no law that states we can't carry an extra back.

Not all of us carry grudges for the rest of our lives. Some of us understand the value of being given a second chance in life. I know I have been given my fair share, I imagine you probably have too. Yet, you're not willing to give Ricky a second chance. Whatever, dude.

How delightfully self righteous of you. Miami was Ricky's second chance, now he is asking for a third.

I don't believe my post had much to do with holding a grudge, either. Did you read it? I don't think many people did, because the only thing that has been addressed is how willing we are to give up Travis Minor.

Why not read and address the points I made instead of trying to paint me as some kind of unforgiving killjoy?

Minor was a serious dissapointment last year. I didn't expect him to turn into Ricky, but I did expect him to give something to this team. He can take his 1.6 ypc and get the hell out for all I care. At the moment, i'm not a huge Ricky fan. But once he starts running over defenses my tune, and yours will quickly change. If Ricky helps us win everybody will soon forgive and forget.

Ricky hurt all of us with his actions. But he doesn't seem to be the most stable individual. As long he is doing the things he needs to do to get help, i'm gonna be as open to him rejoining the team as I can be. People make mistakes everybody, Ricky's mistake hurt lots of people, and that's why this is still such a huge issue. Soon it will be a thing of the past, i'm sure of it.

Its ironic how our running game was so terrible and this year it should be top 5 in the league. We could use Ricky and Lamar on 1st and 2nd and Let Ronnie be the 3rd down back. It will give him rest and experience while we use Ricky up. Lets be excited for once instead of griping. This could be one the best backfields ever.

You know, those were the exact same arguments everyone used when we gave him his second chance by signing him from NO. My opinion of Ricky will not change, as my opinions of a person's character won't change based on how many touchdowns they score

It's great that the NFL is turning into a rehab league for thugs...hey as long as they win, right? :shakeno: :shakeno: :shakeno:

Right.. i'm not one to let my big ego get in the way of where I want this team to go, apparently you are. As you stated we have a nice running corpse this year. Ricky can't hurt us like he did last year. This time around we have insurance. The only thing he can do is help. I don't want to sit through another 4-12 season, i'm sorry. We need all the help we can get.

To answer all of those questions on your last point about him either qutting or smoking again there is a simple solution.. he quits soo what, who cares, and if he smokes then cut him. And that is if and only if he does that stuff again. You have only picked out the worst case scenerio, so lets look at the bright side for once.

Ricky gets back to form, helps in our new offence with Ronnie in a dynamic 1-2 punch, giving time for Ronnie to adjust to his position and allowing him to play other positions and to take on different roles showing his versitility. This opens up our offence to spread the ball to Chambers Booker Boston and McMike.

Really, once you give it a little thought, there is only upside and no risk...

Great potential?? Travis Minor has "great potential"? Sorry I'll take Ricky on the "downside" of his career over Minor at any point in his career.

Personally its not so much about being willing to take Ricky back as it is whatever has to be done to make the TEAM better.
