Who are you willing to get rid of for...

Why would we get rid of Howard? We're already hurting for depth.

I agree Byroan--I think we are weaker here than anywhere else. Although most of my fave players on D are LBS, next to a solid D line i consider the two CB's the next two most important players on D

...Ricky Williams? I continue to be surprised at the number of fans on this site that can't wait for Ricky to come back to this team. Have any of you really thought this through? Some thoughts to ponder about this move:

1. One of our RB prospects will have to be cut to make room for him. This will be a player with great potential that we will lose to make room for a player that is on the downside of his career.

2. Many of you seem to think Ricky will come back as strong as he used to be...nothing could be further from the truth. He has already had his best season, he will not reach that level again. Expect Ricky (with a full season) to put up average YPC and total yards, and maybe even less.

3. Salary. Ricky will not come for the league minimum. He is going to make good money, so is Ronnie Brown. That is a lot of money for the RB position that could be better spent on some OL or secondary help. Plus, you will be paying him for a maximum of 12 games after his suspension. All I heard about during draft time was value, and how we should discard some of our best players (that aren't head cases and have never quit) so that we could get the best value. How is Ricky Williams a value at this point?

4. Team chemistry. I see many of you think that the team has forgiven him. Are you sure? Do you really believe Zach and JT are going to really say what they feel about the situation to the press? Saban is evaluating everyone, what he wants will not be openly second guessed or criticized by the players.

5. Many of you have said you will welcome him back if his "head is in the game" and he "really wants to win". What makes you think this is any more than a way out of an $8.6 million settlement?

6. Ricky can't be trusted. This is perhaps the biggest issue. Suppose Ronnie goes down, and Ricky starts carrying the load again. Maybe he gets too many carries in the game...will he be there the next week? Suppose he hits a club, and someone fires up a joint and offers him a toke...is he going to refuse? Suppose the Fins stun the NFL and make it to the playoffs...will Ricky dress for the game, or will he put on a dress and go clubbing?

I cannot conceive of any way that Ricky coming back is a good thing. This decision will come back to bite Saban in the end.
Nowhere is it written that a RB has to be cut to make room for RW. Every team differs in how they balance out their roster (ex. under Wanny we kept 1-2 fewer OL than alot of teams). We may keep every RB we have, including Ricky. As for his strength; all of this remains to be seen. A couple of things to consider, though. Ricky has a mesomorphic body type. This means he's someone that gains muscle easily. Also RB requires instincts which are inherent, so he hasn't forgotten how to be a running back.
As for salary, I don't even want to get into that because it gives me a headache. Team chemistry? I think everyone wants to win; that's the bottom line.
I'm sorry but your #6 reason takes your post down to the level of nonsense. You start off reasonably enough with "Ricky can't be trusted". Very true; I believe everyone across the board thinks the same thing. However, if Brown gets injured, he's injured whether Ricky is here or not. If saban cuts a RB to make room for Ricky it would be a guy who was on the bubble anyway; not the guy who would have stepped in to replace Brown should Brown get injured. Then the whole dress thing was just silly.
IMHO, Ricky will not get a free ride from Saban. I believe he is going to have to come in, show he wants to be here and earn a spot on the roster. Some of you people who disapprove of RW coming back seem to think that Saban is just going to give Ricky a position on the team. I don't believe that. Ricky is going to be evaluated like everyone else and if he can't cut it he'll be gone. So I don't see the big problem with him coming back. If he doesn't have the heart for it anymore, it'll show.

If we're cutting a RB, I would cut Minor before Gordon because it seems like Gordon has shown a bit more when given the opportunity at feature back (discounting Gordon's injury). I don't think Kay Jay gets a free pass, either: as an undrafted free agent, he's going to need to show a LOT to earn a roster spot.

I think Kay-Jay would be the odd-man out...He was brought in to MAKE the team, while Minor is not amazing, Saban knows that Special Teams is an important factor of the game, and I believe he will keep him, if he didn't want Minor, we never would have retained him...Unfortunately if Kay-Jay does nothing to impress, it will be him. Kay-Jay was an amazing player at WVU, but there was a reason why he NOBODY took a chance on him...People always take guys who are talented, even if they're smaller, no room for improvement, etc. in the later rounds of the draft, but NOBODY drafted this guy...I'm not saying anything bad about him, because as a Marshall fan, knowing West Virginia football this guy can play...This definitely isn't a bad thing, its always great to have depth at RB.

Ricky was getting an opportunity to start over. Starting over=second chance.

RW`s move to Miami was a "fresh start" not a "second chance".

And no.....its not the same thing.

Was RW ever suspended from the team in New Orleans?

Was he ever suspended from the league while in New Orleans?

Was he arrested?

Did he lose his starting job?

Get in a bar fight?

Ride on the hood of a meter maids car?

Float rumors about Jeff Garcia being gay?

Was he caught with the whizinator?

What did he do that you would consider being such an awful offense that the guy was getting a "second chance" in Miami?

From everything Ive read the guy was getting a "fresh start" here.

When I was 21 ,I had a bad relationship in MI that I wanted to get out of my head....

So I moved to Florida.

I had not done anything wrong but I needed a change of scenery, environment.....etc

Was that a "second chance"?

Or was that a "fresh start"?

There is a difference.

Gordon;

2002 Rams 65att 228 yrds 3.5 avrg 1td
2003 Rams 71att 298 yrds 4.2 avrg 1td
2004 Miami 35att 64yrds 1.8 avrg 0tds

Minor; att/yards/average/tds

2001 Miami 59/281/4.8/2
2002 Miami 44/180/4.1/2
2003 Miami 41/193/4.7/1
2004 Miami 109/388/3.6/3

Going by Career stats I would say Minor is better then Gordon, Minor is also a change of pace back also.

I would keep Minor and lose someone else.

right now Minor weighs more then Ricky does and some of you forget that

I'm willing to get rid of the 52nd best player on our roster, doesn't have to be a back if we have a talented player we don't want to lose, theres no law that states we can't carry an extra back.

It's not just the spot, it's also the salary. RW's agent already said he won't be coming back for the minimum. So if an arbitrator rules that he should get the 3.7 million, would you be comfortable not resigning Mcmichael (for example) to make room for RW?

Everyone seems to be forgetting this fact. Ricky will not play for the minimum, something his agent very openly stated at the onset of these discussions.

travis minor, eddie moore, sammy moris, seth mckinney, taylor whitley, or even reggie howard. I don't think any of these players are worth keeping around with their money.

Or AJ

Easy answer: Travis Minor.

I hope Minor isn't reading this site. Poor baztard.....But shhhh...I agree. Sendem packing. Grab a bottle of water and a bag of Doritos and hit the road.

Does anybody think Gordon or Morris have any trade value? if Gordon/Morris have a healthy camp/pre season, do you think somebody who has a back go down might give a 4th or something? I do and I think one of those two go. Remember we don't have to get down to 53 until much later(and I don't know when Ricky will be counted)
