Yes, but not good enough to beat the Bills when it mattered. Also, "good" is a little strong - they were better than average but not great. The bent but typically didn't break - unless they were playing the Bills - who were just the better team... In the 80's - '83, '84, '85 we win SBs 2 of those 3 years if we had a good D. The '84 team would have beat MOST teams that ever won a SB. Problem is we drew the 15-1 Niners who were better than our 14-2 team...Miami had good defenses in 1990 and 1992
Got to go with Saban, even though he was more successful then most, of all the HC, he is the one that did the most damage to the franchise.
With JJ, Miami was successful, with Wanny (like him or hate him) Miami was successful, then came Satan, and the Miami franchise has never been the same since.
So far 2nd place with 26 too.
What do I wish I could erase from Dolphin history? Joe Montana.
In hindsight it's got to by Jimmy Johnson for me. At the time I though he was a great hire for the team.
That said, he started this whole train wreck. Him mailing it in brought in Wanny ball and it just went downhill from there. If we could have gotten a winner of a coach from the get go, all these other names would likely never have been mentioned as Dolphins...
Oh, I agree he could have been great and like I said, I was a big fan at first. I read an article some time back, I think from Jason Cole, though that went into detail on how JJ just gave up once the job got tough. Played day trader in his office and pretty much put the assistants in charge of coaching. It was just an article so take it with a grain of salt, but then he was also the one who hand picked Wanny to be his replacement. He HAD to know what type of a coach he was due to their history. JJ just didn't care and we are where we are now.The thing is, JJ could have been great. He built a great (at least until the Jacksonville game) pro-bowler studded defense. If Yatil Green had never torn his ACL twice, or if he had drafted Randy Moss instead, or if he arrived a few years earlier when Marino was still in his prime....it could have been a lot different.
