Mike Shanahan or Gary Kubiak both guys know the value of running the ball. The Big Bonus is the OL is all ready built for their style of of ABS.

I'll take Wade Phillips as DC and throw Croyle is the trash heap.

I can't take anyone seriously who wouldn't "like" Harbaugh to be the coach here next year. Doesn't mean it will happen, but damn if that wouldn't be the best.

Gus Malzahn. Aside from him, probably Harbaugh.

Cowher, but I don't see him leaving the booth. Second choice would be Harbaugh. Third choice....find a young fresh college type guy.

If it was at all humanly possible I'd give Jimmie Johnson 10% ownership to be GM for life.

I have to say I agree with your comment about Philbin.

I don't understand the love for Harbaugh, I'm not sure the 49ers have gotten better from the team he was handed, I would say they are worse. Also aren't there rumblings about him losing the locker room?

Sumlin might be the hottest prospect now so maybe him.

Before Harbaugh arrived in SF, the team had produced double digit wins since 2002, and they hadn't made it to an NFC Championship game since 1997. Harbaugh has 11 or more wins (11-4-1 being his worst record) in each of his three seasons in SF and three consecutive NFC Championship appearances. You're going to have to work really hard to justify that statement.

I voted Harbaugh. Known commodity, great coach. I'd be excited about either of the SEA coordinators or Gus Malzahn, and I'd be cautiously optimistic about Mark Dantonio.

For some reason everybody hates Wannstedt. He won because he ran the football. Not coincidental or complicated. He covered the spread much more often than not and went over his season win over/under because he ran the football.

Wow...seriously......Wannstedt won because he inherited good teams and then drove them into oblivion. Beside Cam, I think he was the worst coach we have ever had. He coached scared and had no idea how to draft....other than that a great guy I'm sure.

Wannstedt had more success than anyone since Shula. His problem was he couldn't draft and banked his future on Jay Fiedler.

Dave Wannstedt was a terrible coach. He understood the value of rushing the football? Yes. Still a terrible coach. To my dying day I will never forget Wannstedt telling a sideline reporter, at halftime with the Dolphins up by 10, that the team's plan in the 2nd half was to 'keep it close and try to win it in the 4th quarter.'

As for Harbaugh, our problem is not that we might get Jim Harbaugh in exchange for a couple of draft picks. Our problem is that we probably won't get Jim Harbaugh, even if we offer up the picks.

Of the three guys I mentioned, I know Kubiak will be available. You want to fix the offense? You want a guy who will run the ball and actually run plays a QB currently on the roster is best suited for? That's who you can go get. Of course, we'll wind up hiring Adam Gase, or something, because he's been Peyton Manning's coffee run guy for the last 2 years.

Other and another re-hire:

Dan Quinn DC Seattle.

THIS. Dan Quinn is a PHENOMENAL football coach. Jason Taylor called him "the best defensive line coach I've ever seen" Seattle is very, very talented on defense, but in his first year as an NFL defensive coordinator, his defense was #1 in Points Per Game, #1 in takeaways, #2 in Redzone D, and #6 in 3rd down D. He also coordinated the defense that held arguably the greatest offense ever, to 8 points in the Super Bowl.

In preparation for the Super Bowl, Quinn watched EVERY snap Peyton Manning had taken as a Bronco in less than 2 weeks. This guy is a film junkie and an outstanding football coach.

Dan Quinn is the next super star head coach in the NFL.

Gus Malzahn is a great college coach. I just don't like spread offenses. They may put up nice stats, but they make your defense soft and worse because they have to practice against that offense all off-season and in training camp and the only 2 teams right now that run it are Philly and Miami. So you may play against it once a year at most. I think he is a great college coach who won't be leaving Auburn anytime soon. Chip will have a good offense, but his defense will always be lacking. They won't ever be a contender because they can't stop anyone.

Jim Harbaugh is a dick. Worse behind the scenes than you see on TV. His players are tired of him. But he is a pretty good coach. His brother is the total opposite. He's a really nice guy and his players love him. If he were to be let go he would be a great hire.

So..

#1 Dan Quinn
#2 John Harbaugh
#3 Jim Tomsula

Kevin Sumlin with Kacy Rogers as the Defensive Coordinator.

If we went the college route I would prefer either David Shaw at Stanford or Charlie Strong at Texas. Both of those coaches are strong leaders which is something we desperately need. However Dan Quinn would be my overwhelming choice. IMO he's the best choice because of his NFL experience, work ethic, and success as a DC. Also he is a leader. If we change coaches it is imperative we get a leader.

Quinn is by far #1 on the coaching candidates list.. and with the last 2 coaches being Offensive, actually Offensive Line Coaches, hopefully Ross decides to go defense. I feel like defensive coaches have a better understanding of both sides of the ball than offensive coaches.
