Why does FH think we wont be running the ball this year?

why acquire 2 highly priced running backs in the offseason if you arent going to run the ball? thats retarded. We could have spent picks elsewhere if that was the case, it just doesnt add up.

High priced? I'm not following. Did we spend 8+ million on Deangelo Williams? Did we grab Ingram with the 15th overall? We traded for a RB who has ALWAYS been more dangerous in the passing game than in the running game. Then we drafted a kid in the 2nd round. Of course we are going to have running plays, but this IMO is no longer a run first offense. The only 3 RB's that had carries on the team last season are no longer on the team . . . we have to replace them with something.

Watching the preseason games lead me to believe we will be throwing the ball a lot more this year.

preseason? i dont think daboll would be dum enough to show belichick how he is going to run his offense monday night.

It is clear they want to run the ball up the middle
they tried it last year 3rd most in the league while being rating one of the worst at it
so they were stubborn to the point of running it up the gut.

This is one reason why they drafted pouncey and thomas
they clearly want to run the ball up the middle..
So far not so good in this regard so as the dolphins seem
at least one good guard away from making this happen.

SO what will they do? Continue to run up the gut for 3 yards and a cloud of dust?
or will they do more outside running with bush and risk losing yards in the sake of bigger gains?
or worse will the wildcat be forced upon thomas and clay ect
to get an extra blocker to help in the run game..

really dude? your going to compare our offense to the colts and patriots already when we havent even played 1 regular season game yet? clueless.....

There is a difference between comparing the scheme of an offense and the efficiency of an offense. Nobody is saying we are going to be as efficient as those teams . . . those teams have proven QB's . . . but schematically we will be similar.

LOL!

I didn't compare us in terms of efficiency or skill. Just in terms of strategy. Do you think you your offense must have a fullback unless you have Peyton Manning or Tom Brady at quarterback?

Get a clue, my man. Seriously. There are a lot of ways to skin a cat.

New orleans used him in the passing game because they have drew brees, we have chad henne. New orleans offense is based on brees, a franchise max contract qb. Chad henne is no where near that. I'd say a 2nd round pick is pretty high priced when all these finheaven members are always bitching about us trading away 5th round picks ect... as for reggie, i'd say he was extremely high priced and we were extremely lucky to land this guy, part of the reason we got him is cause new orleans knows how dangerous he is and made sure to send him to an afc east team, along with miami agreeing to reggie demands to be a "featured RB" it was the icing on the cake, not to play receiver all the time like in new orleans.

this year is going to be more about forcing defenses to spread out, both laterally and verically, so guys like bush, marshall, and bess can do things in space, and also act as decoys for guys like clay, fasano, hartline, and gates to move the chains (though gates may be more of a decoy then a chain mover).

i look at how hillis had 60 receptions for 500 yards and i drool at what reggie might be able to do with that amount of receptions.

to me it's not about running or not, its about spreading d's out and taking what they have to give us, which is checkdowns and short throws. welcome to a west coast offense i guess?

Henne may get killed because none of our backs full or not are good blockers

hilliard is a good blocker... but i think we will be fine. we will spread the d out run, run, hopefully play action. i really think henne is going to take a step foword, but who knows. it all come down to how he plays in the end

hiulliiard is good enough for a HB but as a FB he is subpar

seriously tho, we ran the ball for the last decade and have **** to show for it. **** the running game.

I agree. The coaches had said it so often I felt like I had it drilled into my head, then like some sort of football Stockholm Syndrome I actually started to believe it. Run the football. Stop the run. This is how you win football games.

At some point last year it suddenly snapped. "Self," I said. "What's wrong with you? You don't even particularly like the running game, do you?" And I realized no, I don't. It's boring.

I mean, I grew up when Marino was still in his prime, so aggressive passing is in my DNA. "Forget all this running **** and put the goddamn ball in the air, that's what we need to be doing," I said to myself. Not only is it more entertaining but the rules combined with schematic innovations have allowed the passing game to grow in consistency to where it is now an efficient way to move the ball.

I'm happy that Tony is on board with this now. But I would have preferred someone who didn't have to be convinced with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch.
