Why is there such a disconnect about how much talent is here?

Agree, some were. he held the ball too long on many occassions. Regardless, when you can't run the ball effectively between the tackles, or really at all without complete disguise, you have an issue. This seriously is one of the worst OL's in the history of the NFL.

We've been bad for so long that people don't recognize great anymore, most of what we've seen has been below average to bad so average looks great to us. CK made a projections post on Tannehill before the season (wish I could find it because I think it ended up being pretty accurate) where he had Tannehill at 3700 yards or so and 25ish tds and everybody started freaking out talking about how amazing that would be. CK replied that he basically just took average numbers from QBs with about an 87 rating. Thats how long its been since we've had a good QB, average looks amazing to us.

I suspect the same thing is happening at most positions, we haven't drafted probowl type receivers, defensive backs, linebackers, QBs or passrushers in decades so we're at the point where people see average and they think amazing. Its kind of like if you move to an Eskimo village full of fat ugly chicks, if you're there long enough eventually the the best looking of the uglies starts to look pretty to you.

At this time of the year, people can see that. The problem is the rose-colored glasses only come off for about two weeks here...

If you had done the same question before the season began, you would have:

OL average
WR outstanding
QB above average
RB above average
TE average

DL outstanding
LB above average
DB average

Kicking average

Special teams average
The proof is in the pudding. If anyone had those rankings at start of season, they were delusional.

Why is there any debate? Just break it down as follows by unit: outstanding, above average, average, below average and poor.

OL poor
WR average
QB below average
RB poor
TE average

DL outstanding
LB poor
DB average

Kicking average

Special teams below average

was getting ready to say RT is not below average but he certainly was the last 2 weeks.

Excuse my gross ignorance, I am foreign - what is a Rorschach?

It's that psychological test where they take an ink blot and ask you tell what you see in the mess...they show it on TV shows, but I don't know if anyone actually uses it...

Yeah, in 2000 Bellicheck had Bledsoe and it was BB first year with the Rats. They went 5-11, crap. Then in 2001 DB got hurt in week 2 against the Bills I think (they lost both those games) and Brady came in they never looked back and finished 11-5 that year. Right, so he coached 17 games before Brady and they went 5-13 in those 17 games. Not good. The one year when he didnt have Brady, I was referring to 2011 when they went 11-5 while Brady was injured. They did have Brady in 2000 but he rode the bench.

Brother, he coached about 20 games in New England before Drew Bledsoe nearly died on the field and they made a change at QB.

It was not going well.

I dont know why youre bringing Egnew into this discussion. He isnt counted on for anything. Clay had an outstanding year. I think Miller can be a 1000 back but he needs an above average line to open large holes for him so he can use his speed, since his vision is only decent and he has no ability to break even the smallest shoe string of a tackle.
2nd and 3rd grade talent all over.

Brady was hurt in 2008 and yes, they did very well to go 11-5 that year. However, that was also the year after they had gone 18-1 and they had the best offense in the NFL. Even Matt Cassel was able to put points on the board with that group. Randy Moss, Wes Welker...

You lost me at "QB Below Average"

Average? Sure, but a "below average QB", doesn't lead the team to the brink of the playoffs, unless the rest of the team is absolutely loaded.

Tannehill had a great 2 month stretch of games before falling off the cliff the past two weeks. I pin a lot of the issues on the OL for the Bills game, but he was way off his game yesterday.

I agree. annnd Im not sure what we're arguing about.

Because the play of our QB brings down the whole team.

There is actually a good bit of talent on this roster. With adequate QB play this is a 10+ win team easy.

Clearly that is evident by the heaps of praise the OL has been getting all year by the local media, national media, and the fan base. We do have 5 pro bowl caliber linemen, right?

We've got a crappy #1 WR, mediocre #2 WR, and nobody at RB worth a damn. Sure, QB, that's it.....

idiotic posts.....
