Why Not Promote Brian Gaine?

It makes too much sense for them to promote Gaine. I feel bad for the guy that he is stained by Ireland. I really feel for him. It is not his fault.

I won't hold being Ireland's subordinate against Brian Gaine.

I've worked for people I didn't agree with on just about anything before.

You look at the remaining resumes and Gaine is better than the guys remaining. Give the guy the shot.

There has been a lot of conjecture of what the Fins should do for their GM position. There have been debates of the timing. There have been debates of power structure. There have been debates of who is talented enough to fill the position.

I have been pleased with who the Dolphins have interviewed. For example, Ray Farmer could be a fit and an excellent hire. However, as time goes on, I am also drawn to the idea of who fits best in the team's current structure. I want this team to win now, not later. It has become exhausting watching the offseason changes to the FO and coaching staffs over the past ten years.

Therefore, the more and more I think of it, I wonder if Brian Gaine is in fact the best fit. Without a doubt, people will holler that he is a "Jeff Ireland Clone", but that is not the case. Brian Gaine is his own man when it comes to football.

Here are some reasons Gaine might end up being the best fit:

* First and foremost, Gaine has an eye for talent. We are all screaming for the next GM to be a guy that can find great football players. Gaine can do that. There is talk he found Cam Wake in the CFL for instance. If the team is not looking for an overarching power broker in the GM post, Gaine is a fit an effective personnel boss that "works with others".
* He understands the dynamics between Joe Philbin and Dawn Aponte. Gaine could be promoted, allowed to pick the players and find an equilibrium within the FO. Without question Gaine already has a professional relationship already with Aponte. Therefore, there is no time wasted "getting to know" each other.
* I have said this since Philbin was hired, Gaine and Philbin have a common football nexus...Kirk Ferentz. Ferentz is one of Philbin's mentors and Gaine played for Ferentz at UMaine. I think they would work well with each other and find good football players that Philbin would feel he could coach up and utilize.
* Gaine was part of a turnarounds in New York and Dallas while he was with Bill Parcells.
* All this talk...and I have been a part of it...that the team has not had direction at the Senior Bowl is all for not because Gaine is there and already has an idea of what he wants to do.
* Finally, Gaine is very qualified to do this job. Other teams have been interested in him over the years as a case in point. Brian Gaine would be a solid selection and at the end of the day perhaps the best fit.
At first I wasn't too crazy about the idea but now they should go ahead and hire Gaine. If they fell, I don't think they wont,(staying positive) they can clean house once and for all.

Dolphins assistant GM Brian Gaine is a finalist for the Miami GM job and will interview a second time.

That means Gaine, Lake Dawson and Ray Farmer remain in the mix for the Dolphin GM job.

Good for Gaine. I bet Joe and Dawn support him.

Just saw that. Think it comes down to Gaine or Dawson

I have learned through this process that Nublar or Hayden supporting a candidate is the kiss of death for them getting the job

Ha ha

I agree.

I have said my "football compass" is the polar opposite of Steve Ross.

I would have cleaned house in 2010
I would have fired Ireland in 2012
I would have granted Jeff Fisher his GM
If that failed I would have picked McCoy
I would clean house and start anew now
I like Marc Ross...never interviewed
Mangini....
I think Gaine is the best fit under his current model...he won't get it. You are right. I am the kiss of death.

Yep, my favorite is apparently out of the picture. :(

You know what though, no matter who we get, you won't see me living in the past saying things like "Well, Farmer would have done this or that". Whoever they get won't be my first choice, but I am willing to give them a chance. As a fan of this team, what other option do I have?

I will be happy if it is Gaine. Gives the best chance next year. Mix in Mangini…whoa! LOL.

If Ross trusts Joe as much as he says he does, just promote Gaine.

Once again, I bump my thread from earlier this week…promote Brian Gaine.

He has always been the best fit based on the structure that Steve Ross has wanted (right or wrong). It would be a seamless transition and give the team the best chance to win next year.

Yet, with all the chasing of other GM's and people turning down the gig, if Gaine is promoted, Ross has effectively made Gaine look like sloppy seconds.

He should have been promoted earlier based on the FO structure in place and after tonight just give him the job and let us see what he can do.

I think he gives the best chance to win in the short-term.
