Why Ryan Cook vs....

Hate to burst some bubbles, but he really isn't "versatile". I mean, he is equally bad at all 5 positions on the line, if that's what you mean? Don't buy into hype like that from Vikings beat writers. They tend to be a "pom-pom crowd" if you know what I mean. The versatility myth was created by Brad Childress to justify us spending a 2nd round pick on him. He has never been effective at any position on the line. Even as a back-up. I wouldn't sign him to my PRACTICE team for the league minimum. Take that for what it's worth I guess.

All you people clammoring for Bryant McKinnie...where would he play? He's been in the league for 9 years are you going to put him at LT over Jake Long? Do you think he'll transition easily to RT? Are you the same people that thought putting Vernon Carey at RG was a good move? If you haven't noticed Carey has struggled at RG and Carey played a few games at Guard in college. McKinnie has never played any position but LT since his high school days. That would be pretty risky to sign a guy for a fairly expensive contract HOPING he would be able to play RT. Not to mention, do you really think McKinnie would sign with us if he knew we were playing him at RT? Did it ever occur to anyone he may not want to play RT?

As for Gurode, it should have been explored no question. But I've heard he's not 100% and his knees are shot. At least that's what the Cowboys people are saying, don't know how true it is.

Let me try to explain that better. Did we start him at all 3 positions at some point in his career? Yes, we did. However, we started him at RT, where he was AWFUL. More penalties than anyone I've ever seen, and he made #2 DEs look like Julius Peppers. So after that total failure, we moved him to RG. He couldn't pull because he is way too slow, and he got our QBs killed constantly. He is too slow to run block, and too incompetent to pass block. Finally, after two failed experiments at RT and RG, we tried him at center. It made a lot of sense considering that he was a college center and our starter John Sullivan was really struggling. He mishandled lots of snaps and got even more penalties at center than he did at tackle and guard! So we finally took him out of the starting line-up. After all 3 failed experiments, he was labeled as "versatile", because he had experience at all 3 positions for us. What isn't taken into consideration is that he was awful at all 3 positions. To me, that isn't versatility. It's experimenting with a struggling lineman. He plugged in mostly at back-up guard for us after that. And quickly lost his job to rookie Chris DeGeare. Who got cut the same time that Cook did.

You do NOT want him in Miami! We had trouble keeping him away from Miami as it was, because all of his friends live there. And he was constantly getting in trouble there. Miami would be the worst place for him. He sucks anyways. He is the laziest player in the NFL. He is the Albert Haynesworth of the offensive line. He is listed at 335, and came into camp at 396. He is Ozzie Newsome's problem now, and that should make you guys happy. If he wasn't lazy, he would have the potential to be one of the best in the game. But he is lazy, and he let C-list celebrities keep him from being a successful player. He should have retired and focused on his "record label".

335, lol. That was pretty kind...he must have used the same scale that Vince Wilfork uses cause I think he's listed at 325 and there's no way Vince is 325, that's at least 40 pounds underweight.

However, I did hear McKinnie saw the writing on the wall and lost a lot of weight and when he signed with Baltimore he was down to 345 but you just don't know how long that will last. He was motivated to lose weight to get signed...will he stay motivated? That's the big question.

No possible way he is 345. His realistic playing weight last year was 360. And he came into camp at 396. I don't think it would be possible for him to lose 50 pounds in like 3 weeks. He may have lost weight, but not 50 pounds.

Hey, I see today that one of our sentimental favorites around here, Greg Camarillo, agreed to a substantial salary decrease from his $1.7MM to sidestep the waiver wire. I'm always wishing that guy well. Hopefully McNabb will make him look good.

He sure did! And although we signed Devin Aromashaodu, Camarillo still beat him out for the #4 WR spot. He will get plenty of targets in Minnesota. Our first depth chart at WR looks like: Harvin, Berrian, Jenkins, Camarillo, Aromashaodu

Cook was last seen eating a lot of corn at a Midwest Corn boil and a Dolphin scout spotted him there. Therefore he is now a Dolphin.

If cook whiffs as much as carey and waters then we have a younger whiffer with more upside and prob doesnt have injury history.

Carey has struggled at RT and G. did u watch last year? they just figured they could take some money back and have him play a lessor position.

When a player is released from another team there are always negatives and flaws in said player. If you think Waters, O'Hara or Cook were going to be star players, you are wrong. Doesn't mean they can't help a new team, it just means that these guys are not perfect. Waters is not perfect, and neither is Cook. However, both do have positives and will help their new teams.

Of course fans of the former team are only going to zero on the negatives, that is just how it works. Cook is not walking into Miami as a starter, he is coming in as depth and someone who could step in at almost any position on the line. It is not ideal that he starts, but he could in a pinch.

This pretty much says it all... People act like every signing is strictly for the starters but fail to realize that you have to build a complete team and have depth. As a team you can not afford to have high priced backups and have to take players like Cook who are versatile and can play at multiple spots if a starter goes down. It is money well spent and sometimes with these guys a new coach can fix a flaw and help them better themselves.

The line is STILL not fixed in the four years Tony has been here. Unreal.

That should be the story.
