Why the love for Clemons

I'll hand you he drops picks, but not to go too traditional, SS is the run support lay the hard hits guy. Hence why Jones played in the box most of the season.

Exactly why he is not a fit for Coyle's defensive scheme. His safeties are supposed to be interchangeable with no real FS or SS. Not only is he weak with his tackles, he can't sniff out the ball carrier on run plays. The only thing he is decent at is coverage deep with good closing speed. And you even agree he can't make plays on the ball when he is in coverage. Sounds like he limited the role of Jones last year as an all around safety and playmaker, like we all know he can be.

I don't understand why people on here think Clemons is worth anything more then a 2nd string injury filler, he made zero plays last year and I'm also pretty sure he was the biggest loafer on that play where we almost lost to the steelers, guys a joke give me Delmas anyday
Because Clemons has served the team well without being stellar. Clemons and Jimmy Wilson were the DB leaders on the field who were skilled in setting all the DBs based on what they saw on the Offense. Make no mistake, Clemons is very good at organizing the other players and will be missed. While everyone fixates on his lack of interceptions and a lack of big physical hits to intimidate the WRs, what we will miss is the on-field organizing.
Hopefully someone will step up, but if the DBs start looking very disorganized and out of position, the true impact of Clemons' departure will be noticed. I really hope that he doesn't go to an AFC East competitor.

Drops easy picks, crap in run support, and doesn't lay the wood when he tackles. No receivers fear him. Oh yeah. And derp derp.

that hat may have been worth something some day had you only let tannehill sign it...

You have got to be kidding me. Clemons and Wilson were the masterminds to where other players were supposed to be on D, huh? Man, for some intelligent athletes they sure didnt make any plays on D. Clemons is a backup. I've watched that guy take horrible angles, drop easy ints and miss tackles. Who in the hell said he doesnt F up? A list of guys on D that will not be missed is an easy one: Clemons, Wilson and Wheeler. And Jones better have a bounce-back year or he will be on that list as well.

Dolphins fans consistently overrate the talent on the team. Delmas is significantly better than Clemons.

Got an NFL football with the old Dolphin logo with just Tannehills signature. NFL rookie symposium in LA. So I'm set if the other two don't pan out.

Who Delmas?!?! Awesome...

I'm not kidding. It comes up in the player interviews over and over again. While Grimes has the most natural talent and is the best DB, however, he is not the DB leader on the field. Most Dolphin fans would be shocked to learn that the natural leaders on the field were Clemons and Jimmy in the slot. In fact Jimmy Wilson is one of the few guys on our team who can really get under the skin of the opposing team.
Wheeler wouldn't be missed, he was a bad acquisition, but the other two guys would be. Presuming Clemons goes, I expect that Jimmy will stay. Primarily for his strength as an on the field leader.
In fact I would argue that one of the Dolphins biggest overall deficiencies last season was leadership (particularly on Offense) We need strong leaders in each position. It isn't just about who the best player is. In talent we stacked up pretty well against New England, but Brady is 6 miles ahead in leadership that he intimidates.

I'm not gonna shed any tears over a supposed leader of a defense that the best minds on this board could see was mentally weak, rarely playing up to their talent level for a full football game and worse, they often played their worst football when it hurt the most (3rd down, following an offensive score, end game). The number one thing this defense lacked this year wasn't talent, it was the ability to put their best football forward when it mattered most. It was leadership.

Just because a guy has emerged as a leader in the clubhouse doesn't mean he is the best guy for it. I've been in many workplaces and organizations where the people who were leaders and mentors moved on, and others who had been subordinate before stepped up and did a better job, they just didn't have the chance while somebody else was higher in the pecking order.

Intelligence needs to be on pre and post snaps. That's fantastic that they knew where everyone is supposed to line up but how about instincts, play recognition and making plays? Wilson AND Clemons lack that. Let's get some players that can be smart after the snap.
