We're we not told all off-season that competition for Henne would be brought in?

Did they not give us the impression that part of the return of Sparano to Miami was the caveat that the owner wanted competition for Henne?

Am I crazy or did we all have that impression?

So where is this competition? If its not Matt Moore then who is it?

Why is it now taboo to suggest Matt Moore is pushing for the starting position?

Clearly Moore outplayed Henne last night, whatever excuses you want to make or rationalizations aside, he outplayed him. Did I not hear Moore was named MVP of the game?

All I'm reading from local beat writers and shill beat writers(Cohen) is that we shouldn't be talking about this, that Henne is progressing, that there is no QB competition for the starting job.

What kind of a PR firm would have a team promise its fanbase that there would be QB competition all off-season, then when pre-season finally gets here tell us there is no competition? Tell us that after the first game, when the best QB they brought in outshined the prior incumbent, that we shouldn't be talking about Matt Moore as a possibility?

I don't get it, I was completely disapointed in the off-season they gave us. They drafted no Quarterbacks and probably passed on the guy that could have solved this longstanding problem (Mallett). Then they followed that up with failing to get the best QB options out there in free agency......settling for Matt Moore.

I don't want to get carried away with one performance, but I liked what I saw of this kid, when you review his career it's not too bad. 7-4 career starter, positive TD/INT ratio on a very poor Carolina team the last 4 years, things that Henne cannot match with his career so far.

So if the Henne of last night, which looked alot like the Henne of last year, and the year before, fails to be anything more than he has been?

Why shouldn't we give Matt Moore a fair chance at the starters position this year?

Another pathetic attempt by this regime to bargain shop forbade QB! With a fan base so desperate to find a real QB they will try anything!

Im with you. At the very least, Moore should get some first team reps in practice.

Right, I mean it was only one game, but his history isn't too bad. I don't want to get carried away but what do we have to lose?

We needed to bring in 2 qb's all along. One to compete with Henne for the starting job, and another to be the third stringer. The gm failed at getting a qb that was good enough to compete for the top job. They went after Moore to backup Henne, because we had no one else. The problem is that Henne has done very little to distinguish himself from his backup, aguy that should have been our 3rd stringer.

I disagree with that, Moore has a better history than Henne in Pro Football. Bringing him here ensured a QB competition would be the result unless Henne transformed into something he has never been.

Moore did look a bit better than Henne but of course that was mostly against the JV.

I hope that our gm would not go after a backup qb to compete for the starting spot, if so, where is the upgrade? Especially considering their swing and miss with Orton. The plan, I hope, was to bring KO to compete with Henne and Moore as the 3rd guy.

I understand, but in reality Matt Moore has been a starter in this league with a career winning record (7-4), so why shouldn't he have a shot?

Cheap, and to be honest, I think he can beat out Henne. I have tried to support Henne through all this but it is getting real hard to believe he can be a true #1 in the NFL.

I think this regime is looking to get one of the big 2 coming out in the draft next year, and knowing this, did not want to sign Orton to a long term mega deal. Now that early draft picks do not present a huge financial burden on teams, I can see us doing whatever it takes to move up to grab one of these guys in next years draft. We shall see.

The thing is, were we ever really told from the team that they would bring in competition for Henne? I don't think we really were, in fact we told exactly what is going on right now. I think the "Competition for Henne" was created by the fans and media and took on a life of it's own. I think Henne was always the plan.

Mike Dee on January 21st:

“Nobody’s given up on Chad. … Chad is a part of this team. We’re not talking about Chad past tense, we’re talking about him in present tense. How do we make him better? How do we bring in pieces to make the offense better?”

Jeff Ireland on January 25th:

“He’s shown some aggressive tendencies, and shown some exciting throws,” Ireland said. “Chad has all the ability in the world. We just have to put a plan together and an offense philosophy that fits Chad Henne and I think we’ll be able to do that.”

Stephen Ross on March 21st:

“You talk to people that really look at him, he has a lot of great skills. He has to continue to improve. He made some improvement in other areas. People are unhappy with some of the others. But I think he has the skills. It’s unfortunate that a lockout like this doesn’t help in working with him. But I’m optimistic that he’ll have the capability to really take us.”

Tony Sparano on March 22nd:

“From our end, does he deserve the opportunity? No question about it. There’s other players that are pretty good quarterbacks in this league, that if I remember correctly, like their first year in the league were 3-13 (Peyton Manning). So when you come in and you’re trying to get this thing done, all you have to do is you have to go back through the 900 and something snaps that this guy has played, and say, ‘Did he show progress, did he get better in different areas? And yes, he did.’”

“What you’re trying to do is develop young players, and I realize that the quarterback position everyone wants to happen yesterday. Sometimes Chad, he gets hit over the head with a baseball bat through some of this, but it comes with the nature of the position.”

Didn't really sound like anyone in the front office talked about replacing or even finding someone to compete with him. The plan all along appeared to improve the team around Henne and give him more weapons. They added Clyde Gates, Charles Clay, Mike Pouncey, Marc Colombo, Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush. They are attempting to solidify the interior line, re-did the running back position and added speed with Gates and Bush, which was really lacking last season.

I know everyone says that Miami failed to live up to the promise of adding a QB to overtake or compete with Henne, but my question is, when did THEY actually say that? Not sure they did.

Oh he should be given a shot. Heck, I want the best player to play even if it's Devlin. Gotta be honest here, before we got him on our team I had never heard of Matt Moore, and I follow football fairly closely. He may have been 7-4, but I don't think he is considered a starting caliber QB. Not sure Henne is starting caliber either at this point, but Henne has been our starter for a couple years and Matt "7 and 4" Moore is not near the upgrade that KO or any of the other available qb's would have been.

I hope our front office's first choice, out of all the available qb's to compete to be our starting QB, was NOT Matt Moore. Pretty much all they have been saying since Moore was picked up is that Henne is our starter.

Not saying Moore shouldn't be given a shot I was just hoping for someone more accomplished and with a better pedigree....

I do not thing Sparano will promote Moore over Henne ... saw that last year ... and that's what will get Sparano fired, almost did already.

I think Henne may promote Moore ... the fans & owner will get fed up & start the Orton chant for Moore.

I think the O-Line may promote Moore ... they'll cause the run to evaporate & pass-blocking is a ticking time bomb ... I think this is how Moore gets in the game.

Well 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Not that high on Moore ... maybe the mess will FINALLY get a REAL QB next year. Tick-Tick-Tick!!!

I don't really remember them saying it. They've fully committed their careers to Chad Henne. Good luck to them. They're going to need it.

If they fail miserably enough to have a draft pick that would net one of the big two, then they should and probably would be fired, and therefore will not be around to enjoy the fruits of their failure.
