Why would anyone take Pitts over Smith?

No, he's not...

I've advocated for this before... Once Covid is over and we can have combines again... anyone who ducks a drill, goes home... immediately.

You only get to come to the combine if you agree to run ALL of the drills.

This bullshit of ducking the drills where you know you'll fail... has gotten way to prevalent, and much too obvious.

Now, this won't help us with Smith this year, but because of his actions, I am going to guess that he weighs... maybe... 165 when he plays, and loses speed when he tries to gain weight, because this is what his ACTIONS tell me.

At that weight, I think he'll have problems in the NFL with their 20 game season, bigger and stronger players, and parity of team strength. And I don't think that this is an unreasonable prediction...

I have him as a second rounder who'll do almost all of his damage outside the 20 yard line. A good, but not great player... Yes, Will Fuller seems apt. If he gives you more... bonus!

I don't hate him, I just think that he is the most overrated prospect in this draft.

Smith will be a bust.

He is a tight end. What we classify in a playbook as an f type tight end. We can line him up in the slot in any part of the field. Which we can disguise run plays also. He puts effort into blocking but blocking isnt something that we expect from these type of tight ends. He would be a great end zone threat.
That's why Mack Hollins would have to be the odd man out unless we're down to run 5 TE's. I'd much rather keep Smythe and Shaheen at that point because of their blocking. 2 TE sets with Gesicki and Pitts on the field would be so nasty.
That being said, he can play anywhere and we have more of a hole as of now at WR than TE's though roster wise. I was thinking we go into the season with 6 WR and 4 TE's but I may be wrong.. We could end up going into the season with 5 WR's and 5 TE's, don't know if that matters that much or not.

WR: Parker, Fuller, Bowden, Preston (Camp battle for the 5th WR)
TE: Gesicki, Pitts, Smythe, Shaheen, Hollins

I LOVE... LOVE this time of year. I think I prefer it to the actual season. I love the team-building stuff, and I love to debate.

A lot of folks here don't really understand those of us with open minds, they think anyone who disagrees with them is attacking them personally, and this just isn't what I'm into.

There are... maybe... 5 or 6 people on this entire web site that I don't care for, and even some of the ones who I always disagree with seem to be really cool guys... I wish this didn't get so ugly, so often.

Ya know?
Well that's because most years recently the offseason has been the best time to be a Dolphins fan.

I want to know if we do draft Pitts would we list him as a TE or WR. At TE we do have Gesicki, Smythe, Shaheen, and Mack Hollins as of now. If we list him as a TE one of them will be gone and my pick would be Hollins.
Hollins isn't a TE....

Smith has outperformed him every year!
Well as we know ones a TE and the others a WR. Good WRs come out every single year. Pitts is a once in a ....highest ranked te prospect ever. Having 2 TEs opens up the offense a lot more then adding chase or blah or blam. Pitts is a nightmare matchup and a better route runner then Smith. This isn't up for discussion. There's 2 extremely unique players in this draft. Sewell and Pitts. I'll take either one at 6 and say we won the draft. Pitts faced harder competition then Sewell did also.

Pitts over Smith IMO. Smith is too damn small and doesn’t have blazing speed. Why add a small wr to a group of often hurt receivers. I’m 6’3 and 197 lbs and I feel too small to play NFL ball.

Smith has consistently excelled on the field and just this year he was the first WR to win the Heisman Trophy in 30 years. Half of FH just fixates on Smitty's slight stature but the reality is that he has proven over and over that he can separate from physical DBs with his natural agility. In every game in college and high school, he probably had opponents who set out to blow him up and they failed. In addition, he has proven chemistry catching balls from Tua.
Yes, Pitts is a great TE prospect and will probably be a big success in the NFL, but the Dolphins bigger need is an elite quality WR. The Dolphins TE trio of Mike Gesicki, Durham Smythe and Adam Shaheen just happened to be coming off the most productive season ever by Miami Dolphins TEs - check the stats.
My message to all readers is don't focus on Smith's body - focus on his body of work. There is a pretty good chance that he is going to be the pick.

“When we recruited Smitty he weighed 159 pounds, and I’ll be honest I wished he was bigger. Now he weighs 170 and I’m sure there’s a lot of NFL people the next level that wish he was bigger.”

Saban said it best today. He goated.
