Why would anyone take Pitts over Smith?

I thought he was a guy who had the perfect size to play in the NFL. A bit raw, but a very good wide receiver prospect. Wherever he goes I will keep an eye on him. He decided not to play in 2020 because of the direction of the team, and just stayed in school.

Waddle at 18 would be more justified IMO. With that said Fever one of the things people don't talk about here is that our front office is the type to end up putting that 6 overall on a defensive prospect instead of an offensive one. Would you be agreeable to us drafting Parsons?

That is true, but he has Chase like size and speed. Just not the same route runner.

Well people are talking too much about separation. Is not the separation that makes Pitts such a great player, is his ability to grab passes on the top of a bunch of defenders. At 6'6 he has a very good advantage in the goal line as a receiver of course. He's also an underated blocker as well.

There's a lot of room between elite and bust.

Smith is not my first choice, but I have seen nothing to indicate he will be a bust bust.

I have no idea if you are an "idiot" or not, but you are extreme at times.....lol

The Fins have a full TE room they appear to be happy with.

1. The Fins have Mike Gesicki, their leading TE, who is on a rookie contract.

3. Durham Smythe who they re-signed to a new contact.
4. They just acquired Cethan Carter.
5. And they have Chris Myarick on the practice squad.


Don't get me wrong, I lLIKE Pitts. He's rare talent at TE, size/speed is phenomenal, and he had NO DROPS. Adding him will give the Fins an incredible 12 man package that could be reminiscent of the days when the Pats had Gronk and Aaron Hernandez. But I don't see this happening after watching the team's moves and statements made in the media over the offseason.

In addition, I don't believe they'll take Jamar Chase with the sixth pick as some experts project, because the Fins were quoted saying they are not considering players who did not play last season. Now, could this be a smoke screen, MAY BE, BUT....

When Coach Flo was coaching at the Senior Bowl, it was reported Coach Flo loved DeVonta Smith; and when a reporter talked about DeVonta Smith's size (or lack thereof), Coach Flo appeared slightly agitated at that mention and got defensive, stating his (D. Smith) size didn't matter because he was still productive, even on the big stage.

I believe the Fins traded back into the 6th because they really like both Bama Wr's and know they will have a shot to drafting one of them.

Agreed with everything you said, but I'd add one note. There has been rumors that Smythe's medicals have made the rounds to several teams. It could be nothing, but it could also mean they are contemplating a trade that would thin out the TE room a bit.

I mean let's be realistic here. How many prospects with the weight he is packing have actually had a great career in the NFL in the last two decades. The numbers don't lie at all. I can give Chase the benefit of the doubt. For Waddle in spite of his injuries at least he has tools, but is he a Steve Smith? Is Smith a Julio Jones? We don't know for sure but it would concern me if we end up drafting him. Based on the size of the receivers we been drafting at least it relieves me to know that we probably are not going to look that way. If we are drafting a wide receiver we are more likely to go for someone like Chase. Safest route at the end of the day is drafting a solid skilled player like Pitts, but I wouldn't be opposed to drafting Parsons also.
 
A prototype is a guideline for someone that doesn't know what they're doing.

Football isn't played by prototypes.
 
I guess Im an idiot too since I have called Smith a bust waiting to happen for a while. Theres no denying he was great last year and deserved the Heismann, but the NFL is full of faster and bigger players than he had faced in college and I feel after some NFL hits he may not see the field much. Bust is extreme, I agree, I just dont see him delivering enough value given his draft position.

Pitts and Gesicki would be fun to watch with Parker and Preston on the outside and a shiny new RB for Tua to finish it off? I wouldnt put it past Grier to move the 18 pick and that SF pick in 2023 to get back up to top 10 if someone drops.

Well, people can talk about how many light years better NFL DB's are than those in college, but rookie WR's like Justin Jefferson keep making the people perpetrating this garbage look like idiots.

If NFL DB's were that much better, NFL teams wouldn't have to keep looking to the college ranks every year to find some that can play.

Jefferson would have slipped to the second round had minnesota not drafted him. Experts thought he was just a solid two or three but your crimson tide boy was drafted first with clearly high expectations because of his combine numbers.

NFL teams are run by people that don't know what they're doing. They prove that to you over and over again but you just tell yourself that you don't get it.

Jeudy had a good rookie year, especially considering he was stuck with a stiff like Drew Lock. Yeah I know a lot of experts that tried to tell you how great he was too.
