Will people BELIEVE in this team if they beat the Patriots in Week 1?

Some fans wouldn't believe in this team even if we won the Superbowl...

Reverse question: After we get slaughtered...will the homers wake up?

You deserve the fan of the year award. SMDH. Way to be supportive of your team. So I guess whomever is optimistic about this season has to be a homer in your eyes. Red light means go..

I remember a few years ago the Bills came out and put a whoopin on the Pats 31-3 in the opener, only for the Pats to go on and win the superbowl.

You can't take anything from a week 1 game.

It was actually 31-0 BUF beat NE and then NE beat BUF 31-0 the last week of the reg season en route to the Super Bowl win.

I'm suprised more of you wouldn't consider it a huge win and a statement game, Jets fans would be pre ordering their Super Bowl tickets.

Brady had some rough games down there, the heat kills us I'm glad the game is at night. We have been running a pressure based 4-3 instead of our "read and react" 3-4 so we could be vunerable to a good running team especially early on, we'll see how your rookie RB does.

Naw, see, we got used to beating you over the years. We gonna let our goons loose on Brady again.

Well the new kickoff rule should help. Don't let them return it!

It would draw attention to the Dolphins right away, but following it up with 2 losses would make it seem like a fluke win over a divisional opponent which happens for teams every year.

I expect them to at least split with the Patriots and Jets. The past two seasons the Phins have beaten the tough teams. They lost to the Browns, Lions and Bills at home last season. Win 2 of those you're 9-7 and fans have a much more positive outlook on the team. The Dolphins need to be consistent like they were in 2008, which they'll have to prove by beating the teams they should beat. Following up wins against the Packers, Jets, Patriots with losses to last place teams is weird. Henne has a consistency issue, maybe he'll fix it, we'll see.

By the way, nice to see a Patriots fan here. I hope you sweep the Jets and I hope we sweep the Jets. I want them to miss the playoffs. If the Dolphins go 9-7 and finish in 2nd and ahead of the Jets, but miss the playoffs I'd actually be somewhat satisfied. Making the playoffs would be nice though.

It would just be a great start and infuse some optimism for many. I wont think this team is better than the patriots or will win their division unless then win 6 of the 1st 8. Then I would be real excited and think they are the real deal! I already believe they are going to win 9 games!

With all due respect, and I say that lightly......that is a completely ignorant statement.

Winning the Superbowl is what this all about...so obviously if they win a championship they have accomplished what this is all about!

Just because some are tired of mulitple LOSING seasons, whilst you can accept that blindly, doesn't make those fans morons, and unable to recognize winning the ultimate prize.

Remember when we beat the vikings last year!!! OMG WE WERE SO GOOD!!! I hope people notice us.

Most insecure fan base that isn't located in Toronto.

It would absolutely mean something. As long as it's not a win that we only score 10 and we win because of our defense. If we put up over 20 points on them and win it will mean something 100%.

It's pretty funny.....EVERY person on here that is saying it wouldn't matter or they don't care if we win would be bleeding Orange and Teal out of their eyes by the end of that game, but the next day would be on here talking like it didn't matter and acting like they are just so level headed and realistic (negative).

If we win against the Bucs and Cowboys convincingly, with the first teamers leading the way in both games and Henne playing well, THEN we go and beat the Pats, playing well on offense and defense - I will start to believe this team has a playoff run in it.

That would be four games in a row, good consistency, arguably a "tougher schedule" than the average run of regular season games (yeah, I know they're just preseason games)... I wouldn't be mortgaging the house but I'd be a lot more positive that the flashes of serious progress we have seen to date are signs of a concrete improvement in team performance.

Does a win make a statement no matter what? Or would they have to stomp the Patriots in order to make believers out of people?

I'm sure that would help but remember you were 2-0 last year and you beat the Pats 2 years ago. A good start is nice but the best teams get better later in the season.

A win would show the Dolphins can win at home. Something they failed to do all but once last year. If the Dolphins go 6-2 at home like most good teams and 4-4 away, they'll make the playoffs. If they went 4-4 last year at home, they would have made the playoffs. Losing at home the way they did says more about the coaching staff then it does about the quality of players which I feel is solid. And though TS is still head coach, there have been some changes to the offensive staff which should be enough to tip the balance at home in many of the games. I like what Brian Daboll is bringing to the offense and I like his play calling. I'm glad Lee is no longer QB coach. Even Dorell who has no prior experience at the position is an upgrade. Isn't Ike Hilliard an assistant WR coach? I think he'll be helpful.
One thing no one on this site is mentioning is how willing TS is with changing his offensive philosophy. Men his age are usually stubborn. Parcells and Henning were and still are. Remember when Coughlin had to change because his drill sergeant routine wasn't getting it done with today's players? It ended in a Super Bowl. I'm not saying that will happen, but I've seen that when one is willing to change to get the job done, good things happen. Now, if only Jeff Ireland will change with an increasied desire to get a franchise QB....

You can't give me due respect then say my statement is ignorant, it doesn't work that way. You're speaking for a lot of ignorant fans when you make a blanket statement like that.

If we won, I would bet a lot of money that we would still have fans that say "That was a fluke" and "No way can we repeat" and "This regime sucks" and "No way we can repeat with <insert name here> at <insert position here>. I think you underestimate the fans of this forum, unless you are one of those fans...
