With #7 Pick We Select Derrick Johnson

I wouldn't mind having DJ at all. I just think either Williams has a better/longer term effect on the team. Caddy I think has an immediate impact where as Mike Williams might also but I think his value comes over the lifetime of his skills....basically I think Mike Williams will have a longer career than DJ. Of course that's just guessing, I have no proof of that. I do however believe that a LB has a shorter career playing in 3-4 def than a 4-3. There was an article written on that a few years back when Pitt was dominating (still very good) and being the only 3-4 team at the time..until Carolina entered the league. On that note you could possibly uses Pitts LBs as an example...they dominate for a 3-4 year period and then MANY of them endure a littany of injuries. Of course, that's no definitive proof since all players are physically different but interesting none the less. blah blah blah.:)

That is interesting, but my main reason actually for wanting DJ with the 7 is that if Houck fixes our OLine like I think he will then what we have should get the job done. If he doesnt get it fixed then none of the big 3 in my opinion have a chance except to get hammered like Gordon did. At least DJ would be able to get in there and play and with Seau coming off of an injury and with his age how long is he going to be good for?

I mean I havent seen any clips of the big 3 RB's where their OLine fell apart and there were 2 DLineman on them as soon as they got the ball. They all had outstanding lines at outstanding schools when they played. Is a lot more even in the NFL.

you make a valid point. I do believe that this will be Seau's last season with us...likely his career. In addition to DJ though I think a Blackstock will be a very good pro. I simply don't think DJ will have the impact that a guy like Derrick Thomas had, who was drafted that high or even an Arrington (without the injuries) had to begin his career. I do think DJ will be the best LB in this years draft (yes, better than Merriman who I think has high pick genius/bust written all over him) but I believe a guy like Blackstock taken in the 2nd, provided we can get a high 2nd pick, will be just a notch below DJ and not have that high draft pick stigma attached to him...basically better value IMO.

I think IF we trade down with the Vikings and pick D.J. at #7 I'd miss the rest of the draft because I'd throw myself off my balcony and plummet to my death.

:roflmao: :yeahthat:

I like Rolle / Pac-Man for CB at #7 (if Surtain is traded) or Williamson/Williams to help fill in the WR spot at #7 (i know most have Williamson going past 10...but many also believe he may be the best out of the draft in 5 years as well...to each his own i suppose).

Let me guess, you think Cedric Benson is our only choice this year right? Or a RB at the very least?.....OK jump, because your clueless. DJ would be a great choice at #7. I guess a speedy tackling machine on the weak side would be something that wouldn't interest you. Saban's a D guy get used to it.

I think if we for some odd reason don't end up choosing a RB with the #7 we should get Derrick Johnson. I think he will be a beast in the pro's. Our LB's are alright now but to be honest Zach Attack and Seau are both on their way out. It would be nice to see a young talented LB in the mix.

In all respects I think we need to draft a RB at #7 but we wont be far off if we draft DJ!

what do you think?

The one thing that scares me about DJ is that it is reported that he tries to run around blocks instead of thru them...something that he could get away with in college, but won't be able to in the pros...It is also a trait that Saban does not like in his LBing...But athletically, the guy is a specimen at LB...

I watch the Draft Specials everyday, and it seems like we can find QUALITY runningbacks and Quarterbacks later on in the draft. And i still like my money on Matt Leinart for next year. But if we get #7 and #18, i wouldnt mind seeing Derrick Johnson (LB) and Travis Johnson (DT FSU) being selected for us. Our linebackers Corps is good.....we have Zach Thomas, Junior Seau, Derrick Pope, and Donnie Spragan. Junior Seau is getting old, Donnie Spragan isnt THAT great.....so having another linebacker wouldnt be bad. But think about it, we selected Eddie Moore last year thinking he was great....but he kinda sucks. As for DT, Tim Bowens will retire soon, and Larry Chester is gonna be injured a long time....so we could use a good, young DT.

As for QBs...we can find ourselves Frye, Campbell, McPherson, Orton in the 3rd round. For runningbacks, we can find Darren Sproles in the 4th round. IF we get a 2nd rounder for Surtain, we can get an OL (David Baas) in the 2nd round.

But like the guy said yesterday, we cant lose in this draft. I dont care who we pick, we CANT lose...Ronnie, Braylon, Alex, Heath, Merriman, Johnson will all be fine by me

damn at the possiblities of 7 and 18, makes me foam at the mouth... 7 we prob still have a shot at 1 of the RBs maybe 2 if another one slips... mike williams, troy williamson, DJ, merriman, maybe rolle or pac-man one of the 2 definately, then at 18... we could grab thomas davis! or mark clayton, travis johnson, maybe carlos rodgers... wow this is gonna get interesting...

If we wind up with #7 and #18, I'd hope for:

#7 - Cadillac Williams
#18 - Marcus Spears, Mark Clayton, or Marlin Jackson

X-con, I love that sig. DWade is a BEAST!!

If we drop to 7, I say take the best RB still on the board. No way I take DJ.

Yaa, another Derrick Johnson at <insert top 10, our first pick int he draft, slot here>

He won't go till at least mid 1st, and isn't even the best overall LB prospect in the draft

If we picked DJ at #7, we lose! Just say NO to DJ.
