Wayne Fontes was Rasputin. Every other week ownership threw down the gauntlet. "Lose this weekend and you're fired". Well, he kept hanging on. :)
John McKay gets alot of play here. Went 44-88 in nine seasons as Bucs coach. His Bucs lost their first 26 games, an NFL record. Averaged 4 wins a season.
In fact, I nominate any Buccaneers coach prior to the hiring of Sam Wyche. Wyche never did better than 7-9. But he did go to a Super Bowl in Cincy, coming oh so close to beating the Niners.
Leeman Bennet had a respectable showing in ATL. But after taking over for McKay, he posted a standout 4-28 clip. Ray Perkins also gets lots of play here. Went 23-34 with the Giants. Five years later he took that greatness to the Buccaneers, resurrecting them them in the form of 19-41. Then there was Richard Williamson. 4-15 for the mighty Bucs.
And THAT'S when they went out and got their man. Only three years removed from the big game, Wyche transformed that excellence into 23-41 for the Orange and White.
