Sorry to be blunt here, but your opinion of not liking Philbin's coaching style has nothing to do with whether he'll be successful or not.
I hate Belichick's coaching style and how he walks around like a douche bag and doesn't show sportsmanship after games and countless other things, but that doesn't matter.
Fact is, we have no idea what Philbin is actually like besides what we've seen depicted in the media and in random interviews/videos. You, like I, have no idea what kind of work or preparation he actually does behind the scenes and we have no idea what his relationship is like with the players. And you know what? We never will. So try not to base an opinion off what little information you have and understand that all of the information in that defense will never be available, and unless he's our uncle or something, we'll never actually know what person he is in day to day life and how it impacts the men in that locker room.
From your stand point, no one has the right to make an opinion on any coach or player. OF COURSE we can't know what we don't know, even if he WAS our uncle. You can't know the heart of another person even if you spend every day with them. I have a nephew that I used to be in a racing league with, saw him several times a week. Then one day he snaps and sets his son and wife of fire, killing them both. I never could have believed he was capable of something like that but he is now doing life for it. It is impossible for us to ever know the heart of another person no matter how much time we spend with them.
But we can, and should, make opinions on what information we DO have. We certainly have enough information by now to know whether or not we like or dislike Philbin's coaching style. If not by now then when, five years after he dies?? It should be obvious to anyone reading, that when someone says he likes, or dislikes, someone's coaching style that it is only based on the information that individual has at his disposal. We make much bigger decisions about others we meet every day with a lot LESS information. It is said from a scientific stand point that the average human female will decide if she would copulate with a member of the opposite sex within the first 15 seconds of verbal interaction. I think we have enough infor on Philbin by now to make a much more general proclamation, of being pro or con Philbin.
