Would we have been better resigning our own?

Sorry to be blunt here, but your opinion of not liking Philbin's coaching style has nothing to do with whether he'll be successful or not.

I hate Belichick's coaching style and how he walks around like a douche bag and doesn't show sportsmanship after games and countless other things, but that doesn't matter.

Fact is, we have no idea what Philbin is actually like besides what we've seen depicted in the media and in random interviews/videos. You, like I, have no idea what kind of work or preparation he actually does behind the scenes and we have no idea what his relationship is like with the players. And you know what? We never will. So try not to base an opinion off what little information you have and understand that all of the information in that defense will never be available, and unless he's our uncle or something, we'll never actually know what person he is in day to day life and how it impacts the men in that locker room.

From your stand point, no one has the right to make an opinion on any coach or player. OF COURSE we can't know what we don't know, even if he WAS our uncle. You can't know the heart of another person even if you spend every day with them. I have a nephew that I used to be in a racing league with, saw him several times a week. Then one day he snaps and sets his son and wife of fire, killing them both. I never could have believed he was capable of something like that but he is now doing life for it. It is impossible for us to ever know the heart of another person no matter how much time we spend with them.

But we can, and should, make opinions on what information we DO have. We certainly have enough information by now to know whether or not we like or dislike Philbin's coaching style. If not by now then when, five years after he dies?? It should be obvious to anyone reading, that when someone says he likes, or dislikes, someone's coaching style that it is only based on the information that individual has at his disposal. We make much bigger decisions about others we meet every day with a lot LESS information. It is said from a scientific stand point that the average human female will decide if she would copulate with a member of the opposite sex within the first 15 seconds of verbal interaction. I think we have enough infor on Philbin by now to make a much more general proclamation, of being pro or con Philbin.

I would have kept Soliai, Carroll and Clemons

It was particularly dumb not to make Carroll an offer, he signed for the eagles dirt cheap, at the very least he would have been excellent depth

while i agree on carroll, did you not see what soliai signed for in ATL, it was absurd, no way we matched that.

Our run defense is weaker now than last year with loosing Paul S. I question our defensive backfield is more questionable than last year with loosing 2 healthy guys and one part time shut down corner and picking up 2 guys with creaky knees who spent last season or 2 on IR with perspective teams. Offensive line what a mess we have 2 starters and while we may have had some guys miscast on last year Oline we had the same center as this year, 2 returning guards one who may the all pro team, a high 2nd round pick playing left tackle and a former all pro playing right tackle. Let's face it we currently cannot protect the QB or stop the run and our backfield makeover is questionable. So the draft should, OL, OL, LB, S, OL, RB. Yea I would have resigned Jerry, Carrol and Clemons for sure they were cheap, passed on the 2 DBS we signed, gone harder after a FA guard and LB and may have tried to hold onto Paul S a little harder. That would have left us with a tackle position to fill in the draft along with a guard probably and after that the best player available . Right now this is a strict need draft for us and it's all about the offensive line and that is going to work against us.

Interesting point on the ladies makes one wonder how they determine that but hey you gotta like the odds if you make it past the first date.

I disagree. You don't read the first 15 pages of a book just to decide whether it was a bad story or not. There's a lot Philbin does that we don't see, and there's a lot on the surface that doesn't equate to what he actually does as a coach. We can have our opinions. I certainly have mine.

That's also a bad example. I'm sorry to hear about your cousin/family. I don't think that has much to do with how Philbin handles his coaching duties, though. That deals with a person's psyche, whereas I'm just referring to what he does behind the scenes in the facility as opposed to what we see as outsiders.

Ultimately, the performance on the field matters. Looking at the first two years, you're right, this story isn't exciting so far. And without a big improvement in 2013, I'd side with you about Philbin. I do believe that he'll have this team playing better ball in 2013. Just like many coaches, it all comes down to the QB (who I also believe in).

Also if we would have kept Dansby and Burnett they wouldn't have cost the same as the "resign" price after they were cut.

I do think that perhaps resigning Long + Bush may have been > Albert + Moreno

Let's be brutally honest here. Our own haven't exactly been tearing up the world. On a team that has gone five years without a winning season I think it is safe to say that there is no one who is indispensable.

Are you worried bout the money spent or the people signed? Either way..it was the linebackers signings that ruined Miami last year. It was uncalled for and proved disastrous. Wallace signing is well worth it so is this years Albert signing, they are necessary moved. But we were worried Irie would phuc thins up and he did.

Please explain how the Mike Wallace signing has been "well worry it"? You make it sound as if its a bargain and this far has paid dividends. No matter what anyone's excuse is for why Wallace didn't produce more last year you still argue that what he makes is "we'll worth it". Guy is greatly overpaid

Granted they have not 'tore up the world' but constant change will never bring success. New GM, New HC etc creates constant turnover and another team in a rebuild process.

Why not keep the players who perform. Clemons and Carroll were no pro bowlers but solid players who played about what they earn. If they were Steelers, Packers or a Raven, they would have been retained.

Good shout. I think he could have been restructured to a $2.5m contract and I'd take that. Just consider we payed Finnegan more than what we could have had both Patterson & Carroll for.

Carroll sucked and Patterson was always hurt which means he sucks too.

Chris Clemons signed for 2 yrs $2.7m. We signed an injury prone replacement for $3.5!!!!

We signed an injury prone, aggressive, hard hitting replacement that is capable of tackling. We need the aggressive hard hitters since we have been too passive in the secondary. I would rather take a chance of injuries than have the known always passive Clemons.

I didn't say we should destroy the world. I said that nobody should be untouchable. What the new GM should be doing is finding the solid players who are not overpaid for their contributions and separating them from those whose contributions are not equal to their cost. Unfortunately due to cap hits it will take Hickey several years to remove the poison that was Jeff Ireland from the Miami Dolphins.
