WR Roster Watch

with garners versatility i'd almost put that in pen that he makes the 53...the left tackle stuff is auto fail there but the swing interior and right tackle in a pinch means good luck beating it out for a active on gameday depth slot...

jeff janis if thats the small school white kid i saw at the senior bowl he wouldnt beat out any of our top 5 wrs...it's like a poor poor mans jared abbrederis and he wouldn't beat out any of our top 5 either

i also heard some scuttlebutt that gibson may be placed on ir to start the season...and frankly that would make sense to me if he's not full go come training camp...would allow us to get jarvis landry some run in the slot and mathews more run also and gibby could come back around the bye week...would also allow us like 6 weeks in season to take a look at someone else

assuming he's not ready for full contact come say preseason game 3...

are you talking half-season IR? it wouldn't make sense to sit him the entire year, would it

yeah the short version...i think it's like 6 weeks or 8 weeks or something...i would absolutely entertain it if he's not full go come final dress rehearsal preseason game...he's gonna be a bit behind the 8 ball on this new offense anyways field work wise might as well if he is limited still let him take it at his pace...

you got other slot options...and once landry gets run it's gonna be damn hard to take snaps away from him

activated after week 8, practice after week 6

I agree with most of this - your logic is good. I doubt that Marcus Thigpen makes the roster. He has to really light it up in Training Camp.

I kinda feel we went a bit WR crazy in the offseason. With this many guys, I feel like there won't be enough reps for each guy to make his case. I'd sure love to have seen us having any where this many linebackers competing for jobs, OR offensive linemen for that matter.

I also see Egnew Vs Sims as THE camp battle for a roster spot. Whoever loses this probably goes bye-bye, unless they both outshine the new kid (Lynch) badly and he gets put on the PS and doesn't get pilfered by another team.

i'm thinking the same thing, but with Binns making the 53 and Hazel being put on the practice squad.

Yup, that would be my receiver roster, but we will be keeping only 5 not 6, so either Matthews does not make it, or Gibson is put on IR.

Rishard Matthews
Brandon Gibson

Brian Hartline
Jarvis Landry
Mike Wallace
Armon Binns

Matt Hazel (PS)

Teams always bring in a ton of WRs...players will sperate themselves once camp starts and the pads come on..

Sims will win the battle IMO...

Unless some camp scrub WOW's everyone.

Set 5

Wallace
Hartline
Gibson
Landry
Matthews

If we keep 6, Binns or Hazel

If we keep 6, Thigpen is gone as PR/KR.

Tupac. Your roster looks pretty close to what I'm thinking. I'd swap out Binns for Thiggy. I'd probably put a 9th d lineman in there. I'd have to figure out where I'd take away a slot from though. I didn't look at every roster slot carefully but I'd say we are close.

Hazel will be placed on ps.

IF we keep 5 active, my game time starters will be the obvious receivers, but in this order:

Wallace
Hartline
Matthews
Gibson
Landry

I just don't believe that Matthews is in the dog house any longer or he wouldn't have said anything about it, like he did. That's over and I think he'll be the slot receiver this year.

Hazel won't make it to practice squad. Would be shocked.

yea, he was actually the last one i placed on the roster. i chose him because of position flexibility and obviously contributions in the return game. and i have a bit of a soft spot for him because of the TD last year against NE.

i am thinking that these WRs are a bit over valued by some people. the vets such as Armon Binns, Damian Williams, Stephen Williams, and Kevin Cone obviously couldn't stick with their former teams for a reason. they may flash here and there throughout camp and preseason but i am thinking these guys fall more into the Marvin McNutt / Marlon Moore / Julius Pruitt / Brandon London type guys of yester-year.
