WR Roster Watch

I know this is dumb and wayyyyyyy too premature to do this, but here is what I would to for the 53 and the 8 man PS.

3 QB:
Ryan Tannehill
Matt Moore
Pat Devlin

4 RB:
Knowshon Moreno
Lamar Miller
Daniel Thomas
Marcus Thigpen

5 WR:
Mike Wallace
Brian Hartline
Brandon Gibson
Rishard Matthews
Jarvis Landry

4 TE:
Charles Clay
Dion Sims
Michael Egnew
Arthur Lynch

9 OL:
Mike Pouncey
Branden Albert
Ja'Wuan James
Shelley Smith
Nate Garner
Dallas Thomas
Billy Turner
Jason Fox
Sam Brenner

8 DL:
Cameron Wake
Randy Starks
Earl Mitchell
Olivier Vernon
Jared Odrick
Dion Jordan
Derrick Shelby
Anthony Johnson

7 LB:
Dannell Ellerbe
Koa Misi
Philip Wheeler
Jelani Jenkins
Jordan Tripp
Jason Trusnik
Jonathan Freeny

10 DB:
Brent Grimes
Cortland Finnegan
Jamar Taylor
Will Davis
Walt Aikens
Reshad Jones
Louis Delmas
Jimmy Wilson
Don Jones
Michael Thomas

3 ST:
Caleb Sturgis
Brandon Fields
John Denney

8 PS:
Mike Gillislee
Matt Hazel
Gator Hoskins
Tyler Larsen
Terrence Fede
A. J. Francis
Anthony Gaitor
Jordan Kovacs

I would dump Egnew and replace with Hoskins. Dump Devlin and put Brock Jensen on the PS. Dump Daniel Thomas for Gillislee. And move Thigpen to the WR group. That would leave a roster spot for either Francis or Hazel, can Hazel return kicks? And we would still have an open PS spot.

yea, he was actually the last one i placed on the roster. i chose him because of position flexibility and obviously contributions in the return game. and i have a bit of a soft spot for him because of the TD last year against NE.

i am thinking that these WRs are a bit over valued by some people. the vets such as Armon Binns, Damian Williams, Stephen Williams, and Kevin Cone obviously couldn't stick with their former teams for a reason. they may flash here and there throughout camp and preseason but i am thinking these guys fall more into the Marvin McNutt / Marlon Moore / Julius Pruitt / Brandon London type guys of yester-year.

I thought last year they should have used Thigpen in the backfield in passing situations. I thought he was a good weapon in the flat. With Moreno here filling that role I think that really dooms Thigpen.

Brock Jensen will be in a Dolphin jersey.

Thigpen is expendable, we have Landry who is 10X the player on ST.

Don't get all this love for Hazel.

Hoping egnew is wearing red and gold next year... a McDonald's uniform. ANY of the wr's is worth keeping over him. Lynch will be a surprise.

I think most of you are understating Egnew in this offense. Athletically he is by far the most gifted we have and for once we aren't asking him to only do his weakness. Also his showing as a FB last year will also help keep him on the roster with some role versatility just like Clay. I think we keep 4 TEs no matter what. Egnew to me is a guy that I think could surprise many now that he is being split out wide and allowed to use his athleticism in space against either smaller guys or slower guys.

I'm thinking we keep 6 WR's this year. Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Matthews, Landry, and the final spot will be between Binns and Hazel. It may not even be close if Binns can return to form and stay healthy. Then Hazel will make the PS.

One thing is for sure there will be some tough cuts from our roster this summer. We may even be forced to keep only 2 QB's in order to squeeze an extra player on the active roster. Thinking we keep 9 OL and 10 DL, 6 LB's maybe 7 depending on ST play, 5 CB's, 4 safeties (one being Wilson who be a 6th CB in the nickel), only 3 RB's, and we may have 4 TE's this year as Clay, Sims, and Lynch will be the top 3. The fourth TE could be either Egnew or Hoskins. However they figure it out our coaches will have a difficult time this year keeping everybody they want.

Wish the NFL would raise the active roster number a few.

Never has a team over-valued mediocre WRs like this, year after year -- in the history of the league.

For example, most posters on here treat Hartline as if he's an amazingly great WR -- not just a *decent* number 2 on a poor to average team.

Other teams have no problem upgrading WR slots. We, on the other hand, continually pick up cast-offs from other teams and treat them as awesome, lol.

Even NE, which is supposedly hurting for WRs, has 3 WRs faster, quicker and more upside than our whole WR roster of 2-6. Other teams don't have a problem requiring talent and upside at skill positions. We seem to value plodding, dependable, etc. Amazing.

Hope Landry changes this... but not too hopeful. He will never beat NFL DBs down the field. Ever.

Enough with the Hartline hate. He gets open, he catches balls, and he's super reliable.

Also NE receiving core is so suspect.

Wallace
Hartline
Gibson
Landry
Mathews or Binns
Hazel

All other cut, Thigpen will get cut for young guys who can return,Binns or Mathews will get cut or possibly traded unless they decide to hold 7 receivers and use them lots on special teams. Hazel makes it because you dont ussually straight up cut your draft picks

If you put hazel on the ps he's getting snatched up for sure.

They'll let this competition go down to the wire, to see who's the best and to account for injuries. who makes it is anyones guess.

One thing is clear. This staff plans on putting this WR core through a very tough camp and sees who's standing at the end.

I doubt someone would give up a roster spot on the 53 to snatch up one of our unproven guys.. but you never know I guess.

It's not that I hate Hartline. I DO hate relying on him as a number 2 WR.

I DO hate people puffing him up as something he is not -- just like they did w. Bess.

But I do not hate Hartline as a person or as a player -- if he were in a lesser role, especially. As it is, he is dependable and serviceable in a position that needs explosion and game-changing plays -- ALONG w. dependability.

Are you seriously saying you see three receivers in the group that have more upside than Hartline, Gibson, Landry, Matthews, and the rest of Miami's corp?

I think a lot of people here would be pissing their pants if the Patriots had Miami's receivers and the Dolphins had New England's.

The only WR on Miami's roster that brings anything more than what Pats have is Wallace.

Miami has a bunch of possession WRs 2-6. Period. W. the possible exception of Landry, and he's truly SLOW down the field. Will struggle against NFL DBs.

Boyce is three steps faster than Hartline with light-years more upside. 4.38 speed and quicker too. He's not physical but neither is Hartline.
Dobson is 6'3 and two steps faster than Hartline, three steps faster than Gibson and Landry and Matthews and Binns. 4.4 speed and good downfield ability and red zone.

Much more upside and talent than anyone on Miami's roster not named Wallace. People get so high on mediocre talent b.c it's on the Phins! Bottom line: ONCE AGAIN we are in the position as a team with POOR LEVEL TALENT at skill positions. IF Wallace goes down, we got nothing to threaten Ds. Just a roster full of possession WRs in a league that demands explosion and playmaking ability.
