I’m a fan of Tua but shame on Grier for not throwing a fourth out there to pick up Justin Fields the Steelers got a great deal. We know fields can run like the best of them. We also know that Mc Daniels could coach him up that’s a wasted opportunity on Griers part

They don’t want to damage Tua’s ego. The Eagles did the same in opting for Pickett over Fields. Fields clearly has the higher upside, but will be a media frenzy when the incumbent starter ahead of him is t playing well.

Has nothing to do with Tua’s ego. Fields sucks and is not a match to a McDaniel type of offense.

Great point, I think you're right. But, at what point do you sacrifice the team by having a loser as backup? It's not like Fields is Pat Mahomes. edit: maybe my eye test is wrong, White's stats:

Miami does not need to bring in a backup that will ask for huge money that will eventually force Miami to get rid of him.

He can't unthrown Tua, so as as competition, Field does not fill the bill.

He wants to be a starter on a team that already has a starter, so he will grow angry and frustrated quickly.

Finally he will eventually as a backup expect much better then backup money.

And for all this kaos, Miami gets the privilege of sending a 4th they don't even have.

Justin Fields screwed the Bears and himself for being absolutely terrible in their season finale. He had a great game on a prime time Thursday, doesn't take a genius to figure out that's where most people's opinions come from on players who don't play for their team, we see it on this board all the time.

Tua does not have an ego and he certainly wouldn't have to fear Fields.

Maybe Skylar would have been concerned.

In 3 seasons Fields did not improve as a passer. He completed 60% of his passes for 7 yards a completion each year. He averaged over 3 sacks taken a game. The only area he improved in was INT% where he dropped from 3.5 to 2.5 last year. Otherwise he was pretty much the same guy each year, as a passer, and you only saw his yards and TDs go up because he threw the ball more.

As much as people here like to knock Tua, he was statistically better than Fields’ entire career his rookie season in terms of percentages.
