Y-do some teams know how to rebuild and we cant?

Year after year this eats at my brain. Why can other sucky teams put together great drafts and talent and put together a respectable product on the field and we just cant do it. This is a serious musing. How long must we suffer as fans? For God's sake the New Orleans Saints can do it!

Like the Lions

Wanny hampered us for many years trying to squeeze what life our Defense has left..

I think Saban is trying to rebuild. Maybe not? I don't know..Saban is the devil afterall

He hasn't even been here 2 years.

Because the qb position has been ignored in the draft since we drafted marino. It blows my mind that we cannot draft some figgin talent at the qb position and live on other teams castaways. We have to rely on our defense to keep us in the game and score to win. This team needs to draft a good qb but the problem is there does not seem to be one that stands out this year. We are ignoring the most important position on the field and until we learn to draft some talent get use to losing.

I can't believe I'm agreeing with a Chargers fan

Also, you have to have a coach, with a system, and the drafted players that work in the system. The Chargers have drafted *very* well in regards to what they do with the football, though they need to stop getting lazy and focus all game, every game. I think they could be serious contenders if they would stop forgetting halfway through a game that there's still two quarters to go.

Hang around - I'll make you agree with me a lot. :D:wink:

It takes time man. It's called rebuilding...not revamping into a SB team in two tears. Look at the Panthers or even the Jags. They've had their slumps, but you wouldn't want John Fox or Del Rio as a HC? Saban is our guy.

we aren't trying to rebuild, when you rebuild you get rid of old players and get new younger ones. we are trying to win now, when you rebuild you usually aren't very competitive for a few years. we have some players soaking up money and we can't go all-out and rebuild because of it

Well if you're only going to give Saban two years, you have to do the same for every other team.

Lets look at some of the best teams in football.

Seattle- How long was this team bad for? They groomed Hasslebeck into a star and waitied for Alexander to explode. Seattle was a joke for their entire 30 year history until a couple of years ago.

Chicago- Wannsted led them to 13-3 in 2001, but this was after 5 straight losing seasons. After 2001, they went 16-32 for the next 3 years before their recent success.

Dallas- The Cowboys were losers for 5 straight years before Parcells came in. His rookie season, he took them to a one and done in the post season. The next two years, he went 15-17 with no playoffs. This year, they are good. So he was given 4 years and this is the legendary Parcels.

There are more, but I've got to go to class. Anyone can continue if they'd like.

We consistently get screwed out of QBs. I think that because we had Marino for so long and was so good were now paying for it. This was our season to be a big team and we layed and egg big time. IMO Saban made some bad desicions personel wise and it screwed us into the ground this season, mostly offensively.

Your ability to 'rise out of the ashes' as it were is DIRECTLY tied to your ability to draft IMPACT players .... or get lucky with a few lower tier FAs ...

SD: Brees, Tomlinson, Rivers, Merriman [a young team with a bright future]

DAL: Williams, Newman, Ware, Barber, Jones, Romo [talk about luck -- and a bright future]

NO: Bush, McAllister, Copper, and Brees [if they keep Brees, a bright future]

Notice a trend here .... we don't match up with IMPACT players ... and THAT is all the difference in the world !!

GREAT POST!!!!

I Guess this whole deal is part of the rebuilding process that we can't escape. You have to go through some rough times to make things happen for the future and i forgot what that is like. It took San Diego years to rebuild and it might take that long and then some. Not being negative but how many years did it take Chicago to rebuild after Wanny ruined everything. I blame Wayne H. for letting Wanny and Speilman get hired in the first place. Who trades two first round picks for a runningback? Curtis Martin went to the Jets for 1 first rounder and he's a hall of famer. Idiots have been running the Dolphins for so long, i wish someone would get it together.

Well Saban isn't trying to rebuild. Thats why we have so many veterans. He's trying to build on to what we already have. I think he's drafted some great future stars for us (Brown, Daniels, Roth, Crowder, Allen, R.Wright, Hagan, ect) who just need to reach their potential. I'd like to see him quit neglecting the oline and draft a tackle with our first or second round pick and maybe be a little more aggressive with quality players in free agency but overall I think we're heading in the right direction.
