Bills Officially Hire - Rex Ryan HC - 5 Year Deal - $5.5/Year

why would anyone want Cutler? how many good teams does he have to fail on before people understand what he is about?

Cutler can play. Dude is just a a loose cannon.

Reminds me of Stafford, some games he looks elite, some games you wonder how he is still in the league.

Cutler has all the physical tools and teases fans w/ what he should be but he's not a guy you can win with. Stafford is similar in that regard though better than Cutler.

I like it. Keeps the division interesting. My instinct is that Ryan still longs to defeat Belichick when it matters. Different setting and with Brady aging allows the opportunity.

Besides, Ryan with the Falcons seemed like a terrible fit. That's a soft team. Indoor teams are typically soft and up tempo. That doesn't describe Rex Ryan at all. I'm glad he avoid Matt Ryan. Too many things have to go right with Matt Ryan. He's undeniably decent but the already-shaky arm strength is starting to slip, causing more disastrous underneath picks when he can least afford it. Matt Ryan thrives against weak defenses but when asked to confront top attacking foes there is simply too much potential for him to be exposed, like the sub-6 YPA in both games against Carolina and the Ravens game. I suspect Ryan would have taken the Falcons job if he had higher opinion of Matt Ryan.

IMO, it's idiotic to overreact to the current makeup of your roster as opposed to embracing a wide scope view. Poor defensive teams are desperate to name a defensive specialist as head coach. Same dynamic with poor offensive teams. It's like simplistic wheel spinning. I always enjoy it when the dunce move backfires, like the Bears hiring cupcake Marc Trestman because they were determined to squeeze a bit more offense.

Pick the best guy, regardless of his supposed strength. It's like taking best player available in the draft. Don't be surprised if good things happen.

I'm not sure how Doug Marrone fits here. Did he think it was an automatic he'd receive another NFL gig, based on 9-7 at Buffalo?

I'm with you on it keeping the division interesting. I hope the Jets new coach can keep that Dline productive, and we can pressure Brady like we did in week 1. Hopefully all 3 teams can put enough hits on Brady to make him consider retiring.

I thought Rex would have been a good fit with the Falcons. Yes, they are a soft indoor team, but that is exactly why they could have used a defensive coach like Rex.

I don't disagree with your assessment of Matt Ryan, but Rex would have taken the job had the Falcons offered him a contract. I seriously doubt it had anything to do with Matt Ryan since he took a job with EJ Manuel as the current starting QB.

If buffalo is truly just a qb away from playoffs, and SB potential, it's not far fetched that they throw everything at tampa for the 1st overall pick, and get Mariota. Not that I think Mariota is worth a whole lot. Just something to think about. Would also suit Mariota well, as buffalo was a read option offense before Orton got there.

edit: crap, I forgot the bills don't have a 1st round pick. they'd have to give up a 2016 first and probably all of their 2015 picks. lol

Quite true . Im convinced he is not being influenced by who is at qb. They made a pretty high offer and he accepted. Personally I think Atlanta is wise to look elsewhere.

I'm not as high on Rex as a head coach as some. If he keeps the defense similar to what his buddy Pettine did (blitzing while stayind in a 4-3) The defense will continue to be dominant. If he switches to a 304 like rumored there could be a step back. Kyle Williams struggled at NT the last time Buffalo tried 3-4, and Mario is kind of miscast there (before getting hurt his final year at Houston they were using him at OLB).

The question becomes what is he gonna do offensively. Is Greg Roman a good OC? How much of SanFran's success those last few years him and how much was Harbaugh? He'll at least be on the same page as Rex as to what to do on offense. But much like in New York, they can't develop the offense it's gonna end poorly.

Just doesn't look right

Looks like Sparano Jr. has hitched his wagon to Rex. Went from a quality control coach in Miami to an offensive assistant for Rex and his daddy in New York and now he is hanging with Rex in Buffalo.
