Chase Allen Leads The NFL

I've watched Chase all preseason and I will go out on a limb and say he's better than Hull and Hewitt by far. I would start him at MLB. Move Kiko and Timmons outside

No limb to go out on- The others aren't good enough. If Hull starts were in touble, not sure if anyone is better though either- problem 2.

Really?

Great decision, huh? How about that guaranteed money and he was released the following season. Hopefully the same goes for Alonso. If you think Alonso is a "very good" LB or even "well above" average, then you're staring at box scores and highlight reels, and not his game on an every down basis.
I don't count Ireland resignings! And the fins still let him go. I am looking at game film, I just don't see how you think he is below average and it seems neither do the Dolphins. This year will be telling, come back to me after the season.

We might be able to get by in base at mike but we are screwed in 2 deep nickel especially if it's the carry coverage backer. There is none.

Lacy doesn't even have an NFL body for contact in this scheme at lb yet.

We need a nickel piece that can carry coverage in the 2 deep and man wlb if Kiko goes down.

2 down strong probably can be found in season if need be. Serviceable at least

Maybe we will just sit in zone with 2 cardboard cut outs in Rey mauluga and hull in nickel.

I'd sure like to know what the plan is. Must be banking on health in the plan a's

Chase Allen is going to have a tough time making the roster because Rey Maualuga was signed to give us exactly what Allen is best at, and Maualuga is Burke's safety blanket so he's got the advantage.

Allen is big and strong and plays like a big and strong guy. He does not always play like a guy that can time fairly well in a 40 yard dash, etc. In fact, against the Ravens, he was sluggish as HELL and looked like a 5.0+ player. He had a truly awful game against the Ravens, but he had better days against the Falcons and certainly the Eagles. The latter was in part because the DL kept him clean and funneled things to him pretty well.

Deon Lacey is the guy that is safe that people don't realize is safe. Standout special teams player, shows instincts and range in coverage that are not common. Has been surprisingly physical when it comes to sticking his nose into the blocking scheme, getting off the block. His weakness even in the CFL was inconsistent angling toward ball carriers, which can lead to awkward and botched tackle attempts. But there's too much good in there, so he's going to be on the roster playing special teams and possibly being trained to be a nickel specialist, until he cleans up some of his weaknesses or they find a way to hide them.

Personally I see five guys at the LB position worth rostering (if you exclude Neville Hewitt who is ailing), and that's a problem.

i also remember when Brian Hartline was our best WR. Doesn't mean ****.

It means the guy can play. So if your team has no receivers other then Hartline, are you saying instead of bringing a few more quality receivers to add to the roster with Hartline, you would instead rather get rid of Hartline, and get all new receivers?

Alonzo is a quality player that yes, has shortcomings, but is still effective, and what you then do is get other players that are as good or hopefully even better to compliment him, so Miami instead of getting rid of a LB that did well, they instead brought in Timmons, and they drafted McMillan who was probably going to start in the middle. That would have then maybe made Kiko the 3rd best of the three, but still would have given Miami a good starting LB squad.

I don't know what it is with just finding individual players, and just making him the guy some will just bad mouth any chance they get (Tannehill, Landry, Alonzo...). He is a Dolphin, he was effective in what was expected of him, and he is under contract with your team, why not hope that he has a better year with better players around him, and he can get around some of his shortcomings, and actually be able to fix the others in this new season.

Simply put, I expect better.

We all do, but we are not going to have Superstars at every position, and at least with Alonzo, he has the motor, and heart to maybe get better.

I'm asking for competent and consistent LB play. Not a superstar. Having a penchant for a few highlight plays is novel, but no where near ideal. Strength at the POA and coverage ability are the two main areas of strength that are required from the LB unit in our scheme and those a both valid weaknesses in Alonso's game.

I'll let you have the last word here if you like, I'm going to stop as to not derail the thread topic.

I was a VIP member for at least 5 years and I don't recall seeing any HC or DC comment on any players. We will just have to agree to disagree on Kiko's value.

Allen is a nice under the radar fa signing this year along with Smith, Davis and Stringfellow which is quite encouraging considering what we are have done in the past.
