    Blackout Expected For Local Television

This has already been mentioned today. However, I don't know if it was pointed out that the team has until 1:00 PM today to sell out. If it isn't, local TV will not show the game. It is times like these that I am glad to have Direct TV and live out of state.

Don't you live in Texas or something? This only affects those in the Miami area.

Only if you live in Miami. Out of staters don't have to worry about ticket sales when it comes to Direct TV.

I'd be at every game too if I was in Miami. Most Miami fans don't live there. Miami is a very diverse city.

Makes no sense to me,TV and DHL buy out the preseason games to put them on TV but not the home opener?? I don't buy it, it's puffing by the front office,I expect the same to happen for this game.Plus they should get a blackout extension due to the holiday.....

I'll be at the game like always... They'll prolly extend the deadline like they always do, and then the game will sell out. Thats my guess. :goof:

i think if you pay for direct ticket, you should get the games, even if you live in Miami.

If you pay for it, you are paying for Direct TV's license to broadcast the game from the NFL - IMO that should sacrifice all the NFL's rights to the games - that's what DirectTV pays the NFL millions for.

side note - what does the NFL do with all the money it makes? the teams pay the players, the teams pay the NFL to have games, a portion of ticket sales and stuff goes to pay refs. What exactly does the NFL do with all that money???

I know we all love this site, but I have been to Buffalo,Minny and Miami and Miami was the quietest stadium by far. The fans on Miami do not seem to be as passionate as other teams have

Someone will buy out the remaining lot in time. The local station always does it if it's not more than a few thousand, for PR and ratings. Front office wimps miffed a new regime isn't tilting the entire region toward Dolphin Stadium. They were one press release short and couldn't think of anything fascinating about Eddie Moore. Besides, fear is very popular these days.

I'm not sure the Labor Day excuse cuts it this week, not with the dockets on sale for months.

Yes, but only a portion of the TV revenue is used by the league. The rest, the vast majority of it, is divided equally by the owners. That's how Buffalo still has the Jills, NE, Atlanta, NO, KC, & the Packers (tough to sell them, they're paritaly owned by the citizens) stayed afloat for all those losing seasons. The owners are guaranteed $$$$, and can usually stay in the black.

Unless of course you're Art Modell and want the billion $$$$ sweetheart deal to move the team. Suddenly, you're broke and "have no choice". :rofl3:

Um, I think the work you're looking for is ducats, not dockets. Dockets are cases lists for a court.C'mon, any good UM fan know that! :D

Maybe Wayne can reach into his fat wallet and buy the remaining tickets and give them to poor folk who want to watch football....or maybe a Miami station will do this. I am gonna be parked in front of a 10 foot HD big screen at my favorite sportsbar here in Colorado watching the game. :)

I wish that every game the TV stations would not buy the remaining seats up. Just so the fans in the surrounding area can't watch it. They need to be at the stadium, not wishing for the blackouts to be lifted.

no, not lately, but years ago, that place wouldn't shut up. in the marino days, everyone was into it. not much to cheer about especially at the moment.

Actually it was toned down when Marino started playing. He did bring some life back into things, but he also had a lot of Jets fans going to games just to see him play. They would wear Miami Jerseys, and if the team was playing the Jets, and the Jets won, you would see them taking them off, wearing Jets Jersey's underneath. They would also start cheers when Miami was on offense at the LOS. That stuff caught on too, because to this day some Miami fans still do it.

There was nothing louder than the early 70's during the terrible towel/Super Bowl days. It was absolutely deafening.

    it is a disgrace

opening day. Were 0-0 and we cant sell out. Terrible.

Even if we were 2-11 like last year going into the New England Game we should always sell out.

When the TV stations buy the remaining tickets, do they then sell them during the period of time before the game starts? They would have 3 days to sell the tickets, and based on history they would almost always make their money back. For some reason walk up crowds in Miami are always high.

BTW, I live in Tallahassee, have Sunday Ticket, and have never had a blackout problem. If the Tallahassee local CBS/Fox is showing the game, it's blacked out on the Sunday Ticket channel, but obviously you can watch it on the regular channel.
