Leave soccer the way it is man....

Well, FIFA changes the game constantly. Now, Blatter is thinking of the 2 ref idea. Also, remember the golden goal (oh yes, that's another thing I really liked that I wish they didn't repeal)? That was an innovation, and taking it away was another innovation.

Don't forget that allowing only 3 subs is an innovation too, so soccer (like all sports) constantly changes. It's good to think of ways to improve something and not just accept things the way they are.

Okay, so lets Cherry pick all day...

No one says you cant keep a defender back to mark him........it doesnt seem to ruin Basketball with the same opportunity to Cherry Pick....reality says no team would leave an otherwise defender in the offensive zone and be out manned while the opponent has the ball.....but it would create some killer fast breaks in soccer.

I bring up another recommended change.......the person fouled should have to take the FK or PK....

Interesting, though it would make nearly no difference. Something that would make more of a difference is to get the ref to referee the same regardless of whether a foul occurs in the penalty area or on the rest of the field.

Many refs don't want to be accused of letting one team win and thus are reluctant to call a foul against the defence if the play is in the penaly box.

It has to make some difference....Beckham would have been out of a job long ago otherwise.

:D

On FK's no...but on PK's..absolutely.

You got fouled...YOU should take the PK.

Basketball's court is 100x smaller (exaggeration of course)

This would ruin Football IMO...

NO it wouldn't.

What is so wrong with actually marking a player?

Do you know the history of the offsides rule? (It is much stricter today than it ever has)

That could be interesting, and would make players have to be more "complete" so to speak, but some guys don't really get fouled, and then players who are specialists at FKs would look for FKs all the time. You'd see diving all over the place, and not just inside the box. It would hurt the game too IMO.

and soccor has more players to cover that field.

offside rule is stupid IMO. what a great game that italy game was eh? 0-0 after 90 boring minutes? offside keeps scoring down, which keeps excitement down.

You'd have a guy in the box sitting there, waiting for long balls all day. The Defender would mark him, thus taking away another attacking threat for your team. And If he beats the Defender, it is 1 on 1 against the GK...then everyone would be kicking long balls and Soccer would turn into Kickball.

leave as is. Just make sure refs are consistent on the passive offside and begin using replays on goals scored which came about from critical offside situations.

The no-offside rule as is (midfield) is enough.

the only difference between then and now is the passive offside rule. 20 years ago..offside was offside. Now you can be passively offside. So the rule actually has lightened up a ,little.

Guys, make sure to vote so we can get a good idea of the distribution (even if it's still way too small a sample); some that have posted in this thread haven't voted yet.
