Merged: LaVar Arrington threads/Arrington to Giants/Arrington Meeting with Jags

I'm sure glad I never believed a word of this lame *** thread yesterday, and avoided reading it over the last 24 hrs. You should be banned for posting bogus news too. At the very least, I hope you learned a valuable lesson....

PHINZ RULE!!!

I don't criticize LA, but I just don't want us to break the bank on him either. I think he is a very good player and would be a good fit in our defense. I don't believe that he would be disruptive with our coaching staff. Get him but don't overpay for him.

The contract dispute was eventually settled, but Arrington then found himself unable to get on the field. He was a marginal player in the first six games of the season last year and didn't play at all in a loss at Denver. Coaches said Arrington was still recovering from his knee injury, but there was also the sense that Arrington, a creative player known to make big plays by freelancing on the field, wasn't a good fit in assistant coach Gregg Williams' disciplined defensive schemes.
Arrington eventually regained his starting job at midseason, but was not the impact player he had been in years past. He finished the season without a sack, and his only interception came in the playoff victory at Tampa Bay.

That's mainly why I don't want Saban to invest a boatload of money in Arrington. If we can get him for a decent amount of money, then I'm all for it.

Well, it is now Saturday. I guess LaVar is not going to be a Dolphin. Now we can say this:

Realistically though, we still have a shot because published reports say that the Jags won't break the bank on him either. :)

:sidelol: That recording was made last year at the end of the Bills final game. And it is also what Jets fans say every year after their first round draft pick selection.

Apparently you didn't see all the DROPS that I did last year. Statistics be damned...Booker underacheived last season. He doesn't exactly "strike fear into D-cord's hearts" now does he????
Bottom Line: WE NEED ANOTHER RECEIVER to stretch the field for Pep. :tantrum:

Just curious... WHO is that 2nd receiver?? I can't help wondering, that IF we don't lnad LaVar, then we must have some money to spend... but on who??

You cannot say any time you add a PB, you are a better team. I dont think he is disciplined for the team and what I mean is on the field. I think he will freelance more than he should and be a disruption to chemistry and schemes.

I don't understand at all to see comments from people who don't want to see Arrington with us. All the time you are adding a pro-bowler to your line up, you get an improvement (specially a 3-time pro-bowler in the past 6 years). I have nothing against Derrick Pope or Donnie Spragan but Arrington would be a huge improvement to our defensive core. As for attitude issues, I'm pretty sure Saban can handle it! The bottom is to win games and with a player of this calibre, we are improving our chances.

Yeah he would improve one psoition, But if we don't sign him and we sign guys like Sam Adams and Lance Schulters and maybe a couple more good players is that not better than 1 great player? PLayers win awards, But teams win Championships.

He is a "hand in glove" fit for the 3-4 Capers will run and anyone who doesn't want him in a Phin uniform doesn't understand the defensive side of the ball at all!! Period.

"But the 6-3, 255-pound Arrington had the best season of his career under Lewis in the one season his fellow Pittsburgh product served as the Redskins defensive coordinator. In 2002, Arrington had 11 sacks, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. In a new system in 2003, he had six sacks and seven forced fumbles while going to his third straight Pro Bowl and earning an eight-year, $64 million extension before enduring injury-plagued seasons in 2004 and 2005 marked by conflicts with how he was used.

After taking the wraps off Arrington last November as he came back from a balky knee, the Redskins saw him help fuel their playoff run that was capped by his interception that set up Washington’s first score in the Wild Card win over Tampa Bay.

But the Redskins hardly ever used him in passing situations the past two seasons as a weak-side linebacker. When Lewis convinced him that he could be effective rushing with his hand on the ground as a third-down end back in ‘02, Arrington flourished with his career-high 11 sacks. Bengals linebackers coach Ricky Hunley served on that staff as the defensive line coach.
Now Arrington, who turns 28 in June, is looking to revive a career that began with such promise."
-----------------------

The Redskins coaches (and his injury) are what made this guy less effective the last 2 seasons. (I live in VA, and I'm subjected to endless Redskins coverage here) Lavar was healthy at the start of the season and they refused to play him. When they went on a little losing streak, they let him play, and he had solid games. Yeah, no sacks, but he was performing well, while not A) knowing the coaches had no confidence in him, and B) not getting the steady playtime a 'true' starter was getting. Make no mistake, with all his issues, injuries, coaches trippin, he was the heart of the Redskins defense, even whne he was on the bench.

Ya, I saw the article too, but I also watched the last 3 or 4 'Skins games, including the playoffs...he was a man among boys on the field during that stretch...I don't know much about he and Williams issues, but I saw a guy that made the Skins D one of the best I've seen since the Ravens hey-day...if only for a four or 5 game stretch...too bad their O was so bad...they could have made some waves...Arrington did what you expect a stud to do...he made his presence felt more than any other player on the Skins team...

[edit: sorry - puppy stepped on the keyboard and sent too soon]

What I understand is that his agent is the Poston (no longer plural because his brother got suspended for screwing up Lavar's last deal ). I haven't liked the Postons since they became Penny Hardaway's agents a looonnngg time ago. I understand he gave back $4.4M and a $6.5M roster bonus to buy his way out of Washington. I understand that his agent would be remiss is he didn't get at least $11M in guaranteed money this year.

I understand that we have Zack, Crowder, and JT as linebackers in the 3-4. I understand that we have may be able to get a stud linebacker in the 1st round of the draft (or maybe even the 3rd).

I understand that Lavar is a very good player. I just don't want to overpay - but I understand that Nick understands that too - and will make the right decision for the team...
