I like Petty also. He throws a nice ball with some timing and he's got fire in him.
As far as dumbing down a playbook, maybe that was the case but he's not exactly dumb. As this Cimini article points out when the Jets drafted him, the average QB Wonderlic Score is 24 and his was 31. So he's not exactly Vince Young.

Now it's true that Kaepernick scored a 38 yet the Tomsula 49ers had to dumb down their playbook as much as possible for him and allegedly that still wasn't enough, so I guess there's a disconnect between Football IQ and general.
