2019 Nfl Draft Prospects

QB Nick Fitzgerald Miss. St. 6-5 225lbs.

NFL Combine
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 226
Arm: 31 7/8
Hand: 9 3/4
40: 4.65
VJ: 29.5
BJ: 9'7"

NFL Comparison
Matt Jones (Arkansas)
Overview
Fitzgerald's size and arm talent is sure to land him on the back board of teams who covet those traits for developmental quarterbacks, but his issues with accuracy, decision-making and field vision make him more project than prospect. His running ability could help him find work for a team looking to employ a running quarterback in short-yardage packages, but he lacks the core components of a competent NFL passer, and it's hard to see him ever becoming a QB2 in the league.
Strengths
  • Has the prototype size to get NFL teams excited
  • NFL-caliber arm strength to make all the NFL throws
  • Shows understanding of looking off safeties post-snap
  • Flashes some potential to throw to moving targets with some accuracy
  • Throws with good drive velocity in front of safeties when attacking deep middle
  • Puts air under his deep shots, allowing receivers time to run under it
  • Big, but nifty as a runner
  • Plus vision and can maneuver around traffic to maximize his rush output
  • Long-strider with access to a top speed that can thrust him past second level
  • Red-zone specialist with ability to find the end zone on a consistent basis as a runner.
Weaknesses
  • Production and consistency went from bad to worse as a passer during his career
  • Finished with more rushing attempts than passing completions
  • Lacks accuracy to be trusted to consistently complete the simple throw
  • Fastball pitcher who hasn't learned to vary velocity when needed
  • Highest completion percentage as a starter was only 55.6 in 2017
  • Strides into a stiff front leg, causing some inconsistencies with aim
  • Is his own worst enemy with poor decision-making
  • Defaults to careless, off-balance throws with traffic in his face
  • Fails to recognize viable one-on-one opportunities on the outside
  • Struggles to recognize and walk away from an ill-fated read
  • Slow release allows defenders to peel off clearing routes and jump underneath.

RB LJ Scott Mich. St. 6-1 226lbs.

NFL Comparison
Jordan Howard
Overview
Scott failed to hit the 1,000 yard mark during his career and had just one season averaging more than 4.8 yards per carry, but those numbers are not indicative of his NFL potential. Despite consecutive seasons of traffic jams in front of him, his vision and decisiveness has not been compromised. Scott is a volume ball-carrier whose pass-catching ability adds to his value as a potential starter, but he struggles to find explosive carries and might need to be part of a "thunder and lightning" pairing.
Strengths
  • Well-built with proportional frame
  • Plays with desired north-south demeanor as inside runner
  • Decisive with a burst gear to clear the hole
  • Keeps plays on preferred track rather than bouncing it wide
  • Allows blockers time to get to their work
  • Good timing for making cuts off his blockers right at their point of engagement
  • Efficient and makes the most of his run lanes
  • Light feet for a big back
  • Plus jump cut to elude wannabe tacklers on first and second levels
  • Loaded boxes and subpar run blocking forced him to be self-sufficient
  • Viable pass-catching option with potential to ramp up the volume
Weaknesses
  • Can run with better knee bend and pad level in space
  • Needs to run with more power and less finesse near the goal line
  • Just 14 rushing touchdowns over his last 340 carries
  • Takes some losses due to inability to accelerate away from early traffic
  • Speed to outrun flowing NFL linebackers to the corner is below par
  • Running style limits ability to create the explosive runs
  • Ball security needs to improve
  • Had both mental and physical busts in pass protection

WR Marquise Brown Oklahoma 5-10 160lbs.

NFL Combine
Height: 5-9
Weight: 166
Arm: 30 1/2
Hand: 9

NFL Comparison
DeSean Jackson
Overview
"Hollywood" is a skinny, but speedy receiver with game-breaking potential on every snap. His ability to race past cornerbacks and separate deep will require specific coverage and safeties ready to help. His thin frame is a liability when faced with contested catches both short and deep, and long-term durability is a legitimate concern. However, his ability to threaten deep with long speed and short as an elite run-after-catch talent gives him a chance to become the most impactful wideout in this draft.
Strengths
  • Plays with all-day energy and terrifying top-end speed
  • Feet never come to a halt until after whistle
  • Able to play inside as a playmaker or outside as field-stretcher
  • Slick, sudden feet to escape press coverage without damage
  • His long speed has additional separation gear
  • Early turn-and-run from respectful cornerbacks opens easy comeback routes
  • Vacillating route leverage puts tight-hipped corners in a coverage blender
  • Easy burst quickness to separate out of breaks
  • Safety help needs to be in the game plan
  • Dots both feet in-bounds on sideline throws
  • Electric maze runner after the catch
  • No gear-down needed to make cuts and elude tackles
  • Can turn short throws into touchdowns
Weaknesses
  • Painfully thin frame falls below typical minimum standards
  • Will face concerns over long-term durability
  • Relies on explosive speed but requires more positional polish
  • Additional route knowledge required
  • Takes time to drop hips and get into breaks from sprint
  • Ineffective working into teeth of coverage
  • Average hands to finish contested catches
  • Inconsistent deep-ball adjustments
  • Swerves and searches for proper path when tracking deep throw
  • Lacks size and ball skills to battle for underthrown balls
  • Not a 50-50 ball winner
  • Offered no return value at Oklahoma

NFL Comparison
Kyle Rudolph
Overview
Outstanding combination of measurables and traits, but he's much more moldable clay than game-ready prospect at this point. Knox lacks early speed and short-area quickness which could limit his ability to uncover underneath but he's much more dangerous when allowed to roam the middle of the field as a more linear route-worker. His pass-catching production may never matchup with the testing numbers, but his aggressiveness and talent as a run-blocker could provide him work as a combo tight end for years to come.
Strengths
  • Carries NFL-caliber frame along with him
  • Workout freak-daddy with good explosion and speed numbers
  • Flexible hips to sink and expedite his whip routes
  • Tracks and adjusts to the throw
  • Build-up speed is impressive
  • Catches it away from his frame in space
  • Competitive runner after catch
  • Can make a tackler miss or hit them with some power
  • Accurate, heavy hands at point of attack
  • Strikes with leverage and churns feet looking to bury his man
  • Punches with good extension in pass pro
  • Gives good effort to stay in front of rusher.
Weaknesses
  • Workout testing doesn't manifest itself on tape often enough
  • Pace can be a little sluggish underneath
  • Route turns and breaks lack desired burst
  • Never scored a touchdown in college
  • Will get out-breaking routes jumped
  • Has dealt with nagging injuries since high school
  • Bad blocking reps usually involve lunging
  • Needs to keep head back and see what he's striking

Ford entered the season as a relative unknown and elevated his draft stock significantly throughout the course of the year. His success helped Oklahoma win the Joe Moore Award, which is awarded to the best offensive line in college football.

Ford has a rare combination of strength, mobility, and athleticism for a player of his size. He can essentially devastate a defender with his initial punch, jolting them off balance and gaining control. When he uses his long arms to latch on, he can steer the defender where ever he wants. Massive and strong lower body, he moves well off the ball and hardly giving up the corner.

He has overwhelming power on initial contact. Ford keeps his feet moving after contact and tries to finish blocks, playing with a nasty streak. He has the athleticism to pick up blocks in space and adjust to linebackers while on the move. Ford is an instant impact player, who can play either tackle spot with the ceiling of a long term All-Pro.

Trysten Hill is a big-bodied defender who easily moves his large frame around the field and disrupts the action. He takes up a lot of room in the middle of the field but needs to improve his hand technique and get a little stronger to complete his game.

BEST TRAIT - Stunting/Length

WORST TRAIT - Flexibility

RED FLAGS - Torn ACL on left knee in 2016

Granderson enjoyed a breakout junior season returning from his ACL tear in 2016 but tapered off as a senior. Because of his limitations in terms of flexibility and play strength as a hand-in-the-dirt defensive end, Granderson's best NFL fit comes as a standup 3-4 outside linebacker where he can take advantage of angles created from stunting and utilize his length. By year three, Granderson may be able to carve out a niche role in sub-packages while providing additional value on special teams.

NFL Comparison
Jatavis Brown
Overview
Ultra-productive but undersized, teams will have to decipher how much of his production is translatable and how much came from his brazen, downhill approach. Long plays with a "scared money don't make money" approach that hit jackpots but pulled him out of position more than NFL coaches will be comfortable, with, but teams would rather dial back aggression than try and coach it up. His twitch and strength help mitigate size concerns and he has enough talent to project as an eventual, three-down starter.
Strengths
  • Small but compact with good musculation
  • Instant recognition of play direction
  • Downhill charge is decisive, fast and disruptive
  • 26 percent of his solo tackles were for losses over last two years
  • Plays with plus burst to close
  • Doesn't need to tap brakes to change direction downhill
  • Unique talent to defeat wash down blocks with bend and agility
  • Shows ability to squeeze through gaps once he's there
  • Above average base strength
  • Hunts with success as blitzer
  • Yanks and sheds blocks with explosive upper body
  • Tracks and swallows quarterbacks once he's in the pocket
Weaknesses
  • Lacks size and length teams want at linebacker
  • Play can be wild and lacking discipline
  • Hair trigger downhill shots prevent proper reads/diagnosis
  • Size can cover him up if he's not diligent with hands
  • Takes suspect angles to the football
  • Tape is full of missed tackles
  • Frenetic pace derails patience/balance needed to tackle
  • Can be exploited by play-action and RPOs
  • Inconsistent drop depth opens easy windows over him
  • Below-average awareness of route development

NFL Comparison
Trumaine Johnson
Overview
Long press corner who has shown an ability to use his size and aggression as a zealot in contested catch battles. While he has traits to build upon, the Georgia game shined a light on his press inefficiency, lack of speed and inconsistent ball skills with his back to the quarterback. Coaching and scheme can improve or cover some of those areas, but the early results could be a bit uneven. If the technique catches up with the traits, the play demeanor and talent should make him a solid NFL starter.
Strengths
  • Excellent combination of size and length
  • Battle-tested against upper-echelon talent at receiver
  • Ball production found him this season
  • Absolutely smothering once he ensnares the release
  • Outside release gets smashed against the boundary
  • Plays with good agility for his size
  • Functional self-fixer after an early misstep in coverage
  • Has size to compete against big, physical NFL targets
  • Length and physicality tilt contested catches in his favor
  • Very quick hands to strike into passing lane
  • Rips between and through arms and hands
  • A bad play doesn't seem to wreck his confidence
  • Aggressive and reliable tackle-finisher in space
Weaknesses
  • Makes splashy plays and gives them up
  • Impatience from press is a concern
  • Displaced out of position by outside release fakes
  • Needs better connection rate with jams
  • Lacks hips and long speed to survive a speedster's head-start
  • Downfield ball skills need work
  • Panicky hands when back is to the ball
  • Grabs or attacks receiver prematurely resulting in penalties
  • Inconsistent finding and adjusting to the throw
  • Issues with coverage balance from zone against Georgia
  • Slow to match comebacks from bail technique

NFL Comparison
Justin Simmons
Overview
Deep safety with NFL size, length and athleticism who suffers from a lack of discipline and mental mistakes on the back end. Bell sometimes straddles the line between anticipation and recklessness and he lacks the speed to make-up for his mistakes. He is quick to jump targets and make plays from man or zone, but his eagerness to freelance and bite on baits could make him an early target of NFL quarterbacks. He's a feast-or-famine deep safety who might have teams looking at him as a corner.
Strengths
  • Long with above-average athletic talent
  • Loose in his lower half and moves like a big cornerback
  • Ball-hawking mentality
  • Has 14 passes defended including three interceptions in 2018
  • Good anticipation and reaction speed to range over top
  • Springy, above the rim leaper
  • Size and cover talent to handle man coverage
  • Flashes tremendous instincts and route anticipation
  • Smooth transitions and change of direction
  • Plus burst to close and contest
  • Flies up and slams into receivers to jar catch free
Weaknesses
  • Inconsistent positioning as tackler
  • Needs to square and run feet through target to finish
  • Discipline from centerfield is a problem
  • Nosey and willing to freelance, voiding his positioning
  • Loses "deeper than deepest" responsibility
  • Long speed is below average
  • Will guess rather than process the field
  • Clever quarterbacks can move him around with brief glances
  • Shallow approach angles to ball when driving from the hash
  • Occasional mistimed leaps at high-point

QB Kyler Murray Oklahoma 5-10 207lbs.

NFL Combine
Height: 5-10
Weight: 207
Arm: 28 1/2
Hand: 9 1/2

NFL Comparison
Russell Wilson
Overview
Severely undersized, one-year starter with rare playmaking talent that could force general managers to reassess long-held notions about size and style for a franchise quarterback. Murray is like a complex burgundy with notes of Baker Mayfield, Johnny Manziel and Russell Wilson in his play, but like any quarterback, he'll need to prove he can recognize disguised coverages and work on-time from the pocket to go from flash talent to playoff winner. Teams drafting him need to have the right coordinator and must be committed to framing their offense specifically to Murray's strengths and weaknesses, which could require additional roster re-configuration. Murray is an electric talent with a live arm, good mental makeup and the skill-set to produce at a high level in the right offense.
Strengths
  • Never seems to get rattled or overwhelmed
  • Showed ability to elevate his play in clutch situations
  • Plus runner and passer as true dual-threat quarterback
  • Twitchy ball-handler for instant delivery from RPO reads
  • Gets through progressions and won't fall in love with primary target
  • Above-verage release quickness from pocket
  • Lively arm to challenge safeties and attack tight windows
  • Throws catchable ball with good touch
  • Baseball outfielder with "long toss" deep-throw talent
  • Quick with smooth follow-through for easy 50-yard throws in rhythm
  • Effective and accurate when throwing on the move
  • Puts fatigued defenses in a serious bind
  • Uncommon ability to extend plays and make back-breaking throws
  • Most elusive pocket target rushers will ever see
  • Sacked just 18 times
  • Slips tackles and outruns defenders like a running back
  • Torments coordinators with zone-read runs and third-down conversions with legs
Weaknesses
  • Just one season as full-time starter and leader of the team
  • Requires diversity-of-game experience for NFL chess matches
  • Had 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions before final season
  • Short with smallish frame
  • Concerns over durability due to size and playing style
  • Needs to implement more open-field slides when finishing runs
  • Could struggle to see and throw over defenders from the pocket
  • Defaults to low arm-angle throws unnecessarily
  • Will leave feet behind when scanning and throwing
  • Needs better eye discipline to avoid stare-down scenarios
  • Too willing to challenge into double coverage
  • Mechanical inconsistencies can cause throws to sail
  • Needs to prove he can throw on time to the middle of the field
Sources Tell Us

RB Rodney Anderson Oklahoma 6-0 224lbs.

NFL Combine
Height: 6-0
Weight: 224
Arm: 30 3/4
Hand: 9 3/4
225: 25

NFL Comparison
Stevan Ridley
Overview
Volume runner plagued by a history of injuries that could make teams wary of him until after completion of his combine medicals. Anderson has good size and instincts as an interior runner, but he lacks the juice to be a dynamic runner and might be forced to earn his living as a downhill hammer with the ability to leak out on swing passes. His lack of elusiveness and history of season-ending injuries could force him to earn his stripes early on from the lower rung of a running back depth chart.
Strengths
  • Nose for paydirt with 21 career touchdowns over just 217 total touches
  • Runs with some looseness in hips
  • Instinctive in maneuvering through interior traffic
  • Feels width of run lane and development of blocking scheme
  • Rhythmic runner who can cut without slowing once he's rolling downhill
  • Patient hiding behind blockers and waiting for them to engage
  • Uses stiff-arm as reliable deterrent to angle tackle attempts
  • Powerful base with contact balance to shake free of tall tackle attempts
  • Capable pass-catcher out of backfield who is quick to hit it upfield
  • Good hands and flashed ability to adjust to poorly thrown balls
Weaknesses
  • Lacks twitch and dynamic movement as an athlete
  • Running style is more gradual than sudden
  • Marginal difference in burst between first and second gear
  • Upright through the hole and takes punishing shots
  • Average speed to the corner could be trouble against NFL pace
  • Slow to restart feet once he's forced to gear down
  • Struggles to elude tacklers in close quarters
  • Suffered season-ending injuries in three of the last four seasons
  • Below-average awareness and take-on toughness as pass blocker.

NFL Comparison
Percy Harvin
Overview
Blue-chip athlete with elite package of size, speed and fluidity as a big slot receiver. Campbell's athletic attributes could create a coverage conundrum if his offensive coordinator puts him in a diversified role that allows him to attack vertically more often. Teams know he's a gifted athlete, but he needs to add more polish as a route-runner to become a well-rounded target instead of a gadget slot. His upside is bolstered by his traits while his special teams ability and talent with the ball in his hands should level out any bust concerns.
Strengths
  • Track speed to scare safeties and corners
  • Expected to crush combine in all testing
  • Extremely explosive but still fluid
  • Early cushions of respect offer easy catches underneath
  • Light feet dart around defenders looking to impede
  • Generates separation on all three levels
  • Lived on Jugs machine last summer and improved hands
  • Comfortable plucking throws in stride
  • Size to break initial tackle after catch
  • Quick gather and leap to rescue overthrows
  • High-end potential with ball in his hands
  • Acceleration to split tacklers with speed to defeat angles and house it
  • Can get after it as slot blocker
  • Capable kick returner with above-average cover talent on punts and kicks
Weaknesses
  • Handcuffed to a more limited role in college
  • Jet sweep and catch-and-run specialist with much to learn still
  • Limited experience with the route tree and downfield looks
  • Appears to be step-counter on intermediate patterns
  • Flat, rounded routes lack quality fakes at the top
  • Doesn't change route tempo very often
  • Tons of zone looks made life easy for him in space
  • Catch focus will need continued work
Sources Tell Us

NFL Comparison
Lance Kendricks
Overview
With his play speed, ability to maintain separation and ready-steady hands, Nauta fits the mold of a "matchup tight end" with the ability to factor in on all three levels. He doesn't need scheme help to uncover against man coverage and has potential to become a solid move blocker to help elevate the perimeter run game. He's on the smaller side which could work against him, but he has enough athletic ability and pass-catching talent to outplay his draft slotting.
Strengths
  • Runs well and plays fast Subtle speed alterations inside his routes Accelerates through the turn to gain space on defender Quick to find coverage gap between linebackers and safeties Has the ability to stress safeties Won’t gear down when locating the football Hands catcher with soft, supportive mitts Catches away from his body Runs away from linebackers when he catches in stride Makes necessary adjustments as blocker in space Hustles to cut-off blocks on second and third levels
Weaknesses
  • Long, lean legs carry his frame
  • Not as natural knee bender at point of attack
  • His attack is too upright and lacks proper leverage
  • Needs better physicality at the top of the route in the league
  • Has to learn to reset his hands for better block sustain
  • Tasked with basic routes populated by speed outs
  • Won't shake many tackles after the catch.

OG B.J. Autry Jacksonville St. 6-5 365lbs.

Autry - #79

NFL Combine
Non-participant

NFL Comparison
Max Jean-Gilles
Overview
Massive, nimble guard prospect with unusual combination of girth and foot quickness. Autry hasn't been tested by NFL-level talent across from him, but his size, strength and athletic traits certainly check out. While he has the athleticism to potentially match against sub-package rushers, his instincts to recognize when he's being gamed aren't there yet. Autry is capable of fitting into gap and power run schemes and could become an eventual starter if he can control and manage his weigh.
Strengths
  • Enormous mountain of a man with broad upper body and huge legs
  • Pass protection aided by JUCO experience at tackle
  • Surprisingly light on his feet
  • Has ability to mirror and match athletic interior rushers
  • Fluid lateral slides maintain proper width
  • Able to engulf and smother
  • Adequate bend to create some lift into run engagements
  • Strong hands snatch and secure opponents
  • Capable in work-up blocks and short pulls in power.
Weaknesses
  • Limited primarily to JUCO and FCS competition
  • Steady weight gain is an issue and must be monitored
  • Weighed in at 365 pounds in the spring
  • Below-average recognition of delayed blitzes and twists
  • Won't generate as much push as expected on drive blocks
  • Lacks initial lateral quickness to prevent A-gap shots
  • Delays in fitting up down blocks and climbs to linebackers
  • Wide swallowing hands need to work inside the frame
