He's probably not a 2020 prospect but Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati is superb.
Great competitive history, leadership qualities. Smooth talking kid with a good background. Personality reminds me quite a bit of Andrew Luck's.
As a thrower he's definitely more of a touch specialist, which itself is kind of impressive considering his age and experience level. He throws corner routes with great placement. Uses the deep middle. But he also throws a nice fast ball, when he needs to. I've seen him throw with proper zip over the middle and to his left, at around 70 to 80 feet. I've seen him throwing close to ideal at around 100 feet. Most times when it's appropriate, he seems methodical in looking off the safety, making sure not to stare anyone down. It's no wonder he only threw 5 picks. He's definitely got some Brandon Silvers in him.
Good feet and the makings of a good pocket guy, but he also runs like the wind and gained 700+ yards on 130 carries, not counting sacks. Very calm player in the backfield. He keeps in motion, working up into the pocket. He's not stationary, but not in a hurry, either. He can learn to pick up the pace a little. Finds some tight windows when forced out of structure, rolling left or right. Defenses can't just play man and fall asleep on him on 3rd & 12 because he steals base too easily. He outruns front seven defenders, running with the DBs.
Big frame at 6'3" to 6'4". Big hands. Big feet. You absolutely cannot escape the feeling that you're looking at a kid that hasn't filled out yet, that will get a lot more physically mature, thicker, and stronger with age. He shot up from 5'10" to 6'4" over the course of like one or two years in high school. He's still growing into his frame.
I watched him dice up my South Florida Bulls and I didn't realize he'd done that to everyone else too (excepting perhaps a few tough defenses like UCF and Temple). Went from a 4-win team in 2017 to 11-2 this year with him under center for the Bearcats. Amazing.
The defense underwent a stupendous transformation, going from giving up 32 points a game to only 17 points. But the offense also went from scoring 21 points a game to 35 points per game and if I had to point to one thing that changed it really would be the QB play, moving the ball and putting less pressure on the defense.
They're definitely a running offense with Michael "Truck" Warren carrying the ball at tailback. They gained more yards on the ground than the air. But a big part of the running game is also Desmond Ridder on zone reads and RPOs. The passing game has more of a complementary look right now.
Strong player to look for in the future. You want to see him speed things up a little more. You want to see him mature and start to look a little more polished and comfortable. You want to see him physically mature, fill out, get stronger. You want to see if he can put the passing game on his shoulders and carry the team during some games. But you don't often get to see guys with this combination of frame, mobility, velocity, touch, and efficiency. So that's the sell, right now.
