49ers fans reaction to J.Martin

It costs more to trade for players during the season than in the offseason in the NFL. McKinnie is a better tackle than Jonathan Martin at this point. If Martin goes to Frisco and improves, then you can say it was the coaching staff. Ask me in 2 years. Right now? My guess is that Martin ends up a swing/backup tackle for the next 6-8 years. But I could be wrong.

either way you are taking a horrible left tackle.
At least Martin when right in the head can play an ok right tackle.
Mckinnie can only play left tackle and at this point in his career he cannot play it worth a crap

But would u take Mckinnie as your starting LT over Martin as your backup tackle that's the real question
McKinnie was bad at times and I don't want him starting, but Martin was one of the worst LT's I have ever seen.

They were equally bad , Martin is just more hated so now he has become worse. People were not ripping Martin after his rookie year but now he is the worst tackle in football history.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the verdict on Martin here during the off-season that he wasn't very good, but that we hoped he would get better? And correct me again if I'm wrong, but weren't he and Clabo both being killed on this board by about week 5 for their awful play?

I don't think it's revisionist history to say that Martin sucked. I think you may have actually joined me in begging for the team to trade for a tackle or do something with how bad it was.

Tread lightly on this forum, for you tread on Jonathan's dreams.

I'm just glad he is gone....I don't hate him...I just think he is the poster boy of this new generation of people and their percieved entitlements.
(P.S...It wouldn't break my heart to hear that he is cut during camp.)

Nobody was talking about how bad Martin was as a right tackle or should I say very few. During the season of course. I never begged for us to trade for a washed up Mckiinie. We should have traded for Monroe but for some reason we stuck with it.
Some like WV suggested that Martin was just as good as Long. Im not sure we lost a pick in the Mckinnie trade because I don't know the parameters.

He is not our problem anymore but for as bad as he was its scary that he was our top tackle going into last season. Dallas Thomas couldn't even get playing time with this crap line.

Gotta love the 9ers fans optimism.
Reminds me of when we got Chad Ocho-Cinco. People on this board, (including me, I'm guilty too), "He's out to prove people wrong! He's motivated now!" :rolleyes2:

I said one of the worst Left Tackles I have ever seen, he was better at RT but still bad

Well, I can speak only for myself, but I think my opinion was pretty common: I thought he would be OK after 2012 if he hit the weights and worked hard at improving himself. I was begging for the team to trade for McKinnie or someone... anyone... by week five of 2013.

I think you need to allow for the fact that a lot of people simply didn't want to give up on the guy after one year, especially when the narrative on him coming in was that he would need a year of NFL conditioning. I'll admit to being surprised that he was as bad as he was in 2013.

Hey, it's only fitting. Martin majored in the classics, I believe. I would hope he's familiar with the work of Thucydides:

"But, the bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it."

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar

The team obviously thought high of him. Started him every game as a rookie at RT and not because of some freak injury. he won the job at RT from day one. They then thought enough of him to have him take over for Long at LT. He was bad . Not sure why anyone wanted Mckinnie, he can only play one position and cannot play it very well. I think he will be retiring because I see no team wanting him. You never know though. Ireland should have called right down the street and made the offer for Monroe but he is not here to screw us up anymore

At least now we don't have to talk about the guy any longer so that's a huge plus. Well at least until he gets cut....

Draft status and lack of options gave him the RT position....he was awful.

From several reports, Philbin didn't want to go into the season with Martin at LT....

Does anyone else want to see Richie end up in Seattle?

I doubt seattle wants anymore drama but he would fit in with the rest of the roiders there
