A look ahead at the RBs we might target in the draft

Keaton Mitchell- East Carolina 5'9" 185lbs 4.35 40yrd

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS
*Mitchell keeps his pads low and consistently falls forward. Unlike most backs his size, *Mitchell has the lateral movement and stop-start ability to make defenders whiff. He has breakaway speed in the open field.
*He is elite as a receiver. He runs routes as well as most receivers and has natural hands, snatching the ball away from his body.
*He finishes runs well and flashes the ability to get small and squeeze through traffic.
*He’s equally dangerous in catch-and-run situations as he is taking the top off a defense
*His initial burst is excellent, and he’s capable of running out of a traditional setup or taking the ball lined up next to a quarterback in shotgun.
*Mitchell might be able to contribute as a runner with some consistency if used on outside zone runs, but he is more likely a complementary back who, if used properly

SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES
*Mitchell doesn’t have the ability as a run blocker or the violent run-after-catch ability.
Does not always show a burst in the box, anticipates contact. *Can get I turned easily on draws and inside isolation plays, shuffling and failing to restart momentum. Power in his cuts has been inconsistent. Tripped upon first contact.
The lack of size also pops up in pass protection, where *Mitchell often struggles to stand up blitzers.

Eric Gray - Oklahoma- 5'10" 210 lbs 4.44 40yrd

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS
*Gray runs with violence; he’s capable of thrashing through tacklers, and Gray has the natural balance to withstand contact.
*A compact runner, he has a rare blend of balance, agility and instincts.
He shows decent burst and straight-line speed to turn in big plays.
*He’s at his best working in space, showing the quickness and vision of a return specialist. His stop-start ability allows him to create initial separation.
*Bowling-ball runner between the tackles. Flashes a burst in and out of the hole. Lowers his pads and delivers a blow into the chest of defenders. Falls forward on nearly every run due to lean. Short build makes it difficult for defenders to find among linemen. Good acceleration and straight-line speed.
*He shows suddenness off the line of scrimmage and accelerates quickly, and his top-end speed is among the best in this draft.
*He often thrived in the screen game, transitioning upfield quickly and showing a knack for following his blocks. Gray has the size and strength to pass protect.

SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES
*As a receiver Gray really isn’t a guy who will create a lot of separation.
*He’s more of a cut blocker in pass protection as opposed to a guy who will stick his face in against the blitz, although that is a correctable flaw.

These three because…

1) Chase brown Illinois
2) Israel Ibinakanda Pitt
3) sleeper Jaleel McLaughlin Youngstown state..

I know someone who I trust said that we have had scouts watch all three of these players.

All three are great scheme guys, Brown is the most patient runner for this scheme, extends it out, patient patient, and bam explodes thru the home, tough tough runner, thick compact build

Jaleel is explosive with great speed and runs routes and has hands like a receiver…

Israel is just a good all round back.

I know there is enough talent where we can get a good enough back that has upside and can have a role as a rookie
Very impressed with Chase Brown....

Check out the Keaton Mitchell guy- looks like a Kamara clone

Can't believe I forgot about this one...

Deuce Vaugn - KSU 5'6" 176lbs 4.42 40yrd

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS
*Flashes initial burst and good lateral quickness to sidestep defenders or bounce runs outside with very good foot quickness. Displays very good feel as an inside and outside runner with above average vision to make sharp cuts - good patience· and footwork to pick through defenses.
*He’s decisive once Vaughn locates a hole and gets through quickly. His ability to accelerate and his good top-end speed allow him to outrun angles, and he has the quickness and lateral agility to make defenders miss in space.
*His competitiveness and knack for high-pointing the ball allow him to play bigger than his size.
Vaughn is elite as a receiver. *He runs routes as well as most receivers and has natural hands, snatching the ball away from his body.
*Has the feet and feel running between the tackles and in the open field. Vaughn has very good vision and patience to pick through defenses.
*Once he plants his foot, he’s explosive moving upfield, and his 0-to-60 acceleration is enough to catch defenses off-guard.

SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES
*He’s limited to cut blocks when it comes to blitz pickups.
*Vaughn doesn’t offer a ton of wiggle, and in college, Vaughn often sought out contact rather than avoiding it.
*Size is an obvious issue. he will never be able to do anything between the tackles, and he will likely be limited to a lot of gadget plays like fly sweeps.

My favorites are..

Gibbs - with Hill Waddle and Gibbs we would have 3 guys that can house it on any play. Hes lighting fast

Charbonnet- big, fast enough and has a good juke move. Also a great receiver.

Evans - world class juke move, strong and will make a very good NFL back.

Achane - a burner who can also house it on any play.

Edit* adding Keaton Mitchell to my favs list. Explosive as TNT
I feel like after these 4 there is a big drop off to the rest of the class.

Right not before the combine, my values:

Rd 1: Charbonnet - main attraction in CFB for 2 years, does everything right and with force. If he is there at 51 you run to the podium.
Rd 2: Bijon, Rodriguez, Tyjae, Achane (trained and ready)
Rd 3: Gibbs (tools), Roschon

Chase Brown is an excellent fit for Miami's scheme.

Achane's speed is in exciting but McDaniel may prefer a bigger back.

Tyjae Spears is another explosive back who could be had later.Deuce Vaugh(K ST) is another one.

Kendre Miller(TCU) and Roschon Johnson(Texas)are big backs Miami might like.

Kenny McIntosh from GA is a bit of a sleeper who seems to fit what Miami is looking for.

And Tavion Thomas from Utah is a huge, physical runner who could be had in R7.

I would not look at RB's until R3 at the earliest and would prefer to take on later than that, assuming Miami manages to trade down and pick up some later picks.

I think Kenny would be a great option in the 4th. He’s as good as anyone in this draft as a receiver outside of the backfield. Very slippery in space, his contact balance improved a ton this past year - he’s not gonna be a guy who can run over D linemen or linebackers when they are coming downhill but he has good moves and can slip an arm tackle if he sets up his defender. Great acceleration but lacking the top gear. Good size as well, doesn’t run as hard as you’d expect for a guy his size but he’s improved his physicality every year

Edit: just remembered we don’t have a 4th 🥴

Maybe I am not as clued in as some of the posters here and while I appreciate all the thought put into this topic.......

I just don't see us drafting a RB with our limited picks and obviously other higher needs. (Note, I love a really good running game).

duece is gonna help a team no matter where hes drafted so if you can get him in the fifth or later you’re getting great value.

I disagree, look at Griers track record. Takes a LT... doesn't matter if he's good or not he doesn't take another one. Takes a RG same thing.

Everyone thinks we're drafting a MLB. I got news for ya, we arnt, we took one high last year. Want a TE in the Draft, sorry we took Hunter Long, Grier ain't spending picks this year on these positions.

I can see a RB taken at some point as well as a corner and another Olinemen.

On top of all that reports are out there that we've been scouting RBs. I'd put money on us taking a RB.
