The Dolphins were among five teams who scouted controversial former Florida State quarterback Adrian McPherson during his impressive individual workout at Southeast High on Tuesday.

Dolphins college scout John Crea was among representatives from five teams who watched as McPherson put on an athletic display that drew comparisons to the likes of Michael Vick and John Elway.

Whether that's enough for McPherson to overcome charges of stealing and accusations of gambling as an FSU student is another matter.

However, McPherson showed off a sculpted 212-pound body as he ran a 40-yard dashes of 4.52 and 4.59 seconds, a short shuttle of 6.78 and an astounding 40 ½-inch vertical leap.

That led at least one NFL assistant coach to say that a comparison to Elway might not be out of realm.

''He's probably a better athlete in terms of escapability than John,'' said New Orleans quarterbacks coach Turk Schonert, who split time with Elway during Elway's freshman year at Stanford. ``And John could buy time, so there's no question we're talking about an outstanding athlete. John probably had a stronger arm, but [McPherson] throws it very hard and they're a lot alike. They both throw everything on a line.

``They don't have any feel on the short stuff yet.''

Aside from the Dolphins and New Orleans, Jacksonville, St. Louis and the New York Giants attended the session at McPherson's former high school, where he became the first athlete in state history to be named Mr. Football and Mr. Basketball as a senior.
This is the most exciting report ive heard about the Dolphins since i heard we were going to trade for Ricky a long time ago. I was be more than thrilled to see the Fins take McPherson in the 2nd (if we get one) or 3rd round. I see him becoming a rediculous player in the future. Hey, even if he cant handle playing quarterback, he can be a really good wide receiver w/ his skills.

Thoughts? Comments?

i don't think he could play WR. You cant just put a good athlete at WR, they have to know how to run route etc. I do think he would be a good QB and wouldn't mind if the Fins took him or Dan O in the 3rd

Bad news. We really dont need another player with serious character issues.
McPherson does not have character issues. He made a bad mistake when he was like 18 or 19. Everyone does that. He was kicked off the team before anyone new if he was guilty or not so i think that was a mistake.
Read the Sports Illustrated article about him and you'll change yer mind

He didn't show any character problems in the AFL. In fact, he could have entered the draft last year, but he wanted to show how much he has matured, so he finished out his contract.

McPherson has no character issues he made some mistakes but he has a very nice guy type personality.

this news is like 2 or 3 days old man

I read the SI article on him and it sounds like he has turned his life around...who hasn't made some mistakes when they are young? He is tall, fast has a good arm, and he did a nice job in the AFL...I think he would be worth a 2nd rounder if we can pick up a 2nd round pick.

He had 61td 5int in the AFL last year. That's pretty impressive numbers ay any level.

The guy who lead the league had 99 tds and again your talking about Arena league football. Joe Germanine & Clint Storner is in the top 5 QB this year for Arena football league.

His 61 td ranked 12th in the league.

McPherson dropped out of college has less than 2 years of college education..

Gambled on football..bet on this team... stole a blank check and wrote out $3500 in the name of his friend.

ehh ehh ehh ! AD never gambled on football.

I can't believe people can have multiple drugs and battery charges but everyone wants to give them another chance, yet this guy gambles on other sports (which isn't uncommon, how many people here complain when the spread isn't covered (damn patriots game)) This guy didn't kill anyone, he isn't into drugs, he bet on some sports, he was a college student who was short on cash...a very rare breed indeed. Cut the kid some slack.

I am 18 years old and can relate to what he did when he was a year older than me unlike some of you guys who are probably decades from those years. His character is definately not a concern if we pick him up. Did you watch the interview on NFL.com? He sounded very sincere to me and I think the kid DEFINATELY learned his lesson, he was working at a Golds Gym and had a reality check. The kid if he makes it good in the NFL will be making more money than he knows what to do with...and gambling....are you kidding? I gamble ALL THE TIME. Poker, Sports, etc. I am 18 years old. I play poker at underground casinos here in Idaho. You have to be joking if youre not going to take the kid because he bet on sports when he was 19 years old. All of you need to relax, youre too paranoid after the Ricky incident, yet alot of you wouldnt mind taking RICKY BACK?
