AFC EAST Offseason Grades by Scouts Inc.- Phins get the Worst Grade - " C- "

so you guys want to get it done with smoke and mirrors...to that i say good luck...how long do you think it will take before the opposition figures out just how much left ocho has in the tank...2-3 games maybe max...they'll know what he's got in no time...how bout fasano who i keep hearing about on here is gonna morph into some difference maker...the nfl already knows what he is...they haven't defended him any different since he came in the league its not gonna change now...hartline he of the 1 td catch per year average another guy the opposition is not scared of davon bess the slow slot wr that offers no explosive big play qualities the kind of wr that you dink and dunk all the way down the field with...like i said you better pray for some serious innovation with the play calling...the league knows what reggie bush is at this stage and the league knows it must pay attention to him so they will...

the myth of the b marshall double team...i can't wait to hear that one...b marsh was the focal point of our offense for the defense last year followed by reggie bush...the guys the opposition had to worry about/pay attention to most...

it's gonna take either an unknown quantity to rise up and make a massive leap or some serious innovation if we're gonna make hay with this returning offensive playmakers unit...

and bingit if you got something to say to me in the nba thread don't lurk...and don't wait til the end of the nfl season to tell me you told me so...stick around so we can see how far these guys we have brought back take us...please do

i'd start praying that charles clay is legit in pads and that one of these rooks really steps his game up...a lamar miller one of the wrs...something like that...something that actually puts fear in dcs heads...

If I responded to every ridiculous thing you said in the NBA thread, I would have no time to do anything else. I'll be around, but it will take a while before the Dolphins have 469 passing attempts. Neither of us will be able to say I told you so until then, so I don't need to say anything more on this matter until then.

I'll tell you why they can give this grade, because it isn't all about whether we got better...we did...just by replacing Sparano. However, we didn't get better than the other teams in our division did. Buffalo got MUCH better on defense (at least on paper...maybe they will turn out to be this year's Eagles of last year...but I don't think so.) The Pat's are clearly pissed about last years SB loss and go all out to make another run this year. The Jets...well...the didn't do much either. They could actually be helped by Tebow, not by his play, but by his presence...it could also backfire if the Jets are the bunch of sewer-scum we think they are and it could be a massive implosion. (Let's hope Scenario B plays out there....)

You're right, clearly we should fold the franchise.

You mentioned a big problem that getting rid of Marshall creates that people AREN'T talking about around here, and that's the respect that opposing defenses had to show him. Without a big play guy on the outside like BM, Bess can't get open over the middle as effectively and our runners are going to see a LOT more 8 even 9 man fronts. No way Reggie Bush would have run for 1000 yards last year if defenses could focus solely on stopping him. Our offense is MUCH more limited and one dimensional without Marshall, and not having him is going to make it a lot harder for us to run the ball and throw short.

ha ha that bingit guy...a lurker that talks smack...love it

anyways...i doubt you're gonna see a lot of 8 and 9 in the box cause our o is gonna want to spread the opposition out and that alone will create some natural running lanes for the backs and what not...but if teams aren't afraid of your playmakers at wr etc they will just sit on routes and sit on stuff underneath and bring the safeties up...which without someone to take heat off everyone else means that fasano or clay don't have a lot of room to work the seams and underneath...i mean it's gonna effect everyone...

any dc is gonna look at this team and already have the book on garrard and matt moore and know that neither one of those guys can win games by themselves or really hurt them and that the longer and more often you ask them to make plays with their arms the more likely that moore especially will make mistakes...they got the book on fasano sorry guys but they do they got the book on ocho they'll look at his work in the preseason and the opener and know what he's got left feet and quickness wise...hartline catches like 35 balls a year i'm sure ds aren't thinking this kids gonna morph into a guy who wins against top 2 corners anytime soon...charles clay if he starts making serious hay they'll focus on him and someone else has to step up...

where the hell is it??? bingit and some of these others want you to believe that hartline and ocho and bess and fasano will just be those guys by getting more opportunities...well i'm here to tell ya that's bs...plain and simple...

it comes down to what i keep saying...one of these unknown quantities stepping up...a tannehill a lamar miller a egnew a rookie wr which with the learning curve in this league at wr and the fact that we are gonna use these option routes these rooks heads are gonna be likely swimming...be deer in headlights...

It is all based on the fact we lose Marshall who was a large part of our offensive. They don't understand that lots of us were glad to see him go. The 2 picks were a bonus. He would have lasted about a week with our new coach.

You being glad to see a very productive player go doesn't mean we didn't lose talent.

Last year the Dolphins attempted 469 passes(good for 28th), 145 of those were thrown to Brandon Marshall. When 1 in 3 passes go to one guy, it's not a stretch to think the others will be getting more opportunities. Bess and Hartline's best year was 2009 and they will no doubt improve on last year.
I'm not saying we have anything close to a superstar at WR, but Brandon Marshall sure didn't perform like one either.

Yes, I can definitely ha ha a post from insomnia. Lol! Of course one of the unknowns will be a part of making up Marshall's numbers. I doubt it will be a huge chunk but someone is going to get more playing time. All I have been saying all along is that the Dolphins won't have any problems making up the 1200 yards and 6 TDs that they lost in Marshall. You can call it what you want. Your opinion doesn't hold a lot of water with me based on a lot of the other things you say. I don't need to bicker back and forth with you on this. I'll see you when the Dolphins have 469 passing attempts with at least 3,091 yards.

To add to that, the Dolphins had 469 pass attempts last year good for 3091 yards with Marshall. In 2008 the Dolphins had only 7 more pass attempts and had 562 more passing yards without Marshall. That was with Ginn, Bess and Camarillo as our top 3 WR.

fair enough...don't be a stranger...its not just the numbers with marshall which you guys don't seem to get...it's the effect not having someone like him will have on the others...and the opposition...but i'll let you see it for yourself...

philbin and sherman are gonna have to be gods with the gameplan for this o to be consistent...

I don't disagree withe the Dolphins ranking, my problem is with Patriots, can someone explain what they did to have a "good offseason" Gaffney?
Jets didn't have a better offseason that Dolphins.

I added this into my last post so you probably didn't see it. The Dolphins had 469 pass attempts last year good for 3091 yards with Marshall. In 2008 the Dolphins had only 7 more pass attempts and had 562 more passing yards without Marshall. That was with Ginn, Bess and Camarillo as our top 3 WR. If the Dolphins can have 562 more passing yards on only 7 more attempts with those guys in 08, I really believe that they won't have any problems matching the 2011 numbers with Philbin's offense and the guys we have. We shall see.

pats got brandon lloyd...and he's got more in the tank than ocho did when he got there...they got a poor mans jpp talent in chandler jones...and frankly as long as tom brady is healthy and up right anyones had a great offseason

i don't think i cared to be honest...in 2008 we had the softest schedule in maybe the history of the damn league...so those numbers in the grand scheme of things don't carry weight with me...and the only big passing plays we got pretty much came out of the wildcat

the offense itself though will help people look better than they probably are in some cases...or at least the numbers for them will look better...by more opportunity...but i doubt it's gonna add up to much

can make it up??? no...none of those guys are the level b marsh is...clay may surprise though...i can go that far...but make up the 1200 yards we'll be missing...it's gonna have to come from someplace else...

i don't think you guys understand how much pressure b marsh took off guys and that's not gonna be the case anymore...we better hope for some sick play calling and formations cause there's not a go to guy of the known quantities at least in the lot...who scares the opposition as a wr??? i mean like has the dc concerned...no one...

add in average qb play which is what you will get with moore or garrard and i don't know if this o will pass for 200 yards a game...we'll see...i can see a lot of 3 and outs in our future with these option routes and guys not being on the same page...

Be careful, the homers are about to be all over ya. I have to agree with most everything you said, while it is true we have a more open agressive offensive system, I really don't see this being a top 20 offense much less top 10. We might have a pretty solid OL if they don't try and force Martin into the lineup, and I am a little higher on the QBs than you, but a new OC with no WRs who can get open regularly and this is gonna be a painful season to watch. Add to it the up pace tempo and if we start getting a few 3 and outs our defense will be wore out by half time. I think 6 wins is being pretty optimisic. I do feel pretty good about our direction however, but Rome wasn't built in a day.
