I am not talking about our personnel people I am talking about the people in the NFL on other teams. The consensus among the personnel people of the NFL at the time was that Feeley was the best young prospect available.
though I seriously doubt those claims because I've never seen them in writing annointing him as the best young prospect, answer this.
Andy Reid and Brad Childress drafted Feeley in 2001 in the fifth round. They drafted him to be a backup to McNabb. They may have said nice things about AJ, but how often do comments made by other coaches turn into wins by the Miami Dolphins? Answer: NEVER!
People have to prove it out on the field, and if the can't, they sit on the bench.
I think the problem with a lot of these Feeley supporters is that they believe that because Rick gave up a first day pick, that AJ HAS to be the starter to make the trade acceptable. Well, Rick is no longer here, and it wouldn't have mattered if we gave up a first....if he's not good enough, he doesn't play.
Look at how many QBs were taken in the first few picks in 99. How many are out of the league? Face it, the bears, bengals, and browns were screwed, but they've moved on. They didn't just keep these guys on the roster just because they were high picks.
Trying to argue that Feeley should start because he didn't get much time last year, or that he's younger is futile. From now on in Sabanland, the best players will start, and if its Gus, then he'll start, if its AJ or Sage, ditto
