Alex Marvez: Don't count on Luck playing for 'train-wreck' Dolphins

If you're a parent who puts themselves in Oliver Luck's shoes, you might identify with this; if you have no children, as a fan, it might prove more elusive.

Your son has been tested out to be a gifted child, and about to start his developmental education. To that end you're in a certain school district so it appears you really don't have a choice where to send him, but in reality, you're a big shot in the community, have worked for the government and understand how to "work the system" so in fact you well might have a say in where your son gets to be educationally nurtured.

School M's principal is relatively new at the job, hasn't really run the school well and in fact has embarrassed himself and the school on more than one occasion. He has demonstrated that he's basically tone deaf when it comes to his students' parents concerns and demands. On top of that, his administrators making critical educational decisions have turned over several times, insulted some parents and have generally done a poor job borne out by sub-standard if not awful district test scores. The principal informs you that he is putting in a new regime, but unless you're aware of their past accomplishments as educators and assured that the principal won't interfere or meddle, just how confident are you entrusting your child's formative fertile mind to this environment?

On the other hand, if you manipulate the system one way or another, there's another school, "School I" with an older student whose mental capabilities was very similar to your son's and has been developed and nurtured to a point where he's one of the most outstanding older students in sight. Moreover, he is happy to take a special interest in and mentor your son. The principal comes from a long line of respected educators and has been in place in a stable environment for many years. His chief administrator is known far and wide as being among the most innovative and effective of his peers. You're gonna feel pretty secure in how they're gonna position your child for success, right?

Finally, there's another school "D" which is as spotty as the first one.. has had about as many highs and lows over the years and just about as many turnovers. However, unlike school A, the principal has been in place for some time and has proven himself to be both patient and supportive - sometimes almost to a fault. However, what's particularly attractive about them is the new administrator who now retired from competitive academics, is in the record books as one of the best educators ever, has a background much in common with your son's, as his dad's had with your own and he himself is anxious to mentor your sons educational development to hopefully reach the illustrious heights that his own scaled.

As a parent who knows all too well that how and where your gifted child launches his formal education is critical to his overall success, would you really care that public opinion goes against you or that you might need to forcefully rock the boat if your precious child's developmental future is at stake?

Luck has to look out for himself. He still has a year of eligibility left so he can afford to gamble if he doesn't like who owns the number 1 pick. And to be honest even if he does declare and tries to force a trade, but it doesn't work out; he could sit out a whole year and still be the number 1 pick without playing any football.

I would love to have Luck, but right now I just want the Dolphins to win a game. No one thought Aaron Rodgers was going to become the best QB in football when he fell to 24, so there is no reason to think that Landry Jones or Matt Barkley can't be better than Luck.

Who are the other 0-X and 1-X teams? Tell me which one of those teams he would want to play for?

Let's look at the SFL derby teams that have rumors swirling about moving to Los Angeles: Minnesota, St. Louis, Jacksonville. Do you want to go to a team that has stadium issues, revenue issues, and constant rumors that it might be moving back to a terrible football market? In addition, all three of those organizations are hugely dysfunctional and have coaches who will be lucky to survive into the next season.

How about Indy, where he'll have to ride the bench for the duration of his rookie contract if their current starting QB is healthy? And do you think Columbo is bad? Indy's offensive line stinks. Kerry Collins and Curtis Painter have been getting massacred.

Denver? They got Orton drama, Tebow drama. Elway is a clown GM with no experience, Fox is a coach who might just be bad enough to coach his team to the #1 draft pick 2 years in a row with 2 different teams, and they just traded away their best player in a blatant attempt to try to tank the season.

Arizona? Horrible attendance, crappy team that has never been relevant except for one year when Kurt Warner was there, and the worst owner in sports who isn't named Mike Brown.

Miami's a good destination for a young man with a lot of money. Bring Cowher in here to coach the team and I would bet anything he finds this the most appealing of all the aforementioned destinations. Or do you think he would rather go to Jacksonville?

There is really no reason why he would not play here. I can't see how anything comes into play until after the season. After the dust settles and if Miami has the #1 pick, A. Luck would be effn happy to come here.

Vaark makes a good point about his dad's infuence and like Manning advising his kids it will play a big part I'm sure.
But consider this. Though our reputation in recent years is tarished he would be coming to a proud francise with a long history of excellance. He could be the guy that makes us forget Marino. I'm streching it a bit but if the kid succeeds here he'll own the city and the stadeum WILL be full every game. Playing in this conference would be great for him. Lots of monday night games and the Jets and Pats twice a year. Brady cann't last forever and Sanchez is bad so soon he would rule the East.
I bet he would come without hesitation and with daddy's approval.

Furthermore, what 'great' organization would he hold out for that doesn't already have a great QB?

What's he going to do, demand a trade to the Patriots so he can sit behind Brady?

Said this in another Luck thread, but think about it:

Luck can do what he wants right now. His stock cant possibly go down, everyone has too much faith in him that he'll be fantastic.
If he wants to choose his team for better prospects in his early years as an NFL QB, he'll probably do it. The guy clearly isn't just doing it for the money, or he would've been gone last year

This thread is just a load of bull**** conspiracy ideas that will be a non issue come April

it's casual; trade his rights to San Fran for 2 #1's & 2 #2's.

SF is easily the best team in a terrible division. They are a legitimately very good team that gets 6 games against total garbage every year.

Their 1st round picks won't be worth that much.

Not too surprising. I can't imagine ANY college player, or free agent for that matter, ever wanting to bust their *** for a fickle, negative fan base like this one.

Because Jets fans never overreact about their team....EVERY team has fans who are frustrated and negative when things are bad! If they don't, then they aren't passionate fans!

Luck is going to whoever drafts him and gives him the millions and the fans will buy up his jersey. Whether it's Dolphins, Broncos, Cardinals, Jaguars, etc...

I'm sure people like Marvez thought Stafford wouldn't want to play for the Lions who went 0-16 and had never really been that great before it either.

If the Dolphins have the number 1 pick they have 4 months with a new coach and GM in place. If it is Cowher, Gruden or Fisher dialing up Oliver and he declines, then he never wanted to play in Miami. Oliver will be settling for Caldwell, Carroll or Fox which is not very appealing.

If Oliver pulled something like this I think it would be towards the Colts where he would sit behind Peyton. As for going to a contender, that won't happen because the contenders are settled at the QB position and are not going to give up 3 first rounders.

Let's drop some knowledge here:

I have seen NOTHING concrete that Luck would pull an Eli Manning. Everything I have seen is pure conjecture. It's not journalism, it's junior detective BS.

imo from the interview that i seen the other day on Luck, they asked him about playing for any perticular team and he said no i dont have any and would just like to get in the NFL .IT WAS SOMETHING ALONG THESE LINES, so imo i think the sports writers and exc.exc. is just putting words in Lucks mouth, and want the SFL to go away, and imo from my own standpoint and from my judgement ,HE DOSENT CARE WHO HE PLAYS FOR.and imo thats the mentality i like from a QB coming out of college.....:hump:

Lets not forget that whoever drafts Luck will be a contender in a short time.

If there's any media I hate more than the Disney drama of BSPN & SoapOperaCenter, it's FOX anything
.

Whatever. So I'm supposed to believe this kid Luck is a front runner who only wants to go play for a winner? I guess that's why he went to perennial football powerhouse Stanford...

No but he and his father will want to go to an organization that can & will build a team around him that will eventually win. What about the present Dolphins organization would lead you to believe they can & will do this ?

I see nothing....
