Alex Smith to visit Miami.

Miami should sign him and when SF dont land Manning they will have no QB. That would be a great way to get that ****er Harbaugh. I cant stand that **** sucker.

maybe this all means he knows peyton is choosing the 49ers and is mad and leaving the team?

they made huge promises to him, he did the work, improved, produced and at seasons end they said they WERE absolutely commited to him and their first order of biz was to get him a new contract. HAPPY JOY-JOY!!

and in comes peyton.

i am a BIG matt moore fan and really feel sorry for the kid. he has been the victim of bad situations with crumbling franchises, bad teams, numbers game, regime cleanouts. but, we have nothing behind him so we need a backup/competition to come in.

alex smith would be a GREAT choice. everyone thought [me included] we had seen all there was of him but he proved that WAY wrong with a real coach, and a solid offensive scheme. he now has big confidence to go with his nfl experiance. [not just 2 games].

pretty big signing i think, a very smart one IF we are serious and he really IS looking for his best deal.

Sign Alex Smith, and trade him back to the niners when Peyton signs with another team...haha!

I like the move from a bargaining position.
Gives us leverage with Flynn and if it does end up that the FO and coaches like Smith and we sign him it kind of puts the screws to SF and their coach.

I think it helps both sides...You already talked about the DOlphins side...

Alex Smith is trying to force the 49ers to do something...He is getting leverage too...

But if you piss of Flynn enough, he might not want to sign here and Smith goes back to the 49ers when they don't getting Manning...

Leaving us completely screwed.

you guys calm down...there is no way Philbin is banking his first career Head Coaching position on Alex freaking Smith......

yeah, he doesnt want to make the same mistake first time coach JIM HARBAUGH made.

we know how bad that turned out.

wow. some of these posts.......................

  • It's in both Alex Smith's and Dolphins' interests to meet. Maybe it becomes a marriage. It's certainly a negotiating tool for Smith to make the 49ers decide on Peyton Manning or get Seattle to the table, and for GM Jeff Ireland to use on Matt Flynn's agent to negotiate the price. Smith or Flynn is an interesting debate narrows to two sentences. Is Smith who he was for SF last year (17 TDs, 5 int) or the previous five yrs? Is Flynn who he was in two starts for GB or Kevin Kolb?

what makes smith garbage? his low interceptions? his number of comeback wins?

Yeah with Alex Smith I am sure we will have a top 2 defense to support and carry him when he fails to complete a 10 yard out like he did on the regular last year.

And we will MOST definitely have a workhorse like Frank Gore to lean on. I mean Reggie Bush is the epitome of a workhorse.

I would take Smith in heart-beat over Flynn. Here is a guy who immediately becomes your #1.

I like Alex Smith and I think he is improving. With solid coaching I think he can continue to win. HOWEVER, 17TD's? 17TD's??? I'd bet $1,000 that if Flynn started for us he'd top that easily in the WCO.

17TD's is Fiedler, Feely, Moore, Henne type numbers. So yes, without a stellar D, 17TD's a year is not 'franchise QB' level production. You have to be able to score in today's NFL.

you know, looking Alex Smith's career stats, the last 3 years he's gotten better. Heck even when he was in his first few years, he was improving before that collarbone injury that required 2 surgeries because the doctor messed up.

Smith looked decent in Harbaugh's version of the West Coast Offense last year, and honestly probably could have had even better stats if A)Harbaugh wasn't a power running coach and B)His WRs were more consistent/big play guys (there is a reason they signed Randy Moss and Mario Manningham)

Now Smith probably wouldn't be a franchise changer, but he'd be a good guy to hold the fort down.
