Anybody know how our offense was under Gailey?

Gailey left after 2001 to take the head coach job at Georgia Tech.

Shotty has tons more talent with the Jets (better qb, oline, wrs) than Gailey had with the Fins and yet Gailey ran a more productive offense

I dont care how "boring" our offense was... we won games with garbage players and we scored a lotta tds... its a huge step in the right direction from where were at 2day, wen we averaged 15 pts a game

Gailey was a freaking master of getting the job done. He got Miami to the playoffs two years out of two with Jay Fiedler and Lamar Smith. I have a ton of respect for what he did as OC here.

Amen. and now with a better offense, our offense has the ability to thrive under his control

Well, Gailey will be going to either Pittsburgh or Miami in my opinion. College coaches need to quickly put a stop to NFL rumors when they happen because it screws with recruiting. That fact that Gailey hasn't speaks volumes to me.

Up here in Pittsburgh, it's looking like a Gailey has a slight edge over Grimm (why hasn't this guy gotten any looks?) due to Cowher's latest vote of confidence. An interesting wild card in the whole equation is Marvin Lewis, who of course is under contract with the Bengals, but has a specific out if the Pittsburgh job becomes open.

For what it's worth, I think Gailey goes to Pittsburgh.

yep, as keith said, gailey is good at polishing turds. he adjusts to his talent- he rode smith into the ground in his cindarella year of '00, then when smith's slipper came off, he went to a lot of 3 & 4 wr sets and used rollouts and bootlegs to take advantage of fiedler's mobility and cut down half of the field for him. both plans worked, dude can coach, and did well when he was here.

Yup. "The Chin" supposedly recommended Gailey to the Pitt front office, and I'd imagine he'd know how good of a coach he is.

NFL.com's stats don't go back to 2000, but in 2001, Miami was 8th in the league in terms of points scored... with a horrific offense led by one Jay Fiedler. It was also the last time we made the playoffs.

Hiring Gailey would definitely give our offense a boost. He's one of the only Dolphins coordinators who's proven he knows how to use Chambers, for example.

And honestly, if the three finalists are Jim Mora, Jr., Chan Gailey, and Brian Schottenheimer, then Gailey is the best of those three. Mora may be good, but he's a defensive specialist, and I think we've had enough of those for a while. Schottenheimer is an extremely creative offensive mind, but he probably doesn't have enough experience to be given both head coach and GM duties. Gailey's been here before, he's got NFL head coaching experience, and he knows how to run an offense.

Unless the reports about the finalists are wrong, and unless Wayne throws us a curveball, it looks like Chan Gailey is the next head coach of your Miami Dolphins.

In case you haven't heard, Wayne H. seems to have decided to not give the next HC the power over the GM like Satan had. Seems Mueller is going to be given full authority, a huge shift in our philosophy. Agree with you on Gailey, but don't rule out B. Schotty for your reasons highlighted, they are incorrect apparently.

If I had my choice I would take Norv Turner over Gailey!

you have to be kidding me. compare gailey's 2 seasons w/ miami to norv's (and norv had better talent btw). gailey blows him out of the water.

Here's an even bigger shocker: Compare Gailey's '98 offensive numbers in Dallas with that of Turner's heyday calling plays there in '92 and '93. Gailey's team, with the skill position guys being 5-6 years older and the offensive line sporting the likes of Clay Shiver and Everett McIver as starters, held up quite well when compared to the Cowboys' SB years offensive numbers.

People complain that the offense under Gailey was boring and ineffective....but we managed to go 11-5 with the likes of Jay Fielder and Lamar Smith starting for us....and Chambers's very solid rookie season was under Gailey I'm pretty sure. I'd be happy with him as our HC, especially now that Wisenhunt is gone.
