Not sure if this really matters but if what the Herald says is true kind of makes me laugh. Why would the cap specialist fire the head trainer who is in Indy with the GM and HC and not the GM or HC? Someday maybe this will all go away. For now, it just continues to pile on.

Maybe it's not a big deal at all but still seems odd. Don't know too many teams who's cap person has that kind of job description. Maybe I'm wrong.

Go look up her job title.

so it seems that all three were present for the firing. love multiple reports on the same subject.

He was summoned before coach Joe Philbin, Executive Vice President of Football Administration Dawn Aponte and General Manager Dennis Hickey and fired. No discussion. No explanation.
For the rest of the article: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-dave-hyde-0221-20140220,0,1638297.column .

It's too bad fans get all bent out of shape over things they read in shotty reports...truth is, nobody knows whats really happening including these hacks covering the stories.

Hyde5: Five misconceptions about Dawn Aponte

1. To say she is a salary-cap-ologist minimizes her role. Yes, she is responsible for the salary cap, though she has an assistant helping in that. But the salary cap is a small part of her job - maybe as low as 20 percent, a source said. Simply put, her role is to allow the coach and general manger to concentrate on winning - to deal with "supplementary and support functions," as I was told. This year, for instance, the brunt of her time in the second half of the season was spent organizing the Dolphins' internal dealings in the Ted Wells' investigation of the Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito affair. She deals with facility and league issues. This isn't exactly new to the Dolphins. Senior vice-president Bryan Wiedmeier performed a similar role for years.

Aponte calls the shots. She is the defacto Czar of the Miami Dolphins. Philbin and Hickey are basically her underlings.

Could it be any more obvious? I mean, she writes speeches for Philbin. It's a Bush/Cheney dynamic.

Shes the "VP of football ADMINISTRATION". Regardless if its right or wrong she can fire whoever she wants (with Ross's approval of course).

Why would it not be Aponte that fires the trainer? She is the Executive Vice President of Football Administration. Trainers and medical staff fall under admin.

The word came from Ross. Who cares who fired him. I want Hickey spending time on the draft and free agency.

I don't really care if Philbin pantsed O'Neill after he was fired, it is in the past. Time to move on.

how do you stay so positive after this team has s#@t on us for the last 14 years?

Agree with you JC on where the word came from...posted I thought so yesterday as well, which is the only plausible explanation I can come up wuth as to why it happened at the apparently strange time that it did (while he was already flown out to Indy etc.).

I have to agree that the timing is strange and I can't even begin to figure out why it happened that way. I would like to know.

Heres to hoping O'Niell sues the organization (which would be for millions and millions) and in turn Ross fires Aponte.

There is no way in hell Aponte did this without word from above.
