Are the Miami Dolphins a few pieces short or a couple of years?

That horse was beaten to death, picked apart by scavengers, left to rot in the sun, and the carcass has since disintegrated into dust.

Any doubters now simply have poor judgement.

Funny how much the sentiment has changed after week 5 when we had the thread "any Tannehill supporters left?" Should Dalton or Cousins have doubters or would that be poor judgement also?

Three lbers, a guard or two and one OT.

If we can get juwan James off the field by getting a skilled LG, kick tunsil out to LT and put Albert at RT and get pouncey back I think the offensive is good. Only missing a back up qb in case rt17 goes down because we saw how horrible Moore is.

Defense needs two outside lbers and depth. Secondary should be better, jones back Howard healthy with lippet getting more time.
Fill just a couple of those holes and staying healthy puts us in a good spot.

The easy answer is we are close! Year 2 under the same head coach and consistent offense + defense alone will make us better! It's remarkable the success we saw this year alone .....

We are only a few pieces away, G, DE, LB (MLB/OLB) and CB (slot) are our needs ... this 'can' be done in 1 off season ... albeit, you have to be really good + lucky .... maybe that is our 'new' trend!! We can get by with our current group of CBs if the rest gets fixed ... so 4 real needs, we are close!

We are just a mere Half a d, 2 guards, a te and a pile of depth short.

I think fixing the lber pos is most important because what we have is so bad. Any good team will kill us, see Ravens game. When the other offense is that much better than our D is hurts the offense because we have to come away from our balance. A majority of our lbers are not NFL level players.

If Miami's offense can do a Atlanta Falcons turnaround then Miami can be in contention next year.

We probably won't have Stills back. We'll be trying to establish a deep threat with most likely a new roster addition and with a QB struggled for years to throw that with consistency. Parker won't get the same looks with Stills. Recipe for disaster if you ask me.

The line needs to be retooled or Ajayi wont have the same success.

Signed the wrong free agent TE. This guy Cook would be perfect. He is a free agent again this year but the game he just had probably means he will be back in Green Bay.

He actually never struggled with that throw, he only struggled to throw it to Mike Wallace.

That statement is as awful as the rapper in your avatar.

First two rounds should be LB and S and best player available after that. Still think we're 3 years from uprooting Brady and Belichik

Looking at these teams and knowing who's in charge of personnel, no way are the Dolphins a few pieces short. It will take a miracle to become one of these top franchises you see every year deep in the playoffs. We are in this constant pattern of having a few good pieces and needing to add more, and the good pieces we do have escape into FA (Miller, Matthews, OV) or they don't play as well (Albert, James, Jenkins) and we end up needing a lot more.

This pattern is avoided if you find top shelf players that propel your team into being competitive every game, otherwise you end up like the Dolphins vs over .500 teams (1-5) and someone's bye in the first round

A few piece short to build a legit playoff contender, a few years short to build the legit depth of overcome injuries and win in the playoffs.

I had to grin about the worst to first statement about the Cowboys. Dallas has been carefully building the O-Line with Rd 1 picks for the last 5 years. They chosen to exist with Chokamomo mistakes while they build the rest of the team.

It is nearly impossible to tell at this point because we really do not know which of our FA we will be able to retain. We do know that every players on the team was impacted by two new schemes. This degraded our potential for the first 8 games. We should not pay that penalty next year.

There are so many young players that have an opportunity to improve. Young player improvement is the least predictable part of an evaluation. If Howard and Lippett improve in coverage and improve their edge support, then the defense will be better. If IAQ and Jones are healthy the entire year, then we will have a better defensive year. If Tunsil is dominant from beginning to end, then we should get better.

We will know more by the start of free agency.

Defense doesn't take nearly as long as the offensive side of the ball for implementing a new system.

Personnel acquisitions are one thing, install is much easier.

Crowd teams don't exit upward -- and stay there -- without major talent influx. Scheme is irrelevant. You have to be great somewhere, notably at quarterback or defense. We aren't great anywhere. No likelihood of being great at quarterback as long as Tannehill is here. That means we have to take the bigger longshot route of forging a great defense, something that requires one extraordinary decision after another, and all before they deserve to break the bank salary wise.

The definition of poor judgment is calling the head coach a failure after 5 games, and insisting he should be fired, then completely reversing course within two months. Those are the guys who get eaten for lunch in Las Vegas, or anywhere where applicable logic is tested.
