I have a little trouble with so many that hate on the 'stop gap' solution... I think that when a team goes 1-15 it has demonstrated needs all over the field, in the FO and on both sides of the ball. WE WERE A BAD FOOTBALL TEAM. This does not get fixed overnight and throwing Henne to the wolves with a young offensive line learning their positions and a likewise new receiving corps is simply not the answer... Whether or not you think Beck can play is not the point.. I don't know anyone who would argue that putting him in there last year was a good idea... You talk about making mistakes with aging veteran QB's what about the mistakes we made with a young one? Chad Pennington may not be the sexy QB with the rocket arm everyone wants but he can play, he is fundamentally sound, makes few mistakes and is a leader... Maybe you guys don't like the person but the methodology behind it is sound.

In my opinion neither CHAD nor McCOWN are the future nor do I think either will lead us to a SUPER BOWL which is what every DOLFAN craves. Figure out who the future is whether its HENNE, BECK or someone else and let them play and get experience. This year is not about winning its about rebuilding into a winner....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO way do i want Pennington in a phins uni !!!!!!!

I was just watching the beggining of the NFl network replay of the Browns and Jets and before the game they were talking about the whole Brett Favre thing and also where Chad Pennington stands.

An Interesting fact was that Chad Pennington is 33-37 as a STARTER for the jets. It was scary to see how all his stats were almost identical to Jay Feidler's stats.

check out his career stats here http://www.nfl.com/players/chadpennington/careerstats?id=PEN375096

Chad was 32-29 as a starter for us and 31-22 heading into last year.

BS!!!!! Its about BOTH.

Why can some of you not understand that rebuilding dosent mean that you cant win in the process???

Winning and rebuilding arent mutally exclusive things.

We have the QB in place for the future....Chad Henne. Well right now if he cant win us games we need a QB to play that CAN! It certainly isnt Beck and it isnt looking like McCown is that guy either. If Pennington gives us a better chance to win, and I believe he does.....BRING HIM IN!!

A young team has to LEARN TO WIN anyway. You dont do that by losing. Winning takes practice. You have to win some games to learn how to do it consistantly

All losing does is demoralize the team. It breeds frustration and in no way does that equate to success down the line. Get a clue people.

Kind of an odd poll... I think most people would agree that we sign him only if we bring him in to try out and he's clearly better than our other 3 options.

If he shows us something, we'd be stupid NOT to sign him...
If he breaks a leg or is worse than our other 3 options, there's no point in signing him.

After careful consideration, I have to vote AGAINST it. I realize he's likely better than McCown but I think the skill level he possesses over McCown is offset by the lack of synergy between Pennington's STYLE and the Miami power running game. This would be different if it were Cam Cameron's offense, absolutely. However, this was set up to be a ground and pound offense with a power running game led by Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. We have tight line splits, a guy in Ernest Wilford we brought over in part because he's a great blocker, our starting TE has been mostly a blocking specialist in his career, our high draft pick left tackle is primarily a run blocker at this stage, the guy winning our RG battle is noted for his straight ahead strength, and Vernon Carey is a powerful right tackle.

This is not anything resembling a finesse or sophisticated, horizontal passing offense. This is bloody, it's raw, it's straight ahead running married with vertical passing to one of the fastest deep threats in the league.

Kellen Clemens was not better than Chad Pennington. And, he's not better than him right now. But, he was still the best quarterback for that offense because his style best fit with the renewed commitment to in-line running and blocking that the Jets made when they paid Alan Faneca and Damien Woody big dollars to come in.

Notice the Packers, for as awkward as that situation was, did whatever was necessary to ensure that Brett Favre did NOT play within the division. What about the Jets and Pennington? Nada. Released within hours, and they don't seem to care a lick if he goes to Miami.

That tells you something.

Yea, this post tells me something alright. For one, it tells me the Jets are morons. And two it tells me......oh, nevermind.

cant beleive such a high number of you are against. This guy is a great QB. he will win us games. He HAS won us games already. who you want in BECK the Fumble Master?

Penn will do us proud this season, and if he gets hurt. Henne will step to the plate and deliver a better performance that Beck. End of.

wake up smell the coffee guys. Penn beat us 7 times out of 8 with the Jets.

at least the Big tuna has some sence and wont listen to the 197 odd against signing him. damn.

I think the ones that are against it will change there minds. And don't bring up his record as a starter for the jets. They are the worst team in the NFL record wise since the merger. Like somebody's sig says, they have never even made it to the super bowl.
