Armando: Dolphins have $39.5M in cap space

Armando is not Omar, he may be arrogant, he may have ridiculous opinions at times, but his info is more times then not pretty spot on.

Oh I know he's not Omar and for that alone I will read his stories... but nobody in the South Florida media are considered plugged in to real sources or are known to be a source of great info.

If we really have that much, Miami can really build a decent team with decent depth rather than having glaring holes with 3rd string guys being forced to play. As long as a ton of that money doesn't go to 1 guy. If they keep doing what they are doing, they will get better even if the people they sign who don't wow anyone. I'd rather have a bunch of decent to average starters who do their job than 1 monster guy who eats up all the cap. And then we build through the draft as well.

If that IS correct, how much of that will have to go to raises next season? (ie, Mario Williams cap hit going up by quite a bit in year 2, if I recall seeing that correctly)

What does that mean?

He doesn't know. It's just another easy chance to bash the front office.

...and zero starting guards. Well done, FO.

Hmmm.

I mean really? What's the date, has the the FA period ended, has the draft happened?

Yeah I'm thinking so to. Something doesn't make sense here.

12 Mil for OV...gone
9 Mil for Grimes...gone
1.5 mil for Cameron..restructured
Suh was restructured for a few million of 2016 cap
5mil+ for Jennings..gone

Williams had a really low cap hit this year
Alonso was under 1mill

we had 6-8mil in carry over

Thats just off the top of my head from reading twitter feeds. The cap room is there.

What high priced players we have?

RT
Suh
Pouncey
Albert
Jones
Wake
Williams

The rest are bargains no? Maybe it is correct

Overspending for average talent is why Miami hasn't won in awhile.

Boone and Brooks are good, not elite money good.

Gotta spend some of that money. Of the players left in free agency, we will be overspending on on below average talent.

The problem of free agency is you always overpay for average talent.

And grossly overpay for top talent.

That's why the DRAFT is important. I'm really excited to see what Grier does here.

No reason Miami couldn't have re-signed Miller or signed Boone/Brooks/Allen/Sweezy. Those guys may not be "great," but think of the improvement over Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner.

OTC shows the current contract amount for the Dolphins at $143,555,114 **

http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/miami-dolphins

Miami Dolphins salary cap for 2016 is $166,767,319 ($155.27M + carryover from perious year). This leaves a balance of $23,212,205.

** This does include Mario Williams and Quddus but they haven't updated for Maxwell, Alonso and Young. It also doesn't seem to show Jordan Cameron's revised contract which was supposed to add $1.5M back into the cap.

According to Sportrac, Maxwell's cap hit is $8.5M (I guess new numbers aren't available yet).

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/miami-dolphins/byron-maxwell/

Kiko Alonso's 2016 number is $941,418. Sam Young was signed for a reported $910,000.

That would then leave $14,360,787 which you also have to sign your draft picks with (about $6M).

So unless anyone has any better numbers for this, it doesn't appear that the Dolphins have that much cap space.

Over the Cap is behind Spotrac right now. For instance OTC hasn't calculated ini Cameron's or Misi's savings yet. We have around $22 mil not including Maxwells restructure.

I wouldn't have paid Miller what he got on the open market.

It's pretty clear that this off-season we aren't going to be the ones making it rain.

It doesn't look like we're chasing any top tier FA talent this year.
